Chapter 0 “Prologue Part 7”
“Why would you say that?” Fatty Ho got even more confused.
“The holes are all grouped into sets of threes arranged into a triangle formation. The left and right are blocked with only the top one open,” he mutters without facing the special agent, “while the two holes on the bottom are blocked with crystal glass if I’m right.”
“What exactly does that hospital do?” Fatty Ho wants to know more now that his inner detective has been riled up.
“It’s a kind of long term nursing home that cares for the mentally ill. From what we gathered, it’s one of the smaller ones in the region.” Gold Happy pauses to take a big inhale of nicotine before continuing slowly, “It’s also a charity that takes in the homeless with mental issues during the new year.”
“So a psychiatric hospital that deals with the homeless and such? I know a lot of hospitals, but none are set up like this….” Fatty Ho wanted to say more when he got interrupted.
“THAT’S NOT A PLACE ANYONE SHOULD GO!!!” Gold Happy snapped and began to tremble with his hand that’s holding the nearly depleted cigarette. It’s pretty clear the memory of that night was coming back to haunt him.
“To get into that open area with the closed-off building, we had to bypass the dean’s office and reach the hidden corridor behind the bookshelf. Four guards were standing there with guns in their holsters….”
“GUN???!” Fatty Ho got alarmed by this bit and jerked forward.
“Type 54 Blackstar pistols. Not the stuff you find in the black market either. It’s the real stuff you see handed out in the army.”
Immediately, you could see the dark clouds looming over the special agent’s head after hearing it’s the real deal. Finding guns from the black market wasn’t uncommon in this country, but those are always crude and of inferior quality that could easily be discerned with a glance. But if Gold Happy states it’s genuine then that meant there’s a leak from the government selling firearms to the criminals. That alone was enough to make him open a special investigation at the highest level.
“Good thing we went prepared.” Gold Happy’s expression abruptly changed into a look of pride, “I brought my apprentices and son along too that night. One of them used to be a doctor. He had some bad fortune and ended up on a different path like us. He’s not skilled in thievery though, but he was one hell of a drug maker if I do say so myself!”
Four bandits, plus four anesthetic guns packing needles that could drug a cow with a prick, those four security guards didn’t even know what hit them when they dropped.
“The securities were nothing. We dealt with them in seconds. But that passworded lock at the end of the corridor was some serious stuff comparable to bank vaults. Thankfully I had the Key, otherwise it would’ve given me a real headache, and we didn’t even reach that sealed-off building yet.” Gold Happy sighed like he’s recollecting some incredible journey, “After opening it, we went in thinking to make a fast job. Even if we couldn’t take it all at once, we still wanted a chunk of the gold when we leave.”
Once through and into the prized open area, the thieves were welcomed with more features they didn’t expect. Instead of tiles on the floor, the ground was littered with grain-sized marbles as floor covering. As for the light, the place was only lit with the tiny beams coming off of the holes on the roof, which also reflected on the glass marbles to create a magical effect.
