Chapter 84
Chapter 84: Terrible Tolerance, Decent Drunk Behavior
Su Qian grabbed a crayfish and skillfully peeled it.
She dipped the shrimp meat into the sauce and popped it into her mouth.
She narrowed her eyes in satisfaction.
“Mm – this crayfish tastes amazing. I could eat it forever.”
Stars filled the sky.
Under the moonlight, this small corner of the yard was filled with the smell of food and the two of them laughing and talking.
“Lu Yao, do you ever miss home?”
After a few rounds of drinks, Su Qian’s face was lightly flushed, and her eyes carried a bit of drunken haze.
She stopped peeling crayfish, lifted her head, and looked at Lu Yao, her eyes full of curiosity and concern.
Lu Yao froze slightly.
Even the skewer in his hand paused in midair.
Home?
That word felt especially unfamiliar to Lu Yao.
He was the only divine dragon left from ancient times. He had drifted through this world for so long that he almost forgot what “home” felt like.
The cultivation realm had many familiar things to him.
But could it really count as a true home?
Even later, when he created a sect, how many people truly treated him well?
Of course, that noisy, reckless, unreliable little disciple counted as one.
Most others either valued his strength or tried to get something from him.
Lu Yao stayed silent for a moment, then sighed softly.
He set down the skewer, took a sip of beer, and spoke slowly.
“I don’t.”
Hearing him, some of the drunken haze in Su Qian’s eyes faded.
“Right. I almost forgot you have amnesia.”
In Su Qian’s mind, Lu Yao didn’t miss home because he’d lost his memories.
“Don’t worry. I’ll work hard to help you recover your memories, and then I’ll send you home.”
Su Qian looked at him seriously.
At first, she didn’t want him to recover because she was afraid he’d silence her.
Lu Yao’s identity was special, and his strength was unfathomable. If he recovered and remembered something terrifying, her small body couldn’t handle it.
But after spending time together, Su Qian gradually realized he could be kind of cute sometimes.
No matter what, she hadn’t treated him badly.
She fed him well and took care of him.
They could be considered friends.
Even if he recovered, he probably wouldn’t do anything to her, right?
“Okay.”
Lu Yao froze slightly.
The corner of his lips lifted without him noticing.
Warmth rose in his chest, and then he gently shook his head.
[Should I tell her that I never had amnesia?]
Back then, Lu Yao pretended to lose his memory for two reasons.
One, his injuries hadn’t healed, and in an unfamiliar world, he had to stay cautious.
Two, he was afraid he would scare Su Qian away.
Lu Yao set down the beer can in his hand and began slowly, “Su Qian, actually…”
“Hic-”
Su Qian suddenly let out a drunken hiccup.
The alcohol-thick sound felt especially obvious in that brief silence.
Lu Yao: “…”
“S-sorry.”
Even she felt embarrassed by it.
Her face turned even redder, and she hurriedly covered her mouth.
“What were you going to say again?”
That interruption shoved Lu Yao’s prepared confession right back down his throat.
He looked at Su Qian, and his expression softened.
The corners of his lips lifted slightly, and there was a bit of laughter in his eyes.
“Nothing.” Lu Yao shook his head. “I just ate too many skewers. It’s a bit salty.”
Su Qian looked at him doubtfully.
But with the alcohol hitting her, she didn’t think too hard. She just laughed and said, “Then next time we’ll switch to a different place.”
“Okay.” A smile flickered in Lu Yao’s eyes.
Su Qian stood up, her steps a little unsteady.
Clearly she had drunk a bit too much.
She reached out to brace herself on the table, steadied her body, and then walked toward the house.
Seeing that, Lu Yao quickly stood up and followed. “What are you doing? Do you need help?”
Su Qian waved her hand and mumbled, “I’m stuffed. Going inside. Shower, then sleep.”
“You just said… said you’d help me with what?” Su Qian turned her head hazily to look at Lu Yao.
Her eyes were unfocused, her steps still unsteady, and her body swayed slightly.
“Help you… open the door.” An awkward look flashed across Lu Yao’s face.
Su Qian nodded in a daze. “Oh, open the door, okay…”
“I thought you were going to help me wash… hic, wash up.”
Her voice was thick with drunkenness, slurred as she stumbled toward her room.
Lu Yao’s mouth twitched.
Afraid she’d walk unsteadily and smack her head on the door, he supported her as they slowly walked inside, nagging as he went, “If you can’t drink, then don’t drink so much.”
Su Qian hummed twice.
She didn’t respond at all.
She just let him support her as she shuffled forward step by step.
When they finally reached the door, Lu Yao freed one hand to open it, then carefully helped Su Qian inside.
The house was pitch-black, with only a little moonlight coming through the window.
It cast a hazy patch of light and shadow.
Su Qian squinted and looked around, mumbling, “It’s so dark…”
“It’s fine. I’ll turn on the light. Stand here and don’t move.”
As he spoke, Lu Yao gently leaned Su Qian against the wall.
Then he quickly walked to the wall and flipped on the light.
The light came on.
The room instantly brightened.
Su Qian squinted at the sudden brightness. After a moment, she adjusted.
Lu Yao walked back to her and supported her again.
“Come on. Wash up first. You’ll feel better. Then you can sleep well.”
Su Qian followed his steps, still mumbling, “Sleep… I want to sleep…”
At the bathroom door, Lu Yao let go of her arm. “Can you do it yourself? Or should I wait here?”
Su Qian waved her hand. “No need. I’ll do it myself…”
As she spoke, she staggered into the bathroom.
Then she shut the door with a loud bang.
Lu Yao waited outside for a while, and then he heard water splashing inside.
He knew she was washing up.
After a bit, the water stopped, and the door opened.
Su Qian came out, her hair damp and her face still dotted with water.
She didn’t even look at Lu Yao.
Swaying, she flopped onto the bed.
Right after that, a light snoring sound came. She fell asleep just like that.
“Terrible tolerance, decent drunk behavior.”
Lu Yao couldn’t help chuckling.
At least she didn’t make a drunken scene. She just dropped and fell asleep.
He walked to the bedside gently and lowered his head to look at Su Qian’s sleeping face, still faintly flushed.
Her damp hair spread across the pillow, and a few strands stuck to her cheeks. Water droplets slid down her face.
She looked a little messy, but also kind of cute.
“Not even drying your hair. Aren’t you afraid you’ll have a headache tomorrow morning?”
Lu Yao turned, ready to leave.
Then he paused.
“Forget it. I’ll help her.”
A wisp of spiritual power gathered in his hand. “This lord is only annoyed that if your head hurts tomorrow, you’ll start chattering nonstop again.”
