The era of superstitious myths and hearsay had long expired, now was the age of science!
Fatty Ho couldn’t say he knows everything about this world, but he does know enough about ghosts through his department’s library system.
Spirits, the highest embodiment of ethereal convergence and the consciousness of living things. By measuring their magnetic field, one could discern the strength and power of said spirit. The stronger the magnetic field, the stronger the ghost was. A piece of common knowledge in the magic community.
Now, since the night was late and rain was pouring down, Taoism would call this a “Yin Dome”, or a massive negative field. Regardless of the name, in essence, it’s a large area filled with negative particles capable of sustaining ghosts that would’ve generally dispersed into thin air. For this hospital that just burned down and killed who knows how many patients, it’s incredibly negatively charged and dangerous.
“I assume these are the deceased patients of the hospital, right?” Idle glances over the line of ghosts in front and casually asks. Since they aren’t wearing clothes and butt naked, he couldn’t be sure of their identity.
“It’s possible.” Faty Ho replies, his voice carrying an extra sense of fear towards attracting their attention. “I’ve seen the documents. There are around a hundred patients with a dozen or so doctors and nurses. But this, there’s at least several hundred ghosts aren’t there?”
“Probably more than that.” Idle shakes his head dismissively.
The creepy dark corridors of the hospital mainly had been destroyed by the fire, meaning there shouldn’t be an echoing effect from the headbanging. But it did resonate like an echo, that alone was creepy enough to send shivers down the fatty’s spine.
And sure enough, this was not something ordinary. Fatty Ho had started to go hazy in his line of sight, and his body too began to sway left and right like a jingle following the thuds.
Idle didn’t notice this strange behavior at first, but when he did, he immediately reached out and smacked the guy back to reality with an intense sting.
“Why did you do that for!”
“If you want to go bang your head like the ghosts then keep yelling….” Idle retorts unabashedly with harshness in his voice.
Freezing for a second, the fatty recalled back to what he was doing earlier. Immediately, cold sweat came pouring out of his forehead and drenched his chest.
“These spirits are not hostile to us. If possible, I like to avoid provoking them so take that hand off the gun holster.” Idle takes in a deep breath and explains, his hand patting the other guy to move him forward. “They are people who died with misfortune, meaning they have resentment to begin with. If we don’t anger them then they might keep calm. But if you continue to act foolishly, then I can’t guarantee they won’t come after you….”
Gasping, Fatty Ho understood he’s acting like an idiot and quickly stopped what his hand was doing.
That’s right, it’s just some spirits, it’s not like I never encountered ghosts before on my missions. Why am I acting so nervous for?
“What do we do now?”
“Hold your breath and come with me, be careful not to touch any of them.” Idle leads the way by doing as such.
They had very little room to maneuver inside the corridor due to the stretch of ghosts aligning the walls. If not careful, it’s a real possibility they would bump into the ethereal bodies and cause a scene.
