Chapter 308 “Gather Together” (part two)
Joanna still wanted to say more there, but before she could, her actions were halted by Rodriguez who grabbed at her sleeve. Together, they went inside and left Cybuster to his own device.
As for Old Smoke, what else can this guard captain do? Making a meek smile, he too follows in his comrade’s trail for the establishment.
Sure enough, the first person to notice Du Wei’s presence was Rodriguez, the saint knight of the group. As a warrior of the highest standard, it’s a given this man would peer around his surroundings like a habit after entering a unfamiliar place.
Like the knight, the rest of the newcomers also noticed the boy sitting there in the corner. They didn’t expect the duke to be here of all places.
Coughing awkwardly, Du Wei clears his throat in readiness to speak. However, it was the dangerous man beside him who spoke first: “Hmm, I’m assuming you know those people over there. That guy… he’s Rodriguez, a saint class knight right? Your subordinate?” From White River’s smiling face, a sense of mockery could be seen from those eyes.

Showing herself over to take a seat, the haughty girl appears annoyed in her hollering voice: “You are quite good there Du Wei! When you and my sister got engaged, why didn’t you invite me too?! Are you implying something by doing that?”
Bitter in his face, Du Wei kept winking at the violent girl so she can take a hint. Sadly, his efforts were in vain because not only did it not work, it only infuriated Joanna: “Why are you not speaking, and why do you keep glaring at me?!”
With that said, she slams the table with her delicate hand in displeasure. Although she was no top-notch martialist of the land, but she’s still a warrior with powers comparable to a knight of the seventh level – eighth tops depending on who she asks. So, for her to be pierced by a bone chilling aura the second her hands made contact with the table, it’s not hard to imagine how surprised her mind was at the sensation.
In that instant, her whole arm had turned numb.
Despite the rude remark, White River was rather calm about this. Shooting a glance at the violent girl, his tone was mild and calm: “When I’m eating I don’t like to be disturbed by someone.”
Since Joanna’s temper was the exploding fiery type, it’s easy to imagine how quickly she erupted at the dismissal: “Humph! You don’t like people bothering you? Then let’s see you stop me!”
With that said, the girl had already pulled out the flute from her waist to swing down at the table. As much as Du Wei wanted to stop this, there’s just no time to react.
Seeing this from the back, it’s a definite Rodriguez would begin to move because he can tell his companion there was as stiff as a stone. Tapping his feet to fly over in a blurring motion, this one handed knight gently receives that frail body in a circling motion before finally placing Joanna on the ground.
Once safe again, the violent maiden can only feel her feet weak and helpless. She knows, during that second back there a mysterious Dou Qi carrying an icy chill had entered her body through her flute, causing her whole person to shiver profusely. But as an arrogant and proud person that she was, there’s no way Joanna would allow herself to be humiliated by showing her weakness. Biting her teeth, she was both shocked and angered at her attacker.
Unexpectedly, instead of being disgruntled or angered by the question, White River only had commendation in his eyes over the knight’s prudence behavior. Turning back to his captive: “What do you want to do? Do you want to try and run now?”
Making a weak chuckle, Du Wei lays it out upfront: “I hope you can understand, it’s very difficult to resist when the opportunity is presented before me. Moreover, I’m not very fond of having my soul stripped from my body.”
Bellowing out a laugh at that frank attitude, White River grins at him: “Good, very good. As my captive, it’s only natural that you would want to escape, I understand. Alright, I will give you one chance since you will never give up unless you try.”
Giving a laugh at that too, Du Wei takes his stance to send his captor a deep bow: “Then I will thank you for it!”
With that done, he immediately turns back to Rodriguez and the others: “Don’t bother asking, I’m his captive and he is no friend.”
“So you are Rodriguez? Well then, I hope you won’t let me down. Give it your best shot, otherwise you might just regret dying by my hands during our exchange.” Relaxed in his demeanor, White River also focuses in on his opponent.
Still staring at the enemy, Rodriguez’s tone suddenly took a drastic change from hostile to inquiring, “I like to ask… is your surname White?”
