Chapter 93
Chapter 93: Died a Worthy Death
Meng Yang looked dazed and stunned. “Heir Apparent, what exactly happened? It… why was it in my courtyard?”
Qi Shu Xian listened to the sounds inside. He felt unhappy, but he also knew he was the one who had done it. He patted Meng Yang in reassurance and stood. “Enough. It was only a beast. If you couldn’t bear it, I would buy another one that looked the same and send it to Ping Lan Residence.”
The words had barely left Qi Shu Xian’s mouth when Sheng Zhi Wan walked out of the small kitchen. Lai Fu’s body had already been handed to Ting Lan.
Sheng Zhi Wan walked straight toward Qi Shu Xian and Meng Yang. There was no emotion in her eyes, only endless coldness.
Qi Shu Xian frowned and immediately stepped in front of Meng Yang, guarded and tense, ready to speak-
A flash of light cut across the air, and then pain tore through his arm.
Meng Yang saw blood dripping from Qi Shu Xian’s sleeve almost at once. “Heir Apparent!”
She caught sight of the cleaver raised in Sheng Zhi Wan’s hand and screamed in terror. “Sheng Zhi Wan, were you crazy? You dared to hurt the Heir Apparent!”
Sheng Zhi Wan did not even look at Meng Yang. The cleaver kept swinging toward Qi Shu Xian’s throat.
Qi Shu Xian had only been injured because he was not prepared. Now that he was on guard, he seized Sheng Zhi Wan’s left hand in a hard grip. With a small twist of force, the cleaver clattered to the ground.
Hatred surged in Sheng Zhi Wan’s eyes. She had known she could not beat him. How could she not have prepared a second move?
A sharp silver hairpin was clenched in her right hand. The instant Qi Shu Xian shifted to restrain her, Sheng Zhi Wan stabbed the hairpin straight into his shoulder blade without hesitation.
Qi Shu Xian let out a muffled groan. A deep, aching numbness spread through his shoulder. He looked down and met Sheng Zhi Wan’s ruthless gaze.
Sheng Zhi Wan’s hand tightened on the hairpin. She stirred it in the wound a few times before yanking it out.
Qi Shu Xian clutched his left arm. The stabbing ache was so fierce he could barely lift it.
Meng Yang was shaking. “Heir Apparent, Heir Apparent, were you alright?”
[Sheng Zhi Wan was insane. A vicious, merciless lunatic.]
Qi Shu Xian snarled, “Don’t touch me!” The moment Meng Yang’s hand brushed his left arm, it felt like a thousand needles stabbed in at once.
Meng Yang jerked back in panic.
Qi Shu Xian stared at Sheng Zhi Wan, humiliated and disheveled. “What did you do?”
Sheng Zhi Wan finally smiled once, and then smiled again.
“Qi Shu Xian, I asked and you answered,” Sheng Zhi Wan said calmly. “Otherwise, your arm would be useless forever.”
“What?” Qi Shu Xian could not believe it.
Sheng Zhi Wan did not bother with his disbelief. She asked coldly, “Who did it?”
Qi Shu Xian pressed his lips together and stayed silent.
Sheng Zhi Wan smiled again. “Good. It seemed you didn’t want this arm anymore. A general who fought on the battlefield, once he lost an arm, might die there one day. That would count as avenging Lai Fu.”
She turned to leave.
Meng Yang’s face twisted with desperation. “Wait!”
She looked at Qi Shu Xian’s pained, handsome face and forced herself to speak through gritted teeth. “Princess, this was all my fault. I-I was willing to die to repay Lai Fu. Princess, please don’t hurt the general’s arm.”
As soon as Meng Yang finished, she threw herself sideways, trying to crash into something.
Qi Shu Xian’s expression shifted. He caught her with his other arm and stopped her.
Tears flooded Meng Yang’s eyes.
Qi Shu Xian said coldly, “There was no need. This small injury wouldn’t cripple me.”
Sheng Zhi Wan’s voice cut in, icy and merciless. “The spot I stabbed was called Tian Zong Acupoint. The Heir Apparent was a martial artist, so Qi Shu Xian should know exactly what happened when Tian Zong Acupoint did not run smoothly. If you didn’t believe me, you could try Qi Circulation yourself.”
Meng Yang looked at Qi Shu Xian, terrified. “Heir Apparent…”
Qi Shu Xian’s face shifted. He did not believe Sheng Zhi Wan, a Princess, could understand acupoints. She had never mentioned anything like this in front of him.
But she sounded so certain that Qi Shu Xian hesitated, then secretly gathered Inner Power.
“Ah!”
A sharper pain than before exploded through Qi Shu Xian’s left arm.
Qi Shu Xian went rigid. It was real.
Sheng Zhi Wan… actually crippled his left arm?
How could that be possible?
Qi Shu Xian refused to believe it. He tried to push his Inner Power again and again. Soon sweat broke out across his face.
Meng Yang’s voice shook. “Heir Apparent, what happened? Say something!”
Sheng Zhi Wan spoke softly, like a ghost at the edge of the ear. “That was six times. Let me remind you, if you used Inner Power more than ten times, your arm would truly be ruined.”
Qi Shu Xian instantly stopped. He stared at Sheng Zhi Wan in disbelief. “When did you learn this? Why did I never know?”
Sheng Zhi Wan’s eyes were cold. “Did the Heir Apparent really want to discuss that right now?”
Her voice dropped. “I’ll ask the Heir Apparent again. Who exactly harmed Lai Fu?”
Qi Shu Xian stayed silent.
Sheng Zhi Wan turned as if to leave.
“It was me!” Qi Shu Xian’s voice rang out.
Sheng Zhi Wan’s steps froze.
Qi Shu Xian’s expression turned ugly. “But who was there to blame? If you hadn’t been so aggressive, if you hadn’t tried to have Qing Liu beaten just because of a few words, if you hadn’t treated human life like nothing, then Yang’er wouldn’t have been knocked over and fallen into a high fever, still unconscious!”
Sheng Zhi Wan turned back, her eyes locked on him. “Then why did Qi Shu Xian harm Lai Fu?”
Qi Shu Xian’s face tightened with anger and shame. “Because of Dog-Blood Warding. It was only a beast. If it died, it died. If it could save Yang’er and the child in her belly, then it died as it should!”
