Chapter 118
Chapter 119: Transmigrated as a Skill-less Me, I Became Unbeatable in the Dungeon
“Be a decent person, System,” Qian Qi growled. She only had about three yuan left, and it still wanted to empty her pockets.
She bargained with a straight face: “Leave me one yuan for a steamed bun, okay?”
The System chirped: “Dear, one yuan cannot buy a bun.”
Qian Qi brightened and said with great feeling: “See, the System is so generous, it will let me keep one and a half.” She immediately transferred 2.24.
The System: “???” Its actual meaning had been give me everything, not a discount. How could she get even stingier the poorer she got?
Still grumbling inside, it translated anyway: “She wants you to adopt this weak little wolf. If the pup ever has a chance to gain an Awakener Skill, whether it chooses to Beast Contract with you will be up to the pup.”
Qian Qi frowned: “What do you mean, ‘if it has a chance to gain an Awakener Skill’?”
Beast Studies never mentioned that. As far as she knew, all Magibeasts had grades and skills. Were there Magibeasts that could not Awaken?
She ruffled the little wolf’s fur. It was soft and smooth, and the pup let out a happy chirp.
Looking at the handsome, cute pup, her mind spun up a book idea: [Transmigrated into a Skill-less Weak Magibeast, I Went Wild in the Dungeon.] [Oh, if I wrote a novel like that, would people here read it?]
The System had no idea what kind of weird things Qian Qi was imagining. It spoke mysteriously: “That question is included in the 300,000 package.”
“Fine,” she said. With two empty pockets, she was not interested in expensive knowledge. She carried the pup to the honey jar and fed it two spoonfuls of Magic Honey.
She did not despise the weak. If a pup without skills could not survive in the Dungeon, she would raise it outside. [And the Orphanage happens to need a guard dog, no, a guard wolf.]
Just as she was about to leave the Dungeon with the eighth pup, the Moon Silver mother wolf lowered its head and gave the back of Qian Qi’s neck a lick.
Goosebumps raced over her skin. She wiped the damp spot and asked in confusion: “What are you doing?”
The mother wolf simply drew back its gaze and gave its smallest child one last loving lick.
Qian Qi looked at the System, and the System made a pay-up face.
Qian Qi puffed out her cheeks: [Forget it, I am not curious at all.]
Hugging the pup, she stomped out of the Dungeon.
She did not notice a tiny silver sigil glowing at the base of her neck. It slowly seeped into her skin and faded away.
The Orphanage kids were thrilled about the new family member. They crowded around the little wolf with big, shining eyes.
The pup cocked its head and stared back at the little humans.
Its belly was full because Qian Qi fed it well, and since these kids looked like Qian Qi and carried her scent, it felt no hostility toward them.
One wolf and many kids stared at each other with wide eyes. In the courtyard, Qian Qi sat on a small stool, brows scrunched. One hand held a copy of Even a Fool Can Build a House, and the other held a hammer.
She could fix a fence just fine, but building a doghouse, no, a wolf den with a real foundation was another story. [Different fields are like different mountains.]
Qian Ba was slow to grow but very energetic. A normal den would get dragged who knew where, so Qian Qi wanted to build a stronger one.
Oh right, Qian Ba was the name she gave the pup. He was the eighth born, and she had delivered him, so he should take her surname and be her very own kid.
She set the book down and puffed as she dug the foundation. She was getting into it when a car door clunked shut outside the Orphanage gate.
She looked up and saw Si Kong Wang holding a metal case, craning his neck to peek in.
She waved and called out: “Hey, over here.”
Seeing Qian Qi, Si Kong Wang looked relieved and jogged over.
He asked like reciting a line: “Qian Qi, have you been well lately?”
“Skip the small talk,” Qian Qi said, setting down the hammer as she gave him a once-over. Her brows lifted in surprise, and she teased: “We have not seen each other that long, and you already got fatter?”
If it were only a little, she would not care. But he had clearly put on two full sizes. You could see he was overweight with the naked eye.
Si Kong Wang scratched his head, embarrassed: “I have been eating a bit more.”
Qian Qi remembered how slowly and neatly he had chewed last time. [So he was just being reserved in front of me.]
“Wangwang, classmate, keep working out,” Qian Qi said kindly. “Your weight is over the limit, and that is not healthy.” [If he keels over from high blood pressure, where will I find such a generous client?]
Si Kong Wang nodded: “I will.”
“Good,” Qian Qi said, eyeing the case in his hands. “Did you find the Magi God Herb?”
“I am not sure,” he said as he carefully opened the case. Inside were several clear glass bottles, each holding one Magiplant leaf.
Qian Qi leaned in. The leaves inside wriggled and struggled. As expected of a C grade Magiplant, they stayed lively even off the main plant.
There were six bottles. Qian Qi tested three and found none of them were the Magi God Herb.
She closed the case and said calmly: “I can give you a final answer tomorrow.”
Si Kong Wang’s tense eyes moved from the case to her face: “Classmate Qi Qi, how big is the chance that one is the Magi God Herb?”
“Hard to say. Be ready for anything,” Qian Qi said. She moved to store the case somewhere safe so the kids would not knock it over. Seeing her walk off, Si Kong Wang hurried to follow: “Then I will stay one night at a nearby hotel and come find you tomorrow, okay?”
“Why a hotel?” Qian Qi said, heart aching. If he had money for a hotel, could he not just give it to her? [I am super broke.] Still, out loud she said kindly: “If you do not mind, you can stay here. We keep this place cleaner than a hotel.”
His eyes lit up, and of course he wanted to stay as close to Qian Qi as possible: “Then I will trouble you.”
“It is no trouble,” Qian Qi said. Her gaze slid meaningfully to his empty hands.
Si Kong Wang understood at once and explained: “The driver bringing your welcome gift is still on the road. I came ahead.”
Qian Qi nodded in satisfaction and patted his shoulder like a kindly elder: “Good kid, I will make you meat dumplings tonight.”
