Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Sir, Lie Down and Scam Him!
Su Qian’s mind worked fast.
Seeing the bald uncle about to make a move, she didn’t have time to think. She seized the moment and grabbed the corn on the tricycle.
Swish, swish, swish – she threw it at the bald uncle.
The neatly stacked corn scattered all over the ground.
“Sir, lie down,” Su Qian said quickly to Uncle Jiang.
Uncle Jiang understood instantly. When the uncle’s hand reached him again, he deliberately stepped on the corn, slipped, and fell to the ground.
“Oww, my waist…” Uncle Jiang groaned, lying there in pain.
One hand kept rubbing his waist.
Su Qian froze for a beat.
Uncle Jiang’s acting was way too convincing.
She immediately kept filming with her phone, aiming the camera at the bald uncle.
Her eyes were full of anger and condemnation as she shouted, “Everyone come look! This bald uncle not only bullies an old man, he’s even hitting people!”
With Su Qian’s loud shout, the scene instantly turned chaotic.
The old man and the young woman worked together with perfect timing.
Even the bald uncle stood there dumbfounded.
Hearing Su Qian’s yelling, people nearby gathered around.
They looked at Uncle Jiang lying on the ground and groaning in pain, then looked at the bald uncle standing there with his hand stiff in midair.
They started talking over each other, scolding him.
One auntie frowned. “What kind of person is this? How can you hit an old man? This is outrageous.”
“Exactly. The old man can’t even get up now. He must’ve been beaten badly.”
“This bald big head – you can tell at a glance he’s not a good person!”
The bald uncle’s face got darker and darker.
He shouted to clear his name, “Nonsense! I didn’t touch him even once. He lay down by himself!”
“You people need to say something!” the bald uncle barked, turning to his vendor accomplices.
He wanted them to testify.
But they all avoided his eyes guiltily.
Some pretended to tidy their stalls.
Some turned their faces away.
Not one of them dared to step out and help him.
“Damn it. Using me as the bird in front,” the bald uncle cursed through gritted teeth.
Then he stormed forward, about to haul the old man up. “You damn old man, stop pretending. I didn’t even touch you!”
“Don’t touch him! Are you trying to hit him again?” Su Qian snapped, moving fast to block him.
“I didn’t hit anyone!” the bald uncle roared, pointing at his head. “You’re the one who gave me a lump on my head!”
“That’s because you were bullying an old man!” Su Qian stood her ground. “You call it collecting a stall fee, but it’s obviously protection money!”
Su Qian knew that setting up a stall on the open space near the market entrance didn’t involve any stall fee at all.
It was obvious this bald guy was deliberately extorting people.
After hearing the full story, the crowd immediately took sides.
“Spit! People like him deserve a lesson. That little miss hit him well!”
“Exactly. An old man grows some vegetables and sells them at a stall. Is that easy? And you’re collecting protection money? Shameless!”
Under the crowd’s scolding, the bald uncle’s face went pale, then green, then pale again.
He glared viciously at Su Qian and ground his teeth. “Just wait. This isn’t over!”
After that.
He left in disgrace under the crowd’s boos.
Only then did Su Qian finally let out a breath.
She hurried to crouch down and check on Uncle Jiang.
“Sir, are you okay? That was really dangerous just now,” Su Qian asked softly.
Uncle Jiang opened his eyes slightly and whispered, “Miss, thanks to you. I’m fine. Lying on the ground just felt a bit hard on my back.”
Su Qian couldn’t help laughing.
Soon, the crowd slowly dispersed.
Su Qian helped Uncle Jiang pick up the corn scattered on the ground, one by one.
After everything was put back in order, Uncle Jiang looked at Su Qian with gratitude in his eyes. “Miss, thank you so much for today.”
Su Qian smiled and shook her head. “Uncle Jiang, don’t mention it. My name is Su Qian. I’m Xiao Yu’s friend. I was passing by, so I came to check on you.”
Hearing that, Uncle Jiang’s smile grew even brighter.
“So you’re Xiao Yu’s friend,” he said warmly. “It’s hot outside, miss. If you don’t mind, come sit at my place for a while.”
Su Qian followed Uncle Jiang home.
The moment she walked in, she saw a family photo hanging on the wall.
Jiang Xiao Yu’s smile in it was especially bright.
Uncle Jiang told Su Qian to sit, then busied himself pouring water and bringing fruit.
“Uncle Jiang, don’t fuss,” Su Qian said quickly as she stood. “I’m not thirsty. You should rest too.”
Uncle Jiang smiled. “How could I? You helped me so much today. What’s a little thing like this?”
As he spoke, he still set a cup of warm water and a plate of fruit in front of Su Qian.
Su Qian noticed that even though Uncle Jiang was old, his movements were still neat and quick.
The house was also tidy and organized.
“Miss, are you and Xiao Yu classmates?” Uncle Jiang asked after sitting across from Su Qian.
Su Qian nodded with a smile. “Yes, sir. We met through a school volunteer activity. Later, we found we got along really well, so we became good friends.”
“That’s fate,” Uncle Jiang said thoughtfully, then sighed. “That child Xiao Yu has a kind heart. She likes doing those kinds of activities.”
As he spoke, a trace of sadness appeared in Uncle Jiang’s eyes.
“Has Xiao Yu been busy lately? I haven’t seen her call in so long.”
Su Qian opened her mouth.
She didn’t know what to say.
She couldn’t exactly tell him his granddaughter was in the Apocalypse, busy fighting zombies.
“School has a lot going on,” Su Qian said quickly. “Xiao Yu’s been so busy she’s all over the place.”
Then Su Qian seemed to think of something, and her eyes lit up. “Sir, I’ll record a video for you and send it to Xiao Yu. When Xiao Yu finishes being busy, I’ll have her send a video back to you.”
Su Qian remembered that the Chat Group could exchange things.
Next time, she could send Jiang Xiao Yu a phone.
Then Jiang Xiao Yu could record a video and send it over.
When Uncle Jiang heard that, he immediately smiled and nodded again and again. “Good, good.”
Su Qian took out her phone and turned on the recording function.
Uncle Jiang adjusted his clothes.
Then he sat up straighter.
With a loving smile on his face, he spoke about how much he missed and worried about his granddaughter.
He told her to study well, said he was doing fine at home and his body was still strong, and told her not to worry too much.
At that moment, Jiang Xiao Yu, struggling to survive in the Apocalypse.
Was resting in exhaustion against a section of broken wall.
Her body was covered in dust and blood.
In her hand, she tightly gripped a chopping knife whose blade was already chipped.
Suddenly, a notification sounded in her mind.
She opened it and found it was a video Su Qian had sent.
When she saw her grandfather’s familiar face and heard his warm voice.
Jiang Xiao Yu’s eyes instantly filled with tears.
Jiang Xiao Yu (Apocalypse Survival): “[Excited] Su Qian! From today on, you’re my real sis!”
When Su Qian saw Jiang Xiao Yu’s reply.
The corners of her lips lifted into a small smile.
