Chapter 91
Chapter 91: The Worry Still Wouldn’t Settle
Su Qian saw their messages and replied in the group, “It wasn’t me. A friend of mine went to a haunted house escape room. After he came back, the spot between his eyebrows looked dark, like he picked up something unclean.”
Li Yi (UnderworldYama King): “Looks like you really learned the [five-element ghost-taming art].”
Li Yi (UnderworldYama King): “Wait. I’ve got something good for warding off bad luck and bringing in good fortune. I’ll teleport it to you. It’s just a little ghost. Easy.”
The moment she heard there was something like that, Su Qian’s eyes lit up. “Yes, yes!”
She really needed good stuff like this.
Who knew when she might walk too many nights and run into some dirty thing.
This was way more useful than any lucky charm.
With the Yama Prince handing it out personally, would underworld little ghosts not hurry up and retreat?
Over in Underworld, Li Yi rummaged through a storeroom full of strange, weird items.
The storeroom was gloomy and dark, packed with objects that gave off a faint glow.
Li Yi moved through it, searching.
Every now and then he picked something up, inspected it, then shook his head and put it back down.
He kept looking for the good thing he mentioned, the one that could ward off danger and bring good fortune.
“Ha, this is it.”
Finally, in a corner, his eyes lit up.
He reached out and picked up a small, delicate object.
It was a tiny jade tag tied with red string. The jade was carved with obscure runes, and it faintly gave off an imposing aura.
Li Yi (UnderworldYama King): “Huh? Why did the teleport fail?”
Li Yi (UnderworldYama King): “Damn it. I forgot the group announcement. You can only teleport supplies once a week.”
Su Qian: “…”
The worry in her chest still wouldn’t settle.
Li Yi (UnderworldYama King): “How about this? Send me your location, and I’ll have Ox-Head and Horse-Face go over there once.”
“N-no need.”
“Brother Li, thank you, but there’s really no need to make such a big scene.”
Su Qian rejected Li Yi’s suggestion.
Zhou Ran had not actually had an accident. If Ox-Head and Horse-Face really showed up, that would be terrifying.
Zhou Ran would probably faint on the spot.
After closing the group chat, the empty underground garage felt chilly.
Su Qian pulled her clothes tighter. “This is kind of scary. I need to get out of here.”
She hurried to the garage door.
Just as she reached out to push it, she suddenly heard a faint sound behind her, like something dragging across the ground.
Her heart thudded.
She whipped around, but all she saw was darkness. She could not make anything out.
“Who’s there?!” Su Qian shouted.
Her voice echoed through the empty garage, trembling a little.
“Squeak, squeak-”
Right when she was terrified and imagining all kinds of things, a mouse suddenly darted out from the corner.
It scurried across the floor. The “squeak, squeak…” sound had come from it.
Seeing it was only a mouse, Su Qian let out a long breath.
Her tight nerves finally loosened, and her body went soft with relief.
She leaned against the wall and patted her chest.
She muttered, “Oh, it was just a mouse. You scared me to death.”
Still a little jumpy, Su Qian rushed out of the underground garage.
“Ouch!”
She ran too fast and did not watch where she was going. She slammed straight into a solid chest, and the pain made her cry out.
She lifted her head without thinking and met Lu Yao’s eyes, half-smiling.
“In such a hurry – where are you going?” Lu Yao raised an eyebrow, teasing her.
Su Qian’s head was buzzing from the hit. It took her a few seconds to come back to herself.
Her face turned red all at once. She stepped back awkwardly and rubbed her forehead. “N-nowhere.”
She could not exactly say she got scared by a mouse.
That was way too embarrassing.
“By the way, why are you here?” Su Qian hurriedly changed the subject.
“I just came out of the study. I was going to wash up.”
Since Su Qian was fine, Lu Yao went along with her.
Earlier, he had been in the backyard when he heard Su Qian’s panicked shout from the underground garage.
His heart had jumped, worried she might be in danger.
He rushed over, and Su Qian crashed right into him.
She looked awkward now, but at least she did not seem hurt.
So Lu Yao did not ask any more.
…
Over the next few days, Su Qian almost stayed at the farm as a supervisor.
The area for planting spirit herbs was carefully planned and fenced off with tens of meters of wire.
If anyone asked, Su Qian kept the story straight: “We’re growing expensive medicinal herbs.”
“Expensive medicinal herbs? Then of course you have to fence them in and protect them.”
Once she said that, nobody doubted it much. Expensive medicinal herbs were worth a fortune, after all.
Careful protection was only normal.
After planning the farm, Su Qian sent everyone away.
She had Shen Meng Qi swap in a whole “pure, natural, unpolluted” environment and cover the entire farm with it.
Then she had Zhou Ran arrange for trusted workers from the pharmaceutical plant, the ones who had already handled spirit herbs before.
They all planted the spirit herb seedlings.
“Really worthy of being expensive medicinal herbs. Even the smell is different.” Old Tang planted spirit herbs with the workers and could not help sighing.
“Why does it feel like the air on this farm is so much better too?”
He took a deep breath. The fresh air, carrying a faint sweetness, filled his lungs and made his whole body feel comfortable.
It was not just him.
The other workers felt it too.
Su Qian brushed it off with, “The country air is fresh.”
It took two days to plant everything Xia Meng Meng had sent over.
“Finally done.”
Back at Yun Jin Villa, Su Qian collapsed on the rocking chair in the backyard.
Sunlight filtered through mottled leaves and fell over her, forming patches of golden light.
In the blazing summer, even a light breeze carried heat.
“Here, eat some watermelon to cool down.” Lu Yao came over carrying half a watermelon, and he even thoughtfully brought a spoon.
Su Qian opened her eyes slightly.
Seeing the watermelon in his hands, a flicker of surprise appeared in her eyes.
She sat up, still cross-legged, and took the watermelon from him. “Why isn’t it iced?”
Lu Yao paused, then asked back, “Can you eat cold stuff these days?”
Hearing that, Su Qian remembered she was on her period.
No, wait…
How did he know?
“You…” Su Qian stared at Lu Yao, eyes wide. Her face flushed red, embarrassed and annoyed. Her words even stumbled. “How do you know I’m on my period?”
“What, are you a pervert? Did you go into my bathroom?”
Lu Yao: “???”
Great. He had been misunderstood as a pervert.
“Weren’t you the one who said it yourself?” Lu Yao looked at Su Qian with an innocent face.
“Me?” Su Qian was completely confused.
After a long moment, she remembered. Yesterday, while supervising the farm, her period had started, and she asked Tang Shi for a pad.
Tang Shi had even kindly made her brown sugar water.
