Chapter 47
Chapter 47: I think it likes me quite a bit
Lu Yao did not speak. He just looked at her in silence.
Su Qian had no idea.
Those spirit herbs and spirit plants had already caught Lu Yao’s attention the moment they were transported to Earth.
While Su Qian was spacing out, Lu Yao had already taken his long strides into the yard.
“Hey!” Su Qian hurried after him, her nerves a mess.
At that moment, Ning Meng lay in a little nest in the corner, its head resting on its front paws. Its ears twitched at the sound, and it looked up.
It saw Lu Yao at a glance. Its eyes widened, and it shrank back.
Lu Yao saw Ning Meng too and raised a brow slightly.
Su Qian dashed in front of Lu Yao and spread her arms to block him. Nervous, she said, “Don’t get too close. It’s a little afraid of strangers.”
“Oh, is that so?” Lu Yao’s lips curled faintly, his gaze falling on Ning Meng.
“Come here,” he said lightly.
Hearing Lu Yao’s words, Ning Meng’s ears twitched again. Its eyes filled with fear, and it curled deeper into its nest, letting out a tiny whine.
Lu Yao did not say anything. He just stood there quietly.
After a while, Ning Meng seemed to feel an invisible pressure.
It cautiously poked its head out again, its eyes darting around, then slowly crawled out of the nest.
In the end, Ning Meng stopped in front of Lu Yao, letting out soft, low whimpers.
Lu Yao slowly crouched down and reached out, moving gently and unhurriedly.
“Afraid of strangers?” Lu Yao’s lips lifted. “I think it likes me quite a bit.”
Su Qian stared with her eyes wide.
If she had not seen it trembling, she might have believed him.
“What did you do to it?” Su Qian asked, full of confusion.
Lu Yao shrugged lightly. “Nothing. Maybe I’m kind, so it likes me.”
Su Qian’s mouth twitched.
Her face clearly said, “Do you think I’m an idiot that’s easy to fool?”
She did not know that Ning Meng only went near Lu Yao because that powerful aura forced it to submit.
“This fish is pretty. It seems very spiritual. What kind is it?” Lu Yao asked, his gaze turning to the koi in the backyard pond, as if it were an offhand question.
Su Qian’s heart tightened. She quickly said, “Just ordinary ornamental fish. I don’t know the exact kind. I bought them randomly at the market.”
Lu Yao listened quietly as Su Qian made things up.
Bought at the market?
Could the market sell koi from the cultivation realm?
Lu Yao narrowed his eyes slightly, a faint smile at the corner of his mouth. “Oh? Ordinary ornamental fish can be this spiritual?”
Su Qian’s heart skipped a beat. She forced herself to stay calm. “Maybe I just take good care of them.”
“Oh. So you’re a natural-born breeding prodigy,” Lu Yao said.
After a while, he looked at the spirit herbs and spirit plants. “These plants aren’t ordinary either. Where did you get them?”
Su Qian stammered, “I… I don’t know. Maybe someone gave them to me.”
“Then that friend of yours is really something,” Lu Yao said, giving her a deep look.
Little disciple, little disciple. You really are generous.
All the spirit herbs and spirit plants your master stockpiled in the back mountain over the years, you gave them all away?
No wonder the sect had felt like it was being robbed lately—first weapons vanished from the armory, then pills disappeared without a trace.
Now it seemed it was all little disciple, taking things to give Su Qian.
No matter how much you guarded against thieves, you still couldn’t guard against one in your own house.
Lu Yao felt both helpless and a little curious.
How did the two of them even get in touch?
…
“Achoo-”
Far away in the cultivation realm, Xia Meng Meng suddenly sneezed.
She rubbed her nose and muttered, “Who’s talking about me?”
She was standing in a barren valley, holding a storage pouch filled with spirit fruit she had just gathered.
“This fruit is tasty. I’ll send some to Xiao Yu…”
“This Blood Sun Herb works great for medicine. I’ll send it to Sister Qian Qian…”
Just then, several pill cultivator disciples in matching outfits rode past on immortal cranes in the distance. Xia Meng Meng’s eyes lit up.
“Sister Qian Qian probably doesn’t have many pills left.”
After muttering that, she dashed forward. “Stop right there. This is a robbery-”
…
Su Qian’s scalp prickled under Lu Yao’s gaze.
Afraid he would ask more, she hurried to change the subject. “You’re hungry, right? I’ll take you out to eat, and I’ll change your pink bedsheets while we’re at it.”
Lu Yao narrowed his eyes and stared at Su Qian for a while.
In the end, he did not press further. He nodded. “Okay.”
Su Qian took Lu Yao to the garage and stood by the car. For a moment, Lu Yao looked lost.
Seeing Su Qian get in with practiced ease, he followed her into the car.
He had been on Earth for a while now.
This was Lu Yao’s first time going out.
Over the past few days, he had learned about society from TV, so he was not too shocked by the skyscrapers and heavy traffic outside.
Su Qian took Lu Yao to a breakfast shop.
She finally understood what a “divine dragon” appetite meant.
Lu Yao ate five full baskets of soup dumplings, one bowl of wontons, and then ten portions each of fried dough sticks, tea eggs, shrimp dumplings, siu mai, scallion pancakes, and pan-fried buns!
That one meal cost Su Qian a whole month’s worth of breakfasts!
“I can’t afford this. I really can’t,” Su Qian said, shaking her head.
Lu Yao raised his brows with interest.
This little bit was only enough to make him half full.
After that, Su Qian took Lu Yao to get his hair cut.
She also bought a lot of daily necessities at the mall and picked out several sets of clothes for him.
Along the way, Lu Yao’s striking looks drew the eyes of many passersby.
Even though everything around him was unfamiliar, he still kept a calm, composed attitude.
Just then, Su Qian’s phone rang.
It was Factory Director Zhao.
“Miss Su, the medicine you wanted is ready. We put it in a warehouse in the western suburbs. When would you like to come pick it up?” Factory Director Zhao asked.
Su Qian froze for a moment. Factory Director Zhao was pretty efficient.
“Okay. I’ll come get it right now,” Su Qian replied.
Jiang Xiao Yu needed a large amount of medicine in the Apocalypse. The sooner she delivered it, the lower the risk of infection.
“Oh, right.” Su Qian seemed to remember something. “Prepare a few boxes of sleeping pills for me too.”
Fine. She would spoil Jiang Xiao Yu this once.
Factory Director Zhao froze when he heard her request. When he realized it was only a few boxes, he quietly let out a breath of relief.
He immediately replied, “No problem. I’ll prepare them and bring them over together.”
After hanging up, Su Qian told Jiang Xiao Yu in the Chat Group to find a place that was absolutely safe.
“Oh, and I prepared a few boxes of sleeping pills for you too.”
After Su Qian sent that message, Jiang Xiao Yu replied quickly.
“Wow, Su Qian, you’re the best!”
Jiang Xiao Yu’s tone was full of excitement and gratitude.
In the Apocalypse, Jiang Xiao Yu was inside a ruined, abandoned factory.
The area around her was desolate, and now and then she could hear strange sounds from far away.
“Leader, a few more people are starting to run fevers,” Xiao Lu said anxiously.
Jiang Xiao Yu’s heart had already settled. “Move everyone to the mountain villa as fast as you can. The medicine will be here soon.”
