Chapter 332
Chapter 332: He’s Petty
If not for her sharp sense for danger and her quick decision to blast the man in black with a Heavenly Thunder Talisman first, she might have been badly hurt by the terrifying power hidden inside that concealed weapon. If his strike had hit a vital spot, she could even have died.
She refused to hand that thing over, because the force inside the hidden weapon had to be triggered by Spiritual Energy; without it, the weapon was only a tougher, slightly sharper dart in anyone else’s hands.
If it were only a bit sturdier, that wouldn’t matter. What she feared was this: if other demonic cultivators saw it, they might decide to kill and steal.
After meeting plenty of demonic cultivators already, Yu Zhi Yi wasn’t naive enough to think the Jiang clan could keep such a weapon safe.
The whole family stared at their shares like they were priceless prizes. No-scratch that. They didn’t just look like treasures; they were treasures.
Jiang Yu Chuan suddenly remembered something and said to his daughter: “Right, Yi’er, make sure you hide that Spatial Talisman well.”
Yu Zhi Yi arched a brow, asking, “Why?”
Jiang Yu Chuan frowned and said: “A treasure that can hold space is unheard of. If word gets out, people will have dangerous ideas.”
“And also…” He seemed embarrassed to continue.
Xiao Qing Xuan rolled her eyes and said, “What’s so hard to say? If you’re too shy to say it, I’ll say it for you: your dad worries your eldest uncle won’t be happy.”
Jiang Yu Chuan had already told everyone what happened behind the mountain, so they all knew Yu Zhi Yi had given Jiang Yu Wei tens of thousands of taels of gold. But compared to a Spatial Talisman that can store things, common gold and silver weren’t worth mentioning.
Jiang Yu Chuan didn’t really know what Spirit Stones or talismans could do, so he didn’t fuss over who got what. But he had seen the Spatial Talisman with his own eyes…
“It’s fine,” Yu Zhi Yi said, waving it off with an easy look: “It’s just a Spatial Talisman. Even if you didn’t bring it up, I planned to draw more. If Eldest Uncle wants one, I’ll give him two.”
A Spatial Talisman didn’t need Spiritual Energy to activate; a single drop of blood to recognize its master was enough, and then the master could use it freely. Of course, because it was so easy to claim, people might kill to seize it-but that wasn’t Yu Zhi Yi’s problem.
Everyone stared and blurted out: “You can draw talismans?”
Yu Zhi Yi sighed and said with a helpless smile: “I’m from the Mystic Sect. Isn’t it normal for me to draw a few talismans?”
The Jiang clan fell silent. Right-when you put it that way, it made sense. They had grown muddle-headed and forgotten that their daughter and sister wasn’t the same as them anymore. She already stood on a height they couldn’t reach. But no one in the family minded. The higher she stood, the happier they were.
Since she said she’d draw, she drew, without a hint of hesitation. She already knew how; Spatial Talismans were routine work for her. And the ones she drew were better than the one taken from the man in black. His Spatial Talisman held only about one cubic meter; hers could hold about ten cubic meters-roughly a small room-enough for quite a lot of things.
Besides the Spatial Talisman, Yu Zhi Yi also spent time learning to draw a Fire Command Talisman, a Purification Talisman, and an Earth Shield Talisman. She hadn’t drawn these three before. But once she put brush to paper, she found they were much simpler than the talismans her senior brother had given her.
Even so, something about drawing them felt strange. She stared at the finished talismans for a long time before she figured it out: these low-level talismans had more strokes than the ones in her senior brother’s Talisman Tome, yet their power was weaker. They were all thunder-type talismans, but while a Heavenly Thunder Talisman took only a few breaths to finish, a Lightning Command Talisman took twice as long-yet its strength wasn’t even one-tenth of Heavenly Thunder’s. [Something here doesn’t add up.]
It was odd, but Yu Zhi Yi had never learned talisman craft in a formal way. She had only copied a few from the Talisman Tome her senior brother gave her. Maybe after she saw more, she’d figure out the key.
Since she’d started drawing, she decided to go all the way. For the next few days she went nowhere, staying in her room and drawing. Three days before the Earthly Ranking gathering, Yu Zhi Yi finally set her brush down.
In those few days, she drew 170 Heavenly Thunder Talismans, 170 Purification Talismans, 4 Protective Talismans, and 5 Spatial Talismans, plus 200 Healing Talismans for the heart, liver, spleen, stomach, and kidneys.
She had offense and defense, with healing and cleaning too-a full spread of types.
As for other kinds, it wasn’t that she didn’t want to draw them. First, she didn’t know them yet; second, in the Martial World, things boil down to attack, defense, and injury. Purification Talismans were handy for cleaning on the road. Healing Talismans helped prevent minor wounds from turning bad. Even if someone used crooked tricks, if the enemy couldn’t break her family’s defenses and could be locked onto and blown apart by a Heavenly Thunder Talisman, they weren’t much of a threat.
She gave each of her own family members 30 Heavenly Thunder Talismans, 30 Purification Talismans, and five Healing Talismans-one each for the heart, liver, spleen, stomach, and kidneys. They didn’t need Protective Talismans because they had a Defensive Magical Artifact. She handed all the rest to her eldest uncle, Jiang Yu Wei, to distribute as he saw fit.
When Jiang Yu Wei received the talismans, he stood there in a daze. Hearing Yu Zhi Yi describe their powers, he was so stunned he couldn’t speak for a long while.
Seeing he still couldn’t quite accept it, Yu Zhi Yi glanced at the inkstone on the table. She poured ink onto the tabletop, then took a Purification Talisman from the stack. With a flick of her fingertip, the talisman turned to ash in her hand-and the ink stain on the table vanished. Not only the ink-the leftover grease and crumbs from the banquet he’d just hosted disappeared too.
Jiang Yu Wei gasped and cried out, “Jin’er!”
He believed it now-fully and completely.
Yu Zhi Yi didn’t try to take credit. She went over each talisman’s effect again, then stressed that she hoped Eldest Aunt would stay safe and healthy. After that, she wouldn’t interfere.
She wasn’t close with this uncle, but Eldest Aunt was a decent person-and there was also Jiang Liu Bin, who kept running after her all day. If Eldest Uncle hadn’t been so much of a male chauvinist, she would have handed everything straight to Eldest Aunt. She had lived two lives in the mortal world and wasn’t naive like those bitter cynics who think skill alone gives them the right to run other people’s lives. For small matters, following common rules keeps others out of trouble.
Sure enough, after Yu Zhi Yi left, Jiang Yu Wei called his wife over, told her about the talismans, and gave her ten Purification Talismans, ten Lightning Command Talismans, four Healing Talismans for the heart, liver, spleen, stomach, and kidneys, and one Protective Talisman.
