Chapter 20
Chapter 20: I’m Your Sister’s Friend
Lin Qin was yanked so hard that she stumbled. The kitten in her arms got startled too, wriggled free, and dashed out.
Her face was full of despair and grievance. “I didn’t! And I don’t want my brother to go to jail either.”
“Sis, you turned eighteen last month. Getting married isn’t against the law. My big brother has his eye on you – that’s your good fortune.”
Brother Lin Tian Ci looked down at her and spoke like it was only natural.
He had spent years hanging around students who never studied. Over time, he started mixing with bad kids from outside school.
And he became more and more selfish and cold.
That so-called big brother had seen Lin Qin a few times and took a liking to her, so he came to harass her often.
With that so-called big brother backing him up,
Lin Tian Ci became even more reckless at school.
This time, he demanded protection money from a classmate and, in the struggle, stabbed the person. Lin Tian Ci had no regret at all. Instead, he blamed the other side for not knowing when to give in.
He had just turned eighteen last month. If things got big, he would definitely have to spend a few years in jail.
Luckily, the victim’s family was willing to settle privately and demanded three hundred thousand in compensation.
Lin Tian Ci went to that so-called big brother.
After the two of them talked it over, they decided that as long as the Lin Family agreed to marry Lin Qin to him, he would pay three hundred thousand and help Lin Tian Ci get through this mess.
“Just like your sister – both of you are money-losing trash!”
Mother Lin kept cursing. “That dead girl can stay dead. Not a cent of compensation. If we had your sister’s compensation money, our family wouldn’t be suffering like this.”
Hearing her mother’s words, Lin Qin felt like her heart was being cut to pieces.
She couldn’t believe her own mother could say something like that.
There wasn’t a shred of longing or guilt for her dead sister – she only cared about that so-called compensation money.
“Mom, how can you say that about Sister? Sister was already so pitiful. She gave so much for this family.” Lin Qin’s voice shook as she spoke.
Mother Lin snorted, completely unconcerned. “So what if she gave a lot? Isn’t she still dead?”
Su Qian happened to be walking in the stairwell when the kitten came running straight into her arms.
Right after that, she heard everything Mother Lin said.
Listen to that. How could anyone say something like this?
Anger surged in Su Qian’s chest.
She couldn’t imagine a mother being so cold toward her own dead daughter.
She hugged the kitten tight and strode into the Lin Family’s home.
When the Lin Family saw Su Qian, they all looked stunned.
“Who are you? How dare you break into a private home?” Father Lin frowned and demanded, his tone nasty.
Mother Lin and Lin Tian Ci both stared at her warily.
Su Qian glanced at Lin Qin’s tear-streaked face, then at the Lin Family members who looked like they wanted to eat someone alive.
She stepped forward. “I’m Lin Yue’s friend.”
Mother Lin had thought the victim’s family had come up again to demand money.
When she heard Lin Yue’s friend, she finally let out a breath.
But then she frowned again, her face dark, and stared at Su Qian. “So you’re that dead girl’s friend. What, you’re here to pay money for her?”
“You leeching vampires. Sucking your daughter dry still isn’t enough? What, now you want to target outsiders too?”
Su Qian was sickened by Mother Lin’s ugly expression.
Lin Qin lifted her swollen, red eyes. The moment she heard it was her sister’s friend, her grievance burst out all at once.
“Sister, I don’t want to get engaged. I don’t want to get married.”
Engaged?
Married?
Those two words made Su Qian freeze for a moment.
She had thought they only wanted to force Lin Qin to drop out and work. She never expected this was part of it too.
Lin Qin was like someone who had grabbed a lifeline. Crying, she ran toward Su Qian.
But before she could get close, Father Lin grabbed her and yanked her back.
“You little dead girl, still trying to run? If you don’t agree to marry today, I’ll beat you to death!” Father Lin snarled.
His huge palm swung toward Lin Qin’s face.
Lin Qin squeezed her eyes shut in terror. She could already imagine the burning pain of that slap.
At that critical instant, Su Qian lunged forward.
She clamped down hard on Father Lin’s wrist and twisted.
A sharp crack rang out, and Father Lin’s arm was snapped.
“Let… let go! You madman!” Father Lin screamed, his face turning deathly pale.
Father Lin was tall and big, and he had done heavy factory labor for years. He was solid.
He never imagined that this girl, who looked soft and weak, could have such terrifying strength – she rushed in and snapped his arm in one move.
Mother Lin and Lin Tian Ci were so stunned their mouths could have fit an egg.
Not just them. Even Su Qian herself was a little dazed.
[Damn, the meridian-cleansing marrow-refining pill is way too insane. Did I seriously turn into a powerhouse?]
“Beating a woman – do you still count as a man?” Su Qian snapped, then flung him away.
Father Lin stumbled and nearly fell to the floor.
Su Qian had been nervous at first, but the huge change in her body gave her confidence.
Mother Lin finally reacted and rushed forward to support Father Lin.
“Mom-”
Lin Tian Ci was so scared he backed away several steps and hid behind his parents.
“Damn it! I ran into a female madman!” Father Lin clutched his injured arm and cursed, his voice shaking.
Lin Tian Ci, hiding behind his parents, stared at Su Qian in terror and wanted to run back to his room.
Then he caught sight of a few familiar figures outside the window, hurrying toward the building.
Lin Tian Ci swallowed hard. His face went white, and his voice started trembling. “Mom… it’s them. They’re back again!”
The “they” he meant were the victim’s family members.
Father Lin and Mother Lin looked out the window.
Sure enough, a whole group was marching this way.
“What bad luck!” Mother Lin spat, then glared at Su Qian and Lin Qin.
She grabbed Lin Tian Ci and hurried out. “Hurry up and go hide.”
Father Lin followed behind them, tense and flustered.
Lin Qin watched their panicked backs as they fled. She pressed her lips together, so nervous she didn’t know what to do.
“Don’t be afraid. Just follow me.” Su Qian gave Lin Qin a steady look.
If those family members came up and couldn’t find Lin Tian Ci, then saw Lin Qin alone at home, they would definitely make things hard for her.
Lin Qin nodded hard, like a pecking chick, and followed behind Su Qian.
“Pah! This whole family – not a single one of them is any good! Kid’s dad, if the Lin Family still won’t hand over the money, smash their stuff!” the victim’s mother snapped angrily.
In the stairwell, a crowd surged upward.
They brushed past Su Qian.
They hadn’t seen Lin Qin before, but Lin Qin still kept her head down the whole time. She didn’t dare look at them, fear and unease filling her chest.
Her heart felt like it was about to leap into her throat.
Su Qian stayed calm. She had a feeling that even if a fight broke out, she might not be the one who suffered.
Once they got downstairs, Lin Qin finally felt like she could breathe again. She let out a deep breath.
“Sister…” Lin Qin followed behind Su Qian, not knowing what to call her.
“My name is Su Qian.” Su Qian turned back and smiled. “Don’t be nervous. I’m good friends with your sister.”
Su Qian glanced upstairs. Light shone through the window, and she could faintly see them rummaging through drawers, along with angry cursing.
Lin Qin’s body trembled on its own, her eyes full of fear.
Su Qian gently patted Lin Qin’s shoulder. “Don’t be nervous. You can’t go back to that home right now. It’s late. I’ll take you to the hotel to rest. Get in the car.”
Lin Qin nodded and looked at the Lamborghini in front of her.
She didn’t understand cars, but she could tell from the look of it that it wasn’t cheap.
A question rose in her heart.
When did Sister meet such a rich friend?
