Law of the devil chapter 39

Chapter 39 “Blessing of God”

He Shoot!

He Scores!!!

Inter Milan leads AC Milan by 2-1!

Great Grosso is truly amazing, he have succeeded the glorious tradition of Italian football without fault! Look at him go! Facchetti, Maldini is wild! He’s practically possessed in how fast he moves, truly inhuman!

“What a mess…” Du Wei frowns as he watched the TV: “What is wrong with this thing, how am I suppose to watch the World Cup if the pictures won’t show up on the box?”

Crawling up to the television, he attempts to smack it back to working order to no avail. Stressed by the piece of crap before him, Du Wei instinctively reaches for the table to get a bud for some relief.

So good…. I haven’t smoked like this for so long. There’s just no cigarettes in the Roland Empire…..

Huh? What am I talking about? Roland Empire?

He became confused by the conflicting words in his mind… then with a sudden bang, the memories came rushing back to him while the surroundings started to distort. From slow to fast, it didn’t take long for him to lose himself to the vortex….

Damn it! My Milan Derby game…. Let me at least finish watching ittttt~

Bang!

The noise was like a thunderbolt, constantly ringing beside the ears until his brain screams in agony due to the stinging headache.

Painful! So Painful!!

“Ouuuhhh…” Unable to resist the hammering, he moans only to be alarmed by how wet his hair was.

What?

Shooting his eyes awake, any form of drowsiness and left him whole by this point.

No living room, no sofa, no TV, no Milan Derby, so it was all a dream….

Cold and wet, Du Wei was a mess lying there on the raft. He thought he had experienced the worst of the worst in terms of severe migraines back in his previous life, but this one trumped them all.

As he massaged his temple to sooth some of that pain, his fingers abruptly noticed something odd – it was a lump in the middle of his forehead!

Gently brushing aside the hair, his fingers can definitely feel the small bump….

Wait, that’s no bump at all, its a horn!!!

Sighing at the situation, Du Wei then recalls his deal with Chris and him.

As I thought…. A horn….. Ha-Ha, now I have a horn on my head!

Hard and cold, it was as if the object was perfectly conjoined to his skin and bone, nothing of the sort expected of something recently transplanted from merely a day ago.

“Hmm, I wonder what sort of  material Chris used for this thing…. it doesn’t look like a bone at all…” He repeatedly touches the horn to feel its texture.

Fortunately the thing wasn’t big by any means, only one-third of a thumb. If he wants to hide it from prying eyes, it wouldn’t be difficult at all.

Enough of his horn. After the brief minute of fascination, Du Wei then focuses back to the most important factor at hand – their surroundings!

It’s a blessing that the sea was calm at the moment, nothing too turbulent to raise his worry. Even so, the fact that there’s nothing but open ocean didn’t bold well with the circumstances at hand.

As for the raft that he was on, it was the very same one he made back on the island. Even the roughly made sail was one and the same!

Didn’t the raft get wrecked back when we sank? Chris’s power sure is amazing to have recovered it so perfectly!

….. And the girls?!

Fortunately Du Wei didn’t need to look far. Glancing to the side, his eyes quickly found the girls asleep hugging each other like proper sisters.

Likely disturbed by the movement made by him, the girls started to quiver in their eyes. Not wanting his secret to be discovered, Du Wei swiftly looked for something to cover the thing, but with what? In his frantic state, the only thing he can think of was some sort of hat.

Now that’s when it dawned on him. Ripping a part of his shirt, he promptly made a bandana for his head.

“Uh… I… how long did I sleep…..” Looking up at the boy after opening those eyes, the first to come to was Vivian.

“Not long,” Du Wei smiled, answering her question with comforting relief only to be startled by a outgoing cry of panic.

“Ah!! The waves! The waves! The storm?” This was Joanna who was screaming like a lunatic.

Blinking at the sight, Du Wei couldn’t hold it in at this point. Breaking out into a laughing fit, “What storm, what wave?”

Confused still due to just waking up, the ice beauty answers without thinking: “I remember there was a huge wave, a storm, and then… our boat sank!”

Sighing at that clueless face, Du Wei could only reach out to check Joanna’s forehead: “Do you have a fever?” He points to their surroundings, “You see, are we not on a raft? Jeez, you must be so tired that you had nightmare.”

Then it was Vivian who cuts in next: “I-I-I also saw a storm in my dream… and our raft, it sa-sank….”

Both girls exchanged a look, their eyes doubtful and confused on what to believe.

This was good news for Du Wei. Making a sigh of relief, he’s happy that Chris didn’t lie to him, They don’t remember anything at all like he said.

Springing up from the spot, Joanna was wrinkling her forehead as she fussed over the issue: “So there really wasn’t any storm…? But my dream was so real like its-its…..”

