Chapter 0 “Prologue Part 6”
“They were eaten.”
After that last bit, Gold Happy got carried back to a seat by Fatty Ho and was offered all the cigarettes in his possession. The special agent has reviewed a lot of prisoners in his time and he could tell this thief king wasn’t lying. Although he does find the story a bit outrageous…..
“Tell me in detail from beginning to end.” Fatty Ho sat beside the guy and stared intently into the man’s face searching for any change or lies.
Not noticing this skepticism, Gold Happy quickly lit a smoke to calm his nerves a bit before continuing: “Everything went as smoothly as one could hope you know. It is a hospital and not a bank….” He then draws the approximate outline for illustration purposes on the table using his finger, “We went in around two that night. Although we didn’t have a map of the estate, it only took us one trip to get a good idea of the layout…”
According to the prisoner’s description, the hospitals’ security protocols were typical and nonexistent, basically free for them to walk in and out. However, they soon realized the structure wasn’t as simple as it may appear on the surface.
First, it was the layout. The entire structure was made into a circular formation, like a donut or water well if one was to describe it. The entrance and main hall are to the south where guests would arrive, north lies the inpatient ward, and the sides are where the examination and medical rooms were located. However, instead of a central area where it’s usually an open space for patients to relax and exercise, there are in fact a small sealed-off structure separated from the rest of the hospital lying inside that donut hole.
The hidden building had only one floor the size of a basketball court. There are no windows, nothing to let anyone see the contents inside, and the only entrance in and out was a door inside the dean’s office, making it especially difficult to penetrate.
“I was contemplating at first on why they would make such a strange layout, and then I assumed it must be where the the gold bricks were transported….” Gold Happy murmurs something inconspicuous, “You know, there wasn’t a single window facing the inner area. I doubt anyone at the hospital even knew of such a place unless they were told of this ahead of time….”
“So how did you find out about this building in this case?” Fatty Ho raised an eyebrow at the freakiness of it all, “You said so yourself. The only way to reach the inner section is through the dean’s office, and I doubt you would snoop around the head office without reason, right?”
“We were on the roof,” Gold Happy regretfully shakes his head, “at first we didn’t notice this section either because the roof enclosing the hospital made it look like it’s all connected and one big building. However, I soon found a series of holes on the rooftop that one could peek into to see the insides. That’s how I discovered the central area was hollow and separated from the rest of the hospital. You know, those holes are similar to breathing tubes you find in those old movies, the same size as a tennis ball.” With that said, the thief suddenly thought of something which rebuked his own idea, “Perhaps it’s not for air at all…”
