Chapter 159
Chapter 159: The Demonic Cultivator’s Revenge on Consort Yu
Hidden in the dark, the demonic cultivator stared fixedly at the Chancellor’s Manor with cold, vicious eyes.
He had already taken revenge on Consort Yu today. He did not dare offend the Imperial House openly, so he only used small tricks, but they were more than enough to make Consort Yu suffer.
She wanted to give birth to a young prince to fight for the throne, so the Yu Clan could reach the top among the great houses.
He shattered her dream.
The child in her belly had indeed been a boy. But that was now in the past.
He had placed a curse on her. Once the curse took effect, it could not be undone. The male baby would soon shed all male traits and become a female infant.
Yet because the child was originally supposed to be male, the child would grow up with a deep inner conflict. The child would feel, deep down, like a boy, while the body would seem very much like a girl but would lack a woman’s most defining parts. In places that show one’s sex, there would also be underdeveloped male features.
In other words, Consort Yu would give birth to what people scornfully call a “half-man, half-woman.” This would hurt her ten thousand times more than simply killing her.
And in the future, no matter how many children she had, every one of them would become a cursed child neither fully male nor female, “monsters” in the eyes of the world.
She deserved it.
After his revenge, he felt refreshed, and another enemy came to mind.
Yu Zhi Yi.
She was very strong. He could not take revenge now. But having no chance today did not mean having no chance in the future.
He was not like orthodox cultivators. Orthodox cultivators could only raise their strength through steady cultivation and rare treasures. Demonic cultivators could use all things under heaven to cultivate.
The fastest way was to absorb fresh blood and resentment.
Human blood and resentment were the strongest nourishment. Better still, though rarer, were a cultivator’s blood and resentment.
Sadly, cultivators were few, and most belonged to Dragon-Tiger Mountain and the major sects. With his current skill, he could not break the Tiger Mountain Grand Formation to capture them.
He had felt regret about that before.
But now, one was right before his eyes.
The only problem was that he could not beat her.
[When I return to my peak, I will eat her flesh and drink her blood.] He set that goal in his heart and prepared to leave.
Yes, he did not plan to make a move on Yu Zhi Yi tonight. He had ambition, not stupidity. He knew that if he picked a fight with her in his current state, he would only suffer more and die miserably. He only wanted to spy on his enemy from afar to boost his courage.
Then he turned around and saw a slim figure.
In the moonlight stood a young woman, gentle and refined in looks. Her clear eyes were not exactly warm, but not cold either. She looked at him, just looked, with no emotion at all, as if he were not a demonic cultivator but only a clump of weeds by the road.
There was no ripple of spiritual energy around her, as if she were an ordinary woman who had wandered up behind him in the night.
The demonic cultivator’s hair stood on end: “Y-you… when did you get here?!”
Realizing he sounded too rattled, he rushed to explain: “Don’t misunderstand. You just startled me by showing up all of a sudden.”
This woman should not recognize him… right?
Yu Zhi Yi chuckled: “When you set up a formation to kill me, you seemed plenty bold.”
The demonic cultivator’s heart leapt to his throat: “You know me?”
Yu Zhi Yi found it amusing: “Did you think I would just shatter your cultivation base and then let you go?”
“?”
“I left a trace on you long ago. Only I, or someone with a higher cultivation base than mine, can sense it,” she said, raising a brow at him. “You shouldn’t be a stranger to this method.”
He was not. When he picked a target to torture and kill, unless he could act at once, he always marked them first and struck when they were alone.
But he had only ever used this trick on others. He saw those people as no better than livestock and never gave it a second thought.
Tonight, with that mark of death on his own body, he finally felt fear.
“You… you already punished me. You can’t kill me!” He stumbled backward.
Yu Zhi Yi snorted: “What made you think a righteous cultivator would spare a demonic cultivator?”
She looked him over with interest, her gaze sweeping over his face: “If I let you go, how would the innocent women you killed get justice?”
“But you’re righteous,” the demonic cultivator cried. “Don’t righteous cultivators care about karma and mercy? Don’t you save people?”
Yu Zhi Yi laughed: “Showing mercy is what Buddhist cultivators do. As for me, I joined the Heavenly Secret Sect.”
She formed seals with her hands. When the final seal clicked into place, she smiled: “People of the Heavenly Secret Sect have a simple rule: if you refuse to submit, we fight.”
In the next second, countless shadows appeared around the demonic cultivator. Every shadow had scarlet eyes filled with boundless hate.
“No…”
He tried to move but could not. He could only watch as the shadows rushed him.
Soon, the demonic cultivator stopped moving. With a thud, he fell stiffly to the ground like a block of stone.
He was dead.
Dead for good.
The face that had barely recovered to look like a man in his sixties or seventies changed again at great speed, returning to the look of a skeleton draped in skin. Aside from the frightening appearance, everything else was like an ordinary old person who had died of age.
Only Yu Zhi Yi knew that his soul had been torn apart by the resentful spirits wrapped around him.
She looked up at the spirits, now aimless after their revenge, and let out a soft sigh.
They were all pitiful. With one vicious glance from the demonic cultivator, they had died young, their souls denied rebirth. Now they had become resentful spirits.
Without a miracle, they would only drift through the world without aim. Even if they did not attack people on purpose, anyone who brushed against their resentment would suffer bad luck at best and lose their life at worst.
Over time, some of them might evolve into evil spirits that harmed the innocent. More likely, most would never get that chance and would simply fade away when their last shred of soul power was gone.
Looking at those faces that still showed traces of their former freshness and beauty, Yu Zhi Yi could not bear it. She formed seals with her hands again and began to chant under her breath.