While Joanna continued trying to recall – a useless effort – Vivian on the other hand was easier to deceive. Blinking those big innocent eyes, she had pretty much accepted the boy’s word as the truth.

“Ummm…” Coughing guiltily, Du Wei attempts to change the subject before anything unwanted occurs: “I think both of you must be tired still. But since we’re on the topic about a dream, I also dreamt about you two.”

“What?” The girls gasped, their mouths wide open in unison.

“I had a dream where I was in a big comfortable bed inside my castle, and there, both of you were lying there beside me. One in each hand, I was…” To put emphasis on his story, Du Wei didn’t forget to place his hands on both of their shoulders.

Vivian would of course blush a crimson red due to her shy nature. However, Joanna on the other hand wasn’t so friendly. She was definitely blushing too, but not out of embarrassment, but rather extreme anger!

Wack!!

Smacking that dirty hand away from herself, the ice beauty didn’t forget to follow up with a heavy kick to vent her frustration.

Making a bitter smile over nearly being knocked overboard, Du Wei can only say he’s deserved it: “It was just a dream, why are you so angry?”

“Shut up! You don’t need to tell us about your dream,” the icy girl was still blushing hard as she peered around her surroundings. Suddenly, she exclaimed like something amazing just occurred: “I… We… escaped? We left he island!”

Of the three cheering folks here in the wide open sea, only the boy was feigning his excitement. Donning a soft smile, Du Wei makes the first useful suggestion: “Why don’t the both of you try your magic?”

Both sorceresses naturally wouldn’t deny such an idea. Issue was, it appears there’s some problems still.

When Vivian attempted to accelerate their speed by pushing the sail with a gust, what came of her spell was but a gentle breeze, hardly capable of propelling them forward. As for the impatient Joanna, she was even more direct and simply took flight on her own. Unfortunately for the haughty lass, that body didn’t get very far before plummeting down into the sea, thus forcing Du Wei to dive in soon after in rescue.

In light of this effort, the girl still ended up drowning somewhat due to the sea water she forged upon impact. This meant she was stuck vomiting hard for the next little while before her body returns to normal.

“Well then, it seems both of your magic reserve isn’t quite fully restored yet. Likely it’s just a little bit better than when we were on the island.” Du Wei really wanted to laugh at the two, but against Joanna’s glaring stare that can kill, he holds it in for fear of his life.

“For example, Joanna…. when you were on the island, the highest you can fly is no more than ten meters into the air, but now, you can fly as high as twenty!”

“You! Are you making fun of me! Humph…..” Before she could finish the last part of her sentence, another vomiting urge had forced her to duck to the side again for second round of puking.

Still smiling, Du Wei narrows his eyes to get serious: “From what I can see, it will likely be some time before the effects of the magic suppression completely dispels. We’ve only just left the island so maybe a day or two at most.”

“You… How do you know that! Humph!” Joanna’s voice was cold as cold as her personality.

“I made a guess,” he shrugged.

In truth, it was Chris who told him this.

Two days wouldn’t be difficult to endure, the only issue was a possible storm hitting them. Then there’s the matter of sustenance, they will have to go hungry for two full days….

They could’ve still relied on the roots of the plans on the island, but here on the raft, there’s nothing. Even counting the little rations they had on hand, it’s not nearly enough to last a single day, let alone two.

And that’s exactly what occurred after sunset, they are out of food…..

They are young growing children, it’s only natural that their appetites would be big. To have endured things until now, it’s already quite the feat, meaning their limits has been reached.

Just as all things are at their worse, Du Wei couldn’t help but to start eyeing Vivian’s waist, or be exact, the small little cage and the small little occupant inside!

That may be a magic beast of extreme value, but under these conditions, anything goes if it can provide some sustenance. It didn’t help either when it was so fat and chubby, the perfect shape of a roast beef.

As for Vivian, she knew Du Wei well enough by this point to see what the boy was thinking. Sadly for her, she can only cuddle up with her precious pet like frightened little rabbits in one corner, praying the boy wouldn’t try anything rash.

Oh almighty Goddess of Light…. please bless poor little Vivian and my little friend here….

Then it came, for the first time ever since her constant praying over the past few days, it’s been answered this very evening with the light flickering over in the distance! It was a boat, Du Wei can discern that much with his eyes.

As if suddenly reinvigorated with energy, the girls were screaming and cheering for the vessel to notice them. However, the boy with them wasn’t so excited, he was frightfully calm while staring over the water. With good reason too because they soon got a better look of the ship.

Though slightly worn by age and use, the vessel was very much sailable. What did startle Du Wei though was the flag hanging off of the sailing pole – it’s black with a skull and two crossing swords underneath it!

The Jolly Roger? Making a grinning smirk, Du Wei was oddly pleased there, It seems the gods haven’t forsaken me yet, sending me this wonderful pirate ship!
