“This hospital is much more troublesome than I thought, and you’ve seen the field created by that dean before…” He then sighs helplessly, “If the dean does it again to separate us, I can’t guarantee your safety during that opening. Also Uncle Ho, if you happen to meet other ghosts or spirits outside of my view, it’s very likely that you will die.”
For Idle’s prediction, Fatty Ho didn’t dare to scoff it off. After everything he’s seen thus far, that’s a real possibility. Furthermore, the dean’s ability had scared him silly by creating all those ghosts earlier.
After thinking for a while, the fatty abruptly suggests the unexpected, “If possible, I still want to remain on the scene and search around for the key.”
“Is the key that important?” Idle couldn’t resist asking this upon hearing that insistence. In his mind, a cultural relic shouldn’t be enough to warrant such risk.
“That key is a cultural relic that the superiors named. If my colleagues and I can’t retrieve it then everyone involved will be held responsible….”
“Your superiors are quite unreasonable, you know that?” Idle frowns.
“If they’re reasonable then they’re not superiors.” The fatty sighs as well at his own fate and lights a cigarette. He’s equally dreading what’s to come so that expression was all gloom and doom. “Since everyone has died in the fire, there is a real good chance the key is still on the premise. They might not have had the opportunity to transfer it out.”
Though he says that, a hint of worry couldn’t be hidden in the fatty’s eye: “But that key is very fragile, after all, it is an ancient cultural relic that cannot be compared to our modern keys. A little force and it will bend so it might’ve warped under the intense heat….”
“Then how do you plan to locate the key?” Idle got even more perplexed by his companion’s decision now.
“I don’t know.” Fatty Ho opens his hands out on both sides to shake his head, “You know how it is. The superiors expect us to know how one way or another. They expect results and nothing more.”
Idle took a long look at the guy without uttering a word. Then inhaling a deep breath, he forms a smile before moving ahead: “Alright, let’s keep going if that’s how it is.”
Undoubtedly, the quick and easy acceptance from the young man stunned the fatty: “You’re not afraid of the risks involved with this mission?” Realizing his own response was wrong after spluttering it out, he promptly corrects his voice while being ashamed of himself. “The complication of this mission has changed. I can understand if you decide to back out now young Idle. After all, you will also be held responsible if I die along the way so I don’t blame you for not wanting to continue.”
As soon as those words fell, the fatty went ahead to take a massive puff of nicotine. His eyes were sharp and severe like he’s come to a decision.
“Or we can withdraw for now and wait for reinforcement. You are unrelated to this case Idle, I can’t implicate you in this mess further. It’s not worth losing your life when you’re so young!”
Honestly, Idle didn’t expect this rough-looking fatty to be so considerate of himself when they’re already this far in. Lowering his head, he glanced at his right arm that was still in the pocket to confirm the wound had healed.
“Uncle Ho, I’m not doing this entirely for free. If possible… can you satisfy my curiosity?”
Rubbing his rib that has been restored to its original form as well, he smiles pleasantly and takes this opportunity to ask the question. It’s been on his mind for a while now so consider it payment for continuing to help.
“That key shouldn’t be as simple as an ancient artifact, right? I don’t believe you will play with your life for a mere relic.”
A wary expression instantly took hold on the fatty’s face, “Why are you asking this?”
“Pure curiosity.” Subconsciously rubbing his nose, Idle became a little embarrassed at his own childish behavior.
“If it’s inconvenient then you don’t need to tell me, I’m merely curious and don’t mean anything else.”
Finishing off the last stretch of his cigarette, Fatty Ho studies the young man’s face for a good while before finally looking away.
“That’s a master key.”
