Chapter 8 “Instant Incantation”
“Oh right, how silly of me.” Nodding in realization, Du Wei lets out a humorous laugh, “Then find a room and let her take it off herself.”
“Blasted kid, if you dare touch me then I’ll make you…” the girl cursed.
Walking over with a stern face, Du Wei graciously pinched her face, “I’ve touched you now, what are you going to do to me?”
All of the adventurers were tied up by this point, but that’s not going to stop Du Wei from being surrpised by the manner in which the bulky guy was being bound. A huge lock of chains, that’s overkill by most standards, yet it seems fitting in this case…. As for the haughty girl with the slender long legs, she was knocked unconscious afterwards then threw into the private room prepared for Du Wei.
If the young master held an interest in the girl then as his knights, well, there’s no reason not to lend a hand when the opportunity arises.
Ignoring the dirty thoughts of his underlings, Du Wei raises his spirit to interrogate the magician instead.
Stripped of his grey robe that’s been worn by the wheather,
the ordinary looking mage had nothing left to defy his captor by this point. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop the ordinary mage from threatening the little guy: “How can you treat a magician like this, aren’t you afraid of offending the Magic Union?”
Not to be intimidated, Du Wei answered the threat with a slap across the face. This instantly shuts the mage up, but at the same time it also caused his hand to sting.
Seems my body is still too weak…

“If you answer a few questions of mine then I can consider releasing you.” Taking a seat across the man, “You were casting fireballs without showing any form of spell chanting, did you master the art of instant incantation?”
This was what Du Wei’s most interested in about. Everything aside, it’s widely believed that users of magic are required to perform a chant when performing a spell. Of course, there are always exceptions to everything. The first being magical scrolls enchanted by a mage. These are very pricy for a merchandise, but it does allow the user to cast the spell imbued inside the parchment to come unhinged at no time delay. The second being a profound master of the mystical arts who spent a lifetime mastering their profession. These individuals are said to be of only fable legend, the most common being a grand mage able to shorten the length of their spell chant.
Therefore, Du Wei could be almost certain this lowly level one mage was faking his ability to instant transmute fireballs into existence. If he had to guess, the guy was using some kind of trickery to replace the needed catalyst created by the words when creating a spell. Otherwise, how else was he supposed to explain the guy’s current state of being tied up and pounded into a pulp?
And sure enough, the mage’s expression promptly turned horrified and bleak at the boy’s question. Shifting his gaze away, the man refuses to talk adn giving himself away like a readable piece of paper.
It’s obvious Du Wei was onto something important here and they had plenty of time to work things out.
To begin his examination, he started with the guy’s bodily possessions: a regular robe and an enchanted crest from the Magic Union. He threw both items into the stove and burned them without a second thought because he knew the item came with a anti-theft enchantment inside so he didn’t need further trouble.
“You see, I mean you no harm. The truth is I am just a boy who holds a heavy interest in magic. If you answer my questions then I can release you and even reward you for your efforts.”
The mage continues to remain silent, refusing to huff a grunt.
This didn’t matter to Du Wei, he knew the foe wouldn’t cave so easily. Continuing his search, he soon found several low-quality jewels inside the man’s pouch as well as some regular scrolls enchanted with a couple of spells inside. Now this brought on a new wave of interest in him.
Unlike a job that could alow him to gain real experience, Du Wei’s been stuck at home throughout his entire lifetime thus far. It’s true he read a lot of books, but that’s only about theories and such. It’s a great crime for the common folk to dabble in the arcane craft due to how dangerous the materials usually are. One false step and it could mean the death of countless lives nearby.
Why does this world have to restrict magic like controlling guns from my previous life, such a bother…. The boy thought to himself, annoyed by the rules of life.
It’s exactly like he says, everyone could learn about guns through the internet but no individual could create a gun by themselves without some serious effort and hurdle.
“And what is this?” Intrigued by the glass bottles inside the pouch, Du Wei pulls them out and began further examination. As much as he wants to pop open the corks and have a better look at the stuff, he’s not going to do that less he knows the ingredients. It’s too dangerous.
“Then it’s safe to assume my speculations are correct, you are not a real mage. But that’s not quite right either. From what I saw earlier, you did produce multiple fireballs from your hand, then that can only mean you used some kind of trickery or special means to achieve what you did, am I correct? Now listen up, you have two options laid before you. Either you tell me everything and satisfy my curiosity so I can release you, or you can keep quiet so I can give you a rough time until you cave and spill the beans anyway.”
“You are a noble! Don’t you feel shame to do something so beneath your status?!”
Du Wei didn’t answer to that.
Noble? Status? So what? When I came to this world, I already lost everything. My friends, my family, and my lifelong goal, everything that I held dear…. Now the only thing keeping my attention is the magic in this world. If I can’t even satisfy this much then what point do I have to live?
