Chapter 12
Chapter 12: Even Tofu Has a Brain, but You Don’t?
“Don’t be so polite. Go handle your work. I’ll be fine here on my own.” Su Qian smiled at the boss.
The boss nodded quickly. “All right, Miss Su. If you need anything, just call me.”
With Professor Zhang’s introduction yesterday, Su Qian had handed her lot over to the auction house in advance.
After the internal staff appraised it, they were all shocked.
They said they had never seen such a perfect lot before.
Most importantly, even the grandmaster of the appraisal world couldn’t identify the dynasty, which said everything about how precious it was.
“Who is that miss? The auction boss is even greeting her personally?” people nearby whispered.
They were full of curiosity about Su Qian’s identity.
“She has an extraordinary air. Maybe she’s a young lady from some big family.”
“I’ve never seen her before. Could she be an out-of-town magnate?”
Their chatter didn’t affect Su Qian.
The front-row VIP seats were almost full.
Su Qian noticed that the seat beside her held a fair-skinned young man in a shirt, sprawled out and sleeping soundly.
The corner of Su Qian’s mouth twitched.
Anyone sitting in VIP had to have some status.
But sleeping at an auction was a first.
Su Qian was about to sit down when, maybe because she startled him, he suddenly sat bolt upright. “Has the auction started?!”
He looked around, then looked at Su Qian, his eyes still a little blank.
“It hasn’t started yet. You can sleep a bit more.” Su Qian found him pretty interesting.
The young man scratched his head, his voice lazy. “Tsk, sorry. I got up too early. I’m exhausted.”
He sat back down, and he wasn’t sleepy anymore. “You look unfamiliar. Is this your first time at this auction?”
Su Qian nodded slightly. “More or less.”
The young man smiled in a friendly way. “My name’s Zhou Ran. And you?”
Su Qian hesitated, but still answered, “Su Qian.”
“Su?” Zhou Ran paused. “I thought you were the Su Family’s second miss, but she’s not as easy on the eyes as you.”
Hearing Zhou Ran, Su Qian almost wanted to laugh.
It seemed Su Mo Er’s arrogant, bullying personality was something everyone in the circle knew about.
Zhou Ran looked at Su Qian with curiosity. “Are you here for that national-treasure-level antique too?”
Su Qian didn’t commit. “I’m just here to take a look.”
Zhou Ran was the familiar type. He laughed. “Tsk, my family forced me to come see the world. But I don’t really understand antiques, so I got bored and fell asleep.”
While Su Qian and Zhou Ran were talking, Su Mo Er entered the venue with her friends.
“Mo Er, that looks like you…” Yan Yan started to say it was her sister, but swallowed the words and changed it. “That looks like Su Qian.”
Su Mo Er looked in the direction Yan Yan pointed.
Sure enough, she saw Su Qian.
Her face instantly turned ugly, her eyes full of disgust and dissatisfaction.
“So that’s where she got the money for a supercar. Turns out she hooked up with the Zhou Group Young Master.” Su Mo Er snorted softly.
In her high heels, she deliberately walked over and sat beside Su Qian.
Su Qian and Zhou Ran were still talking.
Suddenly, Su Qian felt a hostile presence closing in.
She looked up and saw Su Mo Er and Yan Yan.
Su Mo Er curled her lips into a mocking smile and said to Su Qian, “The auction’s threshold is getting lower and lower. They let anyone in now.”
Su Qian ignored Su Mo Er and turned to Zhou Ran. “Did you hear something barking?”
Zhou Ran froze, then understood what Su Qian meant.
He chuckled. “Tsk, yeah. Sounds like some weird noise, chirping nonstop.”
“Su Qian, who are you calling something that barks?” Su Mo Er’s face turned iron-blue with anger.
The Zhou Family’s power in Lin Jiang City far surpassed the Su Family’s, so Su Mo Er didn’t dare offend them.
She could only turn her spear on Su Qian.
Su Qian looked at Su Mo Er without expression. “Whoever answers is who I’m talking about.”
Su Mo Er was furious and about to explode, but Yan Yan quickly grabbed her.
She whispered by Su Mo Er’s ear, “Mo Er, this is an auction. Don’t make a scene. It won’t look good.”
“You think you’re proud just because you have an entry ticket? Any item here – can you afford it?” Su Mo Er bit her lip and forced down the anger in her chest.
Su Qian lifted her chin slightly.
A hint of teasing showed in her eyes. “I’m not buying.”
She was the seller.
Of course she didn’t need to buy.
And it was also true that she had no money to buy.
The 500 taels of gold Jiang Xiao Yu sent this time were all gone after she bought the car.
Su Mo Er choked on Su Qian’s words and didn’t know how to respond for a moment.
“Oh, I get it. You’re not here to bid. You’re here to fish for a rich husband.” Su Mo Er’s lips held a sneer, her eyes full of disdain.
Su Qian gave her a chilly look. “Could you at least create the illusion that you have a brain? Even tofu has a brain, but you don’t.”
She added, “Is it because your head is full of men that you’d even come up with that idea?”
“Y-you… you’re insulting me?” Su Mo Er’s face turned bright red, her finger trembling as she pointed at Su Qian.
“Yeah. You finally heard it.” Su Qian acted surprised. “Sometimes I don’t express myself well, but meeting you is truly bad luck.”
As she spoke, Su Qian even sighed softly.
“Pfft-” Zhou Ran was amused and laughed.
He looked at Su Qian with admiration. “Tsk, you’ve got a sharp tongue. When are you going to lend it to me?”
Zhou Ran thought Su Qian had a lot of personality, exactly his taste in friends.
Su Qian waved her hand. “Sure, sure.”
Su Mo Er was so angry she almost passed out.
Su Qian didn’t care at all.
She didn’t like starting trouble, but since Su Mo Er shoved her face over, there was no reason to pamper her.
The auction began.
Su Mo Er finally forced down the anger in her heart. She couldn’t let Su Qian ruin her mood.
The auctioneer walked onto the stage.
In a steady, infectious voice, he introduced the first lot.
The first lot was an old piece of calligraphy, with a starting price of several million.
The bidders on site weren’t very interested.
Most people had come for the mysterious lot.
Su Qian had brought three items for Professor Zhang to appraise: the porcelain, a jade bangle, and a tea set.
She liked the bangle and didn’t plan to auction it.
What she handed to the auction house was a set of porcelain.
As for the tea set, she had other uses for it.
At last, Su Qian’s porcelain appeared.
The auctioneer introduced the porcelain with excitement, praising its value: exquisite craftsmanship, perfect preservation, and a rare treasure.
The starting bid was eight million.
“Even Professor Zhang couldn’t identify the age, so it has to be good stuff.”
Zhou Ran, who had been bored enough to almost fall asleep again, perked up the moment he heard the auctioneer.
“Ten million!” Zhou Ran bid.
He jumped the price straight to ten million right away.
It instantly made a lot of people unhappy.
Then they turned around and saw it was the Zhou Family Young Master.
Oh, it was him. Then never mind.
