Chapter 32
Chapter 32: That Damn Old Man!
Du An Rao had no idea how worried the Du family was about her. After carefully going over everything that had happened recently, she also came up with a guess.
When she saw the light appear on Du He Xuan’s forehead, Jiang Huai Ying had just been arrested, and that person happened to be the one who caused Du He Xuan’s tragedy in the original story.
As for Yang Jian Tao, that went without saying. Although he was hurt and in the hospital, his wife and brother-in-law, who had taken the money and run in the original plot and left the father and daughter buried in debt and poverty, had already been caught and would soon face prison. The fate of that father and daughter had been completely rewritten.
[So does that mean that if I help these poor people change their fixed tragic fate, I can earn Accumulated Merit too? And because of that Accumulated Merit, I can see things normal people can’t?]
But this was only Du An Rao’s own guess. She still had to check if it was true. Right now, the most urgent problem was dealing with her fourth sister’s matter.
“Mom, does Fourth Sister’s school get weekends off?” she asked.
“There are days off. They get every weekend off. Why are you asking that?” Mother Du asked.
Du An Rao hooked her arm through Mother Du’s and grinned: “We’ve been here for more than a week. I kind of miss her. Can she come over this weekend and go out to play with me?”
Mother Du knew very well what Du An Rao really wanted, but to keep her from noticing, she pretended to be annoyed and said, “Is it not enough that I go with you?”
“Of course it is, but Fourth Sister is closer to my age, so there are some things we can play together better. Mom, just tell me yes or no?” Du An Rao said as she clung to Mother Du’s arm and acted spoiled.
As expected, Mother Du showed a helpless look that said she really could not do anything with her and nodded: “You can, but it depends on whether your Fourth Sister is willing to come.”
“Mom, you’re the best. I’ll go call Fourth Sister now.”
[Great. In a bit I’ll call Mr. Xi and ask him to take Fourth Sister and me to Xisheng Entertainment this weekend. Once they see Fourth Sister’s face, I refuse to believe the Li family can still stay unmoved.]
Right at that moment, it was like a bolt of thunder struck Du He Xuan, charring him inside and out. He immediately scowled and asked: “You and Xi Jing Yue are very close?”
“I wouldn’t say… very close,” she answered.
“Then how do you have his contact information?” he demanded.
Du An Rao’s eyes went wide: “Second Brother, how do you know I have Mr. Xi’s contact info?”
Father Du and Mother Du’s cold, sharp gazes snapped over to them. Cold sweat broke out on Du He Xuan’s back as he said: “I saw your phone screen.”
Du An Rao looked down and realized she had somehow pulled up Xi Jing Yue’s contact without even noticing.
“When did you two exchange contact info?” someone asked.
Du He Xuan just could not figure it out. These past few days he had been guarding her carefully and had barely let her out of his sight. How had that pig still found a chance to slip through?
“Oh, that,” Du An Rao said. “I ran into Mr. Xi in the bathroom at the hospital just now. He invited me to visit his cousin’s company.”
Du He Xuan was so mad it was like black smoke was rising from his back. He growled: “Why would he invite you to his cousin’s company for no reason? People who show kindness for nothing are either up to no good or thieves. You are not allowed to go.”
Father Du and Mother Du also felt that Xi Jing Yue’s move was a bit strange. But since the place he invited her to was exactly the Li family’s company, after thinking it over, they decided to wait and see.
Du An Rao was surprised by Du He Xuan’s sudden tough attitude, but after thinking it through, she decided to tell the truth.
After they learned that Xi Jing Yue had also been there the day Du An Rao did a character divination for Yang Jian Tao, and that he now wanted her to go to Xisheng Entertainment to do a feng shui reading for his cousin, even Du He Xuan was left speechless for once.
At this point, everyone also realized why Du An Rao suddenly wanted Du Yu Xi to come keep her company.
In fact, a few days earlier, Du Jun Yan had already sent them the information he had found about the Li family.
It was mostly the same as what Du An Rao had mentioned before. That made them even more sure that the Li family were the blood relatives truly tied to Du Yu Xi.
They had already planned to bring Du Yu Xi over in a few days, but before they could act, Du An Rao had already slipped into the other side’s “organization.”
The feeling of just lying there and getting pulled along like this was really hard to describe.
Seeing that Du He Xuan was about to object again, Father Du coughed lightly and gave in first: “You can go, but you have to bring more people.”
“I’ll have Fourth Sister go with me,” Du An Rao said.
“That still won’t do. You’re both girls. What if something happens…” Father Du began.
“It’s fine, really. Don’t worry. If something really does happen, I’ll protect Fourth Sister,” she said.
“That’s not…” Father Du started, then choked on his words. Thinking about his youngest daughter’s unscientific, miracle-working strength, he swallowed the rest.
So the matter was settled. Du An Rao happily ran off to contact Du Yu Xi, not noticing at all the pitiful, resentful look in her Second Brother’s eyes.
That afternoon, when Zhou Shun Zhe came to pick up Du He Xuan for a sudden work notice, Du He Xuan happened to get a call from his older brother.
“What’s going on? Since when did you and An An get that close with that man from the Xi family?” Du Jun Yan asked.
Du Jun Yan had just found out that Xi Jing Yue had played no small part behind the scenes in Jiang Huai Ying’s arrest. Then he heard from Du Yu Xi that Xi Jing Yue had invited the girls to visit the Li family’s agency.
With his sharp senses, he instantly felt that something was off and quickly called to ask what was happening.
As soon as this came up, Du He Xuan started grinding his teeth: “It wasn’t me, it was An An. I suspect that brat has his eye on An An!”
There was a long silence on the other end.
Just when Zhou Shun Zhe thought the person on the phone was also speechless because of his own entertainer’s jumpy, over-the-top reaction to every little thing, he suddenly heard teeth grinding through the phone and a familiar voice curse: “That damn old man!”
Du He Xuan nodded hard in agreement and did not feel there was anything wrong with that at all.
Zhou Shun Zhe: “…”
Wait. If he remembered right, Xi Jing Yue and his entertainer were about the same age. If Xi Jing Yue was an old man, then what were they?
It was the first time he had ever seen someone scold another person and drag himself into it too. He really did not understand these sister-obsessed brothers.
The night Du Yu Xi landed in City J, Du An Rao called Xi Jing Yue and set up a visit to Xisheng Entertainment for early the next morning.
That day, Du He Xuan happened to be tied up with work and could not get away. He could only glare flames from his eyes as he watched Xi Jing Yue personally drive over and pick up the two sisters.
The one in charge of receiving Du An Rao and the others was a young man in his early twenties. He wore a sharp black suit and was thin. A square pair of black-framed glasses sat on his face, and his long bangs hung over the frames and covered most of his eyes, making him look a bit gloomy.
“Hello, President Xi. President Li is still in a meeting. He asked me to bring you all to his office to wait. In about ten minutes, President Li’s meeting should be over,” the young man said.
Xi Jing Yue nodded to him, then turned to introduce him to the sisters: “This is my cousin’s assistant. His family name is Chen. You can just call him Assistant Chen.”
[Assistant? Last name Chen? Oh, so this is that sickly, possessive assistant who secretly has a crush on Fourth Sister’s cousin?]
