Chapter 95
Chapter 95: Booking the Whole Haunted House? Are You an Idiot
“Doctor Zhao, are you coming back to the hospital with us?” the paramedic asked.
Zhao Wan Er shook her head. “No. I’m off today, so I’m out shopping with my daughter.”
“Alright then, Doctor Zhao. We won’t bother you.” The paramedic nodded in understanding.
After that, the paramedic quickly pushed the stretcher away.
“Mom…”
Just then, a childish voice came from behind the crowd.
Zhao Wan Er heard it and quickly turned toward the sound.
Her daughter squeezed through the people and ran over.
“Mom, why are you running around everywhere? I almost couldn’t find you.”
Zhao Wan Er hurried over, crouched down, and hugged her daughter. “Mom’s here. Something held me up just now.”
The little girl was adorable.
Her big, watery eyes looked like a clear lake, full of innocence and confusion.
She clung tightly to Zhao Wan Er’s neck.
There was still a bit of grievance on her little face as she muttered, “Mom, you can’t do that next time. I waited over there for so long. I was really scared. I thought you didn’t want me anymore.”
“How could that be?” Zhao Wan Er gently stroked her daughter’s head. “Come on. Mom will take you to buy something tasty.”
The little girl blinked those big eyes. “Yay! Yay!”
The crowd had already dispersed.
Su Qian, however, stood there in a daze.
Doctor Zhao?
Li Yi had mentioned it before – his wife was named Zhao Wan Er, she worked at a hospital, and they had a daughter around two or three years old. [Could it really be that coincidental?]
“Su Qian?” Lu Yao glanced at Su Qian, who was frozen in place, and asked in confusion. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Su Qian came back to herself and shook her head. “Let’s go.”
Su Qian had been shopping in the mall for most of the day, and she was carrying a bunch of bags.
When they passed the escape room on the third floor, she couldn’t help stopping.
She remembered how, after Zhou Ran came out of the haunted-house escape room, black energy had clung to him, and some “dirty thing” had latched onto him.
“You want to play?” Lu Yao asked when he saw her stop and stare at the escape room sign.
Su Qian froze, then hurriedly waved her hands. “No, no, no. I don’t want to play. I’m just curious.”
She pressed closer to the glass, trying to look at the setup inside.
“If you want to play, I can go with you,” Lu Yao said. He could tell what she was thinking.
“Are you scared of ghosts?” Su Qian suddenly asked.
Lu Yao looked baffled. He snorted. “What do you think?”
Su Qian paused, then reacted.
Right. Lu Yao was a big shot from the cultivation realm, the only divine dragon left behind from ancient times.
The ghosts and monsters ordinary people feared meant nothing in his eyes.
Even with his memory loss, there was no way he would be scared of stuff like this.
“Then… should we just go in and take a quick look?” Su Qian asked tentatively, looking at Lu Yao.
She was still a little nervous, but with Lu Yao beside her, she felt braver.
Lu Yao raised an eyebrow, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Let’s go.”
“Alright!” Su Qian grinned and quickly followed after him.
They went to the escape room front desk.
The staff member explained apologetically, “I’m really sorry, you two. This haunted-house escape room has already been booked out by a customer today.”
Su Qian: “???”
“Booked out?” Su Qian thought she misheard.
[Booking out a movie theater, I get. But who would book out a haunted house? Isn’t it better with more people, so you can hype each other up? What, are you trying to bond with the ghosts one-on-one?]
The staff member gave an awkward smile. “It really is booked out. Sorry about that.”
It wasn’t just Su Qian who was shocked.
Even though the staff member had been working here for years, she had never seen anyone book out a haunted house before.
“Alright.” Su Qian was disappointed, but since someone else had booked it, there wasn’t much she could say.
She had just turned around, about to leave.
Two or three people walked over from the entrance. When Su Qian saw who it was, her eyes widened.
“Zhou Ran???”
Su Qian’s eyes were full of disbelief.
Zhou Ran also saw Su Qian. He froze, then smiled. “Tch, what a coincidence.”
“So you’re the idiot?” Su Qian stared at him. She never would’ve guessed the idiot who booked out the haunted house was Zhou Ran.
“What idiot?” Zhou Ran looked confused.
But that didn’t matter. He introduced someone excitedly. “Su Qian, this is Great Immortal Huang. I hired him on purpose.”
“You said I got ‘dirty stuff’ clinging to me at the haunted house, so I invited him to help resolve it.”
Only then did Su Qian look at the person beside Zhou Ran.
The so-called “Great Immortal Huang” wore an odd outfit.
It was embroidered with all kinds of strange rune patterns. His hair was a messy tangle, like it hadn’t been taken care of in ages.
His eyes, however, held a sly arrogance.
Beside him stood a buzz-cut young man.
Su Qian frowned. [This guy doesn’t feel reliable.]
“A con man.” Lu Yao, who hadn’t spoken until now, coldly spat out those three words. His eyes were full of disdain.
He crossed his arms and sized up the so-called Great Immortal Huang, the corner of his mouth lifting in mockery.
“You young man, what do you know!” Great Immortal Huang’s eyes widened at once, anger flashing across his face. “I, Huang, have walked this path for many years. I’ve dealt with countless tricky supernatural cases. Who are you to slander me here!”
The buzz-cut young man stepped forward too, frowning at Lu Yao. His tone turned sharp. “How can you talk like that? Great Immortal Huang is someone I worked hard to bring in. If it weren’t for the Zhou Family’s reputation, he might not even have agreed to help.”
As he spoke, he pressed a few steps closer to Lu Yao, his gaze carrying a clear threat.
Lu Yao remained calm. He only lifted his eyebrow slightly. “Oh? Is that so?”
Zhou Ran saw the situation turning bad.
He hurriedly signaled Su Qian with his eyes and asked, “What’s going on with this Brother Lu Yao?”
“No idea.” Su Qian shrugged. Then she added, “But you can listen to what he says.”
If Lu Yao said Great Immortal Huang was a con man, then he was a con man.
Zhou Ran felt helpless at Su Qian’s vague attitude.
He turned to Lu Yao and forced a smile. “Since we’re already here, Brother Lu Yao, how about… we let him try?”
These past few days, Zhou Ran really had been suffering.
Night after night, he had nightmares. He often jolted awake in the middle of the night, drenched in cold sweat.
The moment he closed his eyes, it was nothing but chaotic images.
“Up to you,” Lu Yao said flatly.
He stepped closer to Su Qian, arms still crossed, his expression carrying a bit of resignation.
The next two chapters involve the haunted house plot. It’s light and funny, not scary, so feel free to read.
