Chapter 81: Make Them Write a Confession Scroll
Those few words carried so much news that the four of them were all shocked.
They looked at Shen Sang Ruo with complicated feelings.
Feng He Yun wanted to speak, but when he thought of what he had done to her, he shut his mouth in guilt.
When he heard that the Fire-Scale Vine was with her, Wen Xuan froze, then gave a bitter smile and chose not to scold her.
What surprised Shen Sang Ruo the most was Lu Shi Qing.
He had a handsome face and had once been the favorite of many female disciples of the Flying Cloud Sect. He always cared about his image.
But now Lu Shi Qing looked thin and haggard. There was even a faint blue stubble on his jaw, and his eyes were fixed on her.
In the past he would not spare her an extra glance. Shen Sang Ruo only found him strange.
Only Luo Chu reacted the most. Almost as soon as Master Ling Xiao finished, he shouted in anger: “Good for you, Shen Sang Ruo. During the avalanche, you watched us die and did not help. You even hid the Fire-Scale Vine that could save our Junior Sister.”
He ranted on, voice full of blame: “What did our Junior Sister ever do to you? Do you hate her because you are jealous that she took our attention?”
He jabbed his finger as if to drive home the point: “We like our Junior Sister because she deserves it. A vicious person like you will never match her.”
He ended with scorn: “You want us to write a Confession Scroll for you, so why do you not write one for our Junior Sister?”
These days he had been worried sick about Bai Mu Mu’s condition. In his mind, Shen Sang Ruo had been carefree with the Fire-Scale Vine, ignoring their bond as master and disciples.
Shen Dao Chen frowned at Luo Chu’s harsh attitude. He had never paid attention to how Shen Sang Ruo was treated on Thunder-Scale Peak and had assumed she and her Senior Brothers at least got along.
Shen Sang Ruo remained very calm, which made Luo Chu look like a jumping clown. She asked in a flat voice: “Finished?”
“Do not look at me like that,” Luo Chu hissed through his teeth.
The same pitying look as at the Slanting Mountain Icefield went straight through his defenses. He could not understand why Shen Sang Ruo always looked at him that way when she was the one who should be pitied.
Wen Xuan caught Luo Chu’s arm and then looked at Shen Sang Ruo as he asked: “If we write a Confession Scroll, will you bring out the Fire-Scale Vine, Little Ruo?”
“Yes,” Shen Sang Ruo answered crisply.
“Good, we will write,” Wen Xuan said, his smile turning more bitter.
They already owed Shen Sang Ruo too much. They should have apologized long ago.
If they had realized their mistakes earlier, how would their relationship have fallen this far?
He looked into her calm eyes and felt a pain in his chest he could not control.
“Second Senior Brother?” Luo Chu tugged at Wen Xuan’s sleeve, unable to accept it, but Wen Xuan pulled his hand away.
Luo Chu turned to the one most likely to side with him, Lu Shi Qing. But Lu Shi Qing would not even look at him. His eyes seemed to hold only Shen Sang Ruo.
Wen Xuan’s words and the others’ reactions finally made Master Ling Xiao sense that something was off.
Could they really have wronged Shen Sang Ruo?
He frowned and decided to watch.
Wen Xuan pressed his index and middle fingers together. Spiritual power gathered at his fingertips, and he wrote translucent words in the air.
He began to confess: “We misunderstood and thought Fifth Junior Sister pushed Junior Sister into the ravine…”
Shen Sang Ruo cut in: “Shen Sang Ruo.”
She was no longer their Fifth Junior Sister.
Wen Xuan took it as a demand for formality and changed the wording to Shen Sang Ruo.
Then he wrote that they locked her in the Confinement Chamber and forced her to confess, that they did not notice her unstable cultivation, that they forced her heart blood and made her lose her cultivation.
Master Ling Xiao’s brows drew tight. Everyone present had been involved, and Wen Xuan’s confession put both him and Shen Dao Chen on the list. He still felt it was old, petty stuff.
Wen Xuan wrote next about the Access Jade Token and many other times they ignored Shen Sang Ruo. In their eyes, none of these seemed like true debts, and they still did not feel they had wronged her.
When it was Feng He Yun’s turn, he steeled himself and wrote in the air that he had accidentally injured Shen Sang Ruo badly.
He raised his voice and said to her: “I am sorry.”
He thought she had been cold to him only because he sent Osmanthus Brew instead of apologizing in person. Now that he was throwing away his pride and apologizing seriously in front of so many people, she should stop being angry.
Shen Sang Ruo almost laughed. He still thought she had distanced herself only because he had hurt her. He did not think it was wrong that he had threatened her to watch his brewery or that he had made those so called jokes.
She did not care. That one injury alone was enough to make the world spit on him. All she wanted was a handle on each of the four.
Feng He Yun’s matter was known to both Master Ling Xiao and Shen Dao Chen.
When it came to Lu Shi Qing, he said nothing. Only his finger kept moving.
In the air he wrote that he should not have planted the Seven Emotions Gu on Shen Sang Ruo while she was in the Confinement Chamber to force her confession.
In his mind, the fault was that the Seven Emotions Gu changed feelings that should not have been changed, not that he had planted it on her at all.
Master Ling Xiao and Shen Dao Chen looked shocked when they read it. They knew what the Seven Emotions Gu was.
That cruel thing was meant for mortal enemies.
Lu Shi Qing had used it on his own Junior Sister, and she had been in the Confinement Chamber at the time.
No wonder Shen Sang Ruo’s nature changed after she came out.
Both men’s faces grew uglier, and Master Ling Xiao glared hard at Lu Shi Qing.
But Shen Sang Ruo was clearly not satisfied with what Lu Shi Qing wrote. She asked him: “That is all?”
Lu Shi Qing looked at her with a strange mix of pain and regret in his eyes, but he did nothing more.
Shen Sang Ruo’s voice stayed cool as she said: “How many times did you put the Seven Emotions Gu on me? Four years ago, you decided I had feelings I should not have for you, and you planted it on me for seven days and seven nights. A few months ago, you gave two Seven Emotions Gu to Luo Chu and had him use them on me. Lu Shi Qing, did you forget these?”
As she listed the events one by one, Master Ling Xiao and Shen Dao Chen looked worse and even more stunned. To use something so vicious on Shen Sang Ruo more than once, the Senior Brother who should have been the one she trusted most had become her nightmare.
Lu Shi Qing’s face turned pale as paper as he said: “Both times there were reasons…”
Shen Sang Ruo laughed, her eyes icy as if she had heard a joke, and said: “Reasons? The first time you used the Seven Emotions Gu on me just because you decided on your own that I liked you, then you did that to me and called it correction?”
