“Before his death, he saw something, something out of the ordinary.”
“Is it the dirty stuff?” Idle mused and asked, “The spiritual kind?”
“I don’t know. I was the only one in the interrogation room with him, but I did see three other figures reflecting off of his pupils prior to death. I assume those are the spirits, ghosts, or whatever you want to call them.” The fatty shakes his head in displeasure.
Death wasn’t the real ending in regards for humans or other supernatural creations.
After death, the consciousness and spiritual energy would separate from the body and continue living in another form. In this state of existence, scientists have deemed this ethereal life, or the so-called soul in humans, aka “ghosts” in this line of work.
Now if Gold Happy’s death was related to said spirits or ghosts, then that would mean the perpetrators aren’t the average common spirit. As per the name suggests, ghosts are ethereal, they aren’t capable of material contact unless there are special circumstances involved. Furthermore, the common ghost would pass on into the afterlife following seven days of wandering around due to depleting their remaining life force.
Idle began to contemplate the situation stated by the customer. Slightly hanging his head down, he stares down into the teacup as he spoke. “So you’re here to ask me to investigate Gold Happy’s death?”
Shaking his head, Fatty Ho shot the idea down. He wouldn’t need to involve a temp worker otherwise. The most important thing was that key and not some thief’s murder.
“Who exactly are the ones who took the key? Are they the same group who killed Gold Happy at the interrogation?” Idle continues to ask.
“Do you know about a place called Fog Mountain Psychiatric Hospital? That’s the one on your city’s outskirt.”
Recalling for a while, Idle explains he didn’t after getting no recollection.
“The hospital bought a batch of gold bricks some time ago, about a ton. It’s because of that they were targeted by Gold Happy.”
A ton of gold bricks?
Idle almost couldn’t believe his own ears for what hospital could afford such wealth? Sure, some might in assets, but buying gold required cold hard cash. That’s not something most institutes would have on hand so easily.
“That night, Gold Happy and his gang sneaked into the hospital and attempted to smuggle the gold bricks out. In the end they were all caught.” When speaking up to here, Fatty Ho began to shake his head helplessly at the irony of the story.
“All but Gold Happy were killed by the docs there. The others were… they were eaten.” A frown forms around the fatty’s face as he took another big dose of nicotine to finish the last bit of his cigarette, “It wasn’t because he escaped, but rather let go by those at the hospital on purpose. I do not know why they would do that. Wouldn’t they be afraid of being exposed for murder and cannibalism?”
Idle had placed the cup of tea down atop of the table by now. He understood this job would be extremely dangerous and needed to pay attention.
“This mission may be a little dangerous, you…” Fatty Ho pauses and gave the young man another long look like he’s drumming up the courage to make such a request. If things fall apart, he would be partly responsible for the death of this youngster. It’s something he didn’t want to happen.
