Chapter 7 “The Strange Courtyard Part 1”

The psychiatric hospital was a round donut-shaped building, and according to the thief king’s statement, the center area was utterly independent of the rest. Surrounded with walls enclosing it from all sides, the only one exit leading to the outside world was through the dean’s office. There’s a real possibility of that area being untouched if that’s the case.

“Be careful.” Without a chance to reply, the young man promptly reached out with his hand and dragged the fatty away from that strange door.

Idle’s nose had always been excellent, and it was no exception this time. Taking a sniff by leaning forward, there’s a pungent scent of rotting corpses.

That’s right, it’s the smell of rotting corpses. The kind that’s been baked under the sun for several days with the foul odor of rancid pig fat.

“Eleven…. Twelve…” Murmuring to himself, the guy’s expression grew stranger as he counted.

“Forty-four… Forty-four discernable voices…”

Listening to what Idle said, Fatty Ho couldn’t couldn’t hold back his surprise and promptly grew heavy in his face. He too had heard the panting sound, but what’s telling him there are fourty-four individuals?

“You stand back, I’ll open the door and look first.”

As Idle orders, he slammed his foot against the remaining wall to widen the opening to the point where the entire door was exposed.

It was a metal gate with a round handle that could be twisted like a regular door, but the digital panel of told him it was passworded. On top of that, the fingerprint reader was also totally unexpected, which made both men glance at each other in awkward silence.

Fuck!!

How are we supposed to get inside like this?

No wonder the thief key would bring the “key” along. Without something like that, who can unlock a setup like this?

“Why don’t we withdraw for now?” Idle probes the other guy’s wishes, “You go back and call for support. Once the armed forces arrive, they can directly blow this area apart and the door along with it!”

Fatty Ho glanced at the young man before speaking unhappily, “Until the key is found, we are not permitted to use any destructive means here.”

Sighing helplessly, he guessed as much but still found it foolish.

He’s good at dealing with supernatural beings, but he’s genuinely not good at opening a locked gate!

Then looking down at these complex digital panels, Idle’s brow wrinkled even tighter.

Generally, it’s normal for password locks to use number combinations, but this one had picture designs instead. Or more exact, numbers that are written like painted calligraphy.

Is it Oracle Bone Inscription? (Early form of Chinese Script)

But it doesn’t look like it.

Idle became troubled as he frowned some more. He’s at a loss, and when one’s at a loss, the best choice would be to try a combination randomly.

No reaction came after raising his hand to press a few buttons blindly. There was no sound, no feedback, nothing…

Just when Idle was growing increasingly more dire like a kid that’s about to fail their exam, Fatty Ho suddenly stepped forward and acted like he had found something. Like the young man, the fatty also pressed a few buttons on the board.

“No sound? Did it break?” Fatty Ho muttered and raised his hand at the doorknob where he twisted it. And sure enough, an audible click sounded with the metallic gate sliding open a crack.

This suddenness stunned the special agent. Then exchanging a glance with his partner like a clueless dote, the two of them made the same dumbfounded face.

“The door isn’t locked!” He exclaims with joy.

“If it’s not locked then we’re good. Stay behind me and be vigilant.” Idle stepped forward and took over the lead role.

When Fatty Ho readied his pistol and walked back, Idle didn’t hesitate and slowly pulled open the door frame.

Behind the door was a deep and dark corridor, about ten meters long and only a meter wide. It’s constructed out of gray vintage bricks with the ground covered in glass beads the size of soybeans.