Bellowing out a laugh again, White River answers without hesitation: “It seems your teacher told you about me. Yes, I am he.”
Towards the oncoming attack, the recipient appears unfazed and showed no indications of moving from his chair. Rather, the person himself only raised the index finger from his left hand to flick at the icicles. And that’s when it occurred. As if teasing the world and those around him, multiple popping sounds could be heard before the ice shards shattered into thousands of particles during mid-flight, thus rippling small pockets of reality in the process….
Such an outcome came as no surprise to Rodriguez though, he never expected such a mediocre attack to work anyways against someone so strong. Merely a mean for the knight to gouge his opponent’s level.
In response to this small tiny wisp of Ice Dou Qi, borderline a thin thread in size, the monster that was the shaman king only showed joy at the sight. Smirking, he sounded pleased: “Very good!”
Without moving again, this time the man also used his thumb. But instead of a flicking motion, White River merely rubbed it against his forefinger to create some sparks with the friction of his skin. Of course, these were no ordinary sparks, the flames were literally infecting the ice beam upon contact, devouring it, consuming it to the point where nothing remains.
Tensing up at the remark, Rodriguez hurries to backs up again to gain some more distance. Enveloping his entire body in a layer of silvery white luster, a blade made up of pure Dou Qi suddenly extends out of his hand which he used to slash out at the foe. Towards this immense display of power, everything within the inn were instantly overwhelmed. Whether it be the cabinets, the chairs, the tables, everything was frozen over like an ice sculpture!
Different from the usual blades of light used by other practitioners, this attack had a special perk to it. Disappearing in the middle of its trajectory, it suddenly reappears right in front of White River’s eye like it just teleported. A neat trick by any means and a lethal one at that.
Gasping at the sight, Du Wei was amazed by his subordinate’s ability. He’s seen plenty of warriors use the same kind of Dou Qi blade, but not one that can teleport once fired out! Even magic spells cannot do this unless conjured up with the intent in mind!
Apparently caught off guard by the trickery, because White River actually made a “EH?” sound, this shaman king finally used his whole hand to counter by flicking at the air. Warping reality with that gesture, what was supposed to be a direct hit from the saint knight suddenly disappears like thin air before reappearing behind the man’s head and smashing into the wall, thus creating a mass of ice crystals in the background.
With that said, the dangerous man then reveals a faint smile: “Look closely now.”
Using his forefinger, the shaman king suddenly makes a small tiny scratch against the air in front of him; yet, instead of leaving a mark right then and there with whatever he’s planning to do, the ripple extends outwards toward where Rodriguez stood and pierces right through the knight.….
Then following a heavy thud, the walls, the structure, more than half the inn had collapsed in that instant. There were a few guests before inside the establishment, but after seeing how dangerous the situation was devolving into, they too quickly scurried away for their own lives!
Covered in cold sweat, it’s shocking for Rodriguez right now. He, a saint level knight, actually can’t see through the level of his foe sitting across from him, nor can he tell what sort of magic that was!
Showing a slight smirk, White River then stretches out his finger again to dip into the wine cup before him. Using this small amount of fluid, he randomly draws something on the table. Oddly enough, despite that graffiti like movement, the shaman king was able to quickly create a simplistic picture of their scene.
“This whole world, this space, is like this painting,” soft in his tone, “You and I are in this picture, residents of this drawing. You can understand the rules of this painting, bend the laws to your will…. Yet, shame, you are still unable to break free of this painting and be beyond its borders!”
Faintly chuckling at his own statement, White River appears amused by his own explanation: “However, you can only be as strong as the rules of this picture permits you. If you encounter an enemy higher than yourself, for example, ME!”
“You see? Even the painting itself has been sliced in half by me! And you, are but a man within this picture. Whether it be people or things, so long as I split the picture in half, those within will also naturally follow suit. That move I just used, it’s not me taking aiming at you or your attacks, it’s me taking aim at the world itself, do you understand me now young little Rodriguez?”
