The Ninth Secret Bureau chapter 0 p5

Chapter 0 “Prologue Part 5”

Sure enough, Gold Happy found his senses again not long after under that scrutinizing stare. Plopping down to the ground to sit crossed-legged, he appears frail and ruined as he spills the truth. “I…. I came in here to take refuge….”

Frowning and raising an eyebrow at this unexpected answer, “Refuge?”

“A week ago, my son got wind from god knows where that the Foggy Mountain Psychiatric Hospital imported a large batch of gold bricks from out of province….”

“Why would a psychiatric hospital import gold bricks?” Fatty Ho sounded skeptical and didn’t understand this twist, “Shouldn’t they be buying medical supplies instead of something like that?”

Fatty Gold also thought the same in his tone: “I also wondered that ah. Besides, what psychiatric hospital would be that rich anyways.”

After getting a breather, the thief went ahead to ask for a cigarette from his interrogator to calm his nerves for what’s to come in his tale.

“How many gold bricks were there?” Fatty Ho curiously asked after giving a friendly flame with the lighter.

“A ton.”

“Are you playing with me?” He sounded displeased by the joke, “A ton of gold bricks? Are you sure you’re alright in the head and not delusional?”

Shaking his head, Gold Happy takes a real big inhale of nicotine before his body starts to tremble profusely. It’s obvious whatever happened spooked the living daylights out of him because it took a good minute before he could come out of that trance.

“A ton, that is no joke. The hospital is not a bank vault so I thought it would be an easy heist before I wash my hands for good. But this time…. I got too greedy.”

According to Gold Happy, they scoped out the spot beforehand and verified the exact date of when the gold would come. This was to avoid any accidents from occurring. And as insurance, he himself decided to go for the job instead of merely hiding in the shadows doing the commanding.

“Your son is a thief, too?” Fatty Ho asked curiously.

“A dragon will make a dragon, and a phoenix will make a phoenix.” Gold Happy obliges with his own logic.

Spitting at the ground in disgust, Fatty Ho didn’t like the way these criminals think and beamed a snarl at his opponent.

You might as well say the kid will imitate their elders if they are crooked to begin with. Quit trying to put gold on your own face!

“My son is perfect. He’s got a good foundation, a high understanding of the trade, and unknown in the white side of the law. I intended to pass him the key in a few years once he’s more experienced, but who knew…. Who knew things would turn out like this….”

“You slipped?” Fatty Ho grew more curious again.

But instead of replying like he would, Gold Happy hung his head in silence and begun to shake his head like he’s recalling something horrific. Then after a good while of this, he spoke with a croaked voice: “Yes, we slipped up, but not just a simple slip up.”

Knowing he’s getting closer to the answer he wants, Fatty Ho presses for more by leaning in closer.

“My son, and my three apprentices….”

At this point, Gold Happy’s tremble had evolved into a violent shake as the color drained from his face. Obviously the experience left a huge trauma on his mind that needed help.
