Chapter 264
Chapter 264: Although I sold you, I did nothing wrong
Liu Dong Ping felt a sharp pain at his neck, and the jade amulet hanging there snapped cleanly into two pieces. His face changed at once, but before he could say anything, a freezing yin wind swept through the once-warm teahouse hall. The temperature plunged, and he shivered hard.
He muttered, dazed: “The protective jade… it shattered…”
He turned his head on instinct, then froze when he saw a face of sickly green and white with blood leaking from all seven orifices. That face stretched into a crooked smile, the mouth curving wider and wider past anything a human jaw should do. Worse, a mouthful of fangs filled its grin. The teeth were uneven and razor sharp, each one gleaming with a cold white sheen.
For the first time in his life, Liu Dong Ping truly understood what “a green face with fangs” meant. Terrified, he sprang backward in one bound a full two meters and screamed: “Ghost!”
The people in the teahouse glanced toward the empty doorway, confusion on every face. They whispered: “What ghost? We don’t see anything.”
Liu Dong Ping didn’t care why others couldn’t see it. He bolted in panic, begging as he ran: “Son-in-law, I was wrong! I was really wrong, please spare me!”
He stumbled and babbled on: “I didn’t want to do it. It was all Zishan! She said she didn’t like you anymore but also refused to give up the glory and riches of the Wang Clan. She wanted you dead. I only did what she asked.”
He gasped, tripping over chairs: “Even the idea to suppress your spirit was hers. It was all her! Don’t blame me!”
He had already forgotten the bold vows he used to make. Chased by the Wang Clan young master’s vengeful ghost, he ran while begging for his life, every word clearly exposing the monstrous crimes he and Liu Zishan had done.
The young master’s ghost had been trapped at the bottom of a dry well for almost three years, tormented daily by the suppressing array, in agony so great he had wished for complete annihilation. Now that he was finally free, he would not spare the culprits.
Blood streamed thicker from his eyes, nostrils, and mouth; the black liquid gathered beneath him into a small dark pool. He sneered: “Don’t blame you? If I hadn’t seen you and your daughter in bed with my own eyes, I might’ve believed your lies.”
He curled his lip and spat: “I won’t spare that filthy woman, and I won’t spare you, old bastard. Hand over your life!”
He let out a piercing shriek and pounced at Liu Dong Ping. His fingernails, black as pitch, had become hooked blades. If they stabbed into Liu Dong Ping’s body, Liu Dong Ping would surely die.
Yu Zhi Yi watched until the moment was right, then told Li Yu softly: “Go.”
Liu Dong Ping did deserve death, but he had committed his crimes among the living, so human law should punish him. A vengeful ghost had no right to decide his fate.
As for the Wang Clan young master himself, his story made people sigh, but he was not worthy of sympathy.
No one in the teahouse could see the young master’s ghost. They saw only Liu Dong Ping racing around and shouting out his own crimes. In his mad flight he crashed into table after table, smashed stools and teapots, and didn’t notice any of it. His face grew paler and paler.
Suddenly his feet lifted off the ground. He slapped frantically at the front of his neck as if fighting off something choking him. But there was nothing in front of him.
If there was truly nothing there, why was his face turning bluer? Why was his body rising higher and higher?
He floated up three or four meters. Even a master of the martial world could not stay that high for long.
At last the guests in the teahouse felt real fear. They whispered: “Could there really be a ghost?”
Before anyone could think of an answer, Liu Dong Ping’s body dropped like a stone. A gale of yin wind burst through the hall, whipping everyone’s clothes with a loud flapping sound. Even the heavy thud of Liu Dong Ping hitting the floor was swallowed up by the roaring wind.
Then, two ghostly figures flickered faintly in the air. Those who had seen the Wang Clan young master cried out: “It’s the Wang Clan young master!”
As for Li Yu, since she was a woman who rarely went out, few recognized her face. But after what Yu Zhi Yi had just said, it wasn’t hard to guess who she was.
The young master who had been so arrogant earlier now looked like a mouse before a cat. His gaze skittered away as he backed up again and again. He stammered: “Yu’er, I… I was tricked by that slut. If you want to blame someone, blame that woman and her father. Don’t blame me. I’m a victim too!”
He let out a loud sob and threw himself toward Li Yu: “They ruined me so badly! She poisoned me and killed me, and that wasn’t enough. She framed my father to death, then drugged my mother to control her and used her to seize the Wang Clan.”
He wept, reaching for her: “Yu’er, I regret it. You were the best. If there’s a next life, I’ll love only you and treat you well.”
Li Yu’s face turned iron blue at his shamelessness. She snapped: “Only after being hurt by another woman do you remember I was good to you. Are you actually sorry, or do you just want a gentle, obedient woman to act like a second mother to you?”
She spat in disgust: “I was blind to ever think you were a good man. Hah. You’re trash, a coward!”
She bared her teeth as black energy surged around her: “Someone like you even dreams of a next life? Die. Die!”
She let out a sharp, angry cry and flew at the young master.
The young master was also a vengeful ghost. At first he had felt fear when he saw Li Yu because he was guilty. But when she didn’t forgive him and even cursed him, he grew angry and snapped: “I already apologized. What more do you want?”
He snorted coldly: “Yes, I had people sell you, but I didn’t kill you. Your death has nothing to do with me. Why should you kill me?”
He gave a hard smile: “We’re both vengeful ghosts. Do you think you can do anything to me? Since you refuse the toast, drink the punishment. Go die.”
The two vengeful ghosts crashed into each other and began to grapple.
Several girls in the teahouse listened to their words and finally understood that the young lady of the Li Clan had truly been ruined by that scumbag man and that shameless woman. Their fear of ghosts faded, replaced by anger at the young master’s shamelessness. Still, they worried for Li Yu. The scumbag wasn’t wrong about one thing: both sides were vengeful ghosts, and he was a man. Could Miss Li really beat him?
Yu Zhi Yi wasn’t worried about whether Li Yu could defeat the young master. She worried only that Li Yu might be pushed into becoming a soul-stealing ghost. She could handle a soul-stealing ghost too, but it would be troublesome.
