Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The Fourth Sister I Have Never Met
Mother Du sucked in a sharp breath and said through gritted teeth: “That is that. Since she did such a thing, there is no need to keep in touch with her in the future.”
Although Du An Rao was puzzled that Mother Du had changed her attitude so suddenly and so firmly, she still felt relieved for now and turned to look at Du Jun Yan, who had almost been dragged into trouble for nothing.
[Thinking about it, that night Bai Xiu Qing was alone with my brother for less than ten minutes. If there had been no camera in the room and she still refused to let go, trying to pin the child on my brother and use the media to pressure the Du Family, would my brother have had to pull the hallway camera footage from the hotel to clear his name? How many wild stories would the nosy people online make up then?]
[Men would be silent and women would cry. To prove his innocence, he actually admitted to this]
[Shocking! The Du Group heir has been single for years, and this is the reason]
[A man and woman alone in a room for ten minutes and there is a baby. Who is lying? Click to find out…]
Father Du and Mother Du: “Pff…”
The Du brother whose reputation had just been ruined: “…” In his heart, he wanted to yell at these little ancestors to please give it a rest.
Bai Xiu Qing’s appearance made Du An Rao take the Inner Library in her mind seriously again. After lunch, she found an excuse to go upstairs to “check some books”.
However, she did not know that right after she went upstairs, the others gathered together downstairs.
Looking at his parents’ rare serious faces, Du Jun Yan did not beat around the bush and said straight out: “I heard everything.”
Father Du raised his brows: “How much did you hear?”
“All of it.”
Mother Du also realized that Du Jun Yan was talking about the voice they had heard in the living room earlier. “The video…”
“I lied to her.”
It was surprising yet made sense. The couple went quiet for a moment, then went back to the main issue.
“We have to find out the truth about Bai Xiu Qing,” Father Du said. He still cared a lot about what Du An Rao had said about a father-killer and a ruined family.
Mother Du cared more about another matter: “Then about An An…”
Du Jun Yan knew what Mother Du was worried about, so he spoke first: “An An is my real sister. No matter what happens, I will do everything I can to protect her.”
Father Du glanced at his always steady oldest son and nodded in relief. “Do not tell An An about this yet, so she does not overthink it. Also, in the next few days, pay more attention. See if it is only us who can hear her or if other people can hear her too, and if there is any limit to the distance.”
The three of them reached an agreement on this. Du Jun Yan soon took action and started looking into the things Du An Rao had mentioned.
Bai Xiu Qing had been living abroad for the past few years, so checking on her would take some time.
But Du An Rao had also mentioned that Bai Xiu Qing had an inside man at Third Hospital who helped her change medical reports.
Du Jun Yan started from there and soon had some leads.
Early the next morning, just as Du An Rao came downstairs, she received a gift from her brother.
“What is this?”
“A meeting gift.”
Looking at the familiar card in Du Jun Yan’s hand, Du An Rao was even more confused: “Did you not already give me one yesterday?”
“That one was for living expenses. This one is pocket money.”
“…”
Pocket money and living expenses were given out separately? If she remembered right, the card from yesterday already had seven figures in it. From the way her brother sounded, this one probably had even more.
Was this how rich people showed their feelings, so plain and simple? It was crazy how rich he was.
Du An Rao was flattered and a little panicked: “There is no need. The one from yesterday is enough for me. I cannot spend that much money by myself.”
She said that, but Du Jun Yan was very firm about it. He kept a cool face, said nothing, and did not take the card back.
The two of them stood there like that, stuck. In the end, it was Mother Du who came over, took the card, and stuffed it straight into Du An Rao’s pocket.
“Your brother is giving it to you, so just take it. Every child in our family has one of these. You do not need to feel shy. We are going out to shop today anyway, so we will use this card.”
Du Jun Yan quietly let out a breath of relief: “Mm. If it is not enough, call me.”
Their open care and favoritism made a strange feeling rise in Du An Rao’s heart, something she had never felt before. It felt strange, but she did not dislike it.
Since she was four years old, Du An Rao had lived in a temple on the mountain. She was not completely cut off from the world, but resources there were limited.
She had not brought much with her when she came down the mountain this time. Before she came back, Mother Du had already asked people to send many things to the house, but she still wanted to take Du An Rao out herself, to help her get used to her new life faster and fit into life in the city.
Mother Du took Du An Rao to a high-end mall nearby. It had five floors, and every floor was filled with different kinds of luxury stores.
Du An Rao followed Mother Du from the first floor to the third. They bought clothes, jewelry, shoes, and bags. At first, she felt it was all new and fun. In the end, she was just numb.
She finally made it to noon. Mother Du happily decided to stop for now and took Du An Rao into a Western restaurant on the fourth floor.
They had just finished ordering when a strange, mocking female voice suddenly came from the next table: “No wonder you looked so familiar. It is Miss Du. Is the Du Family going bankrupt? Did they really let their only precious daughter come work as a waiter in this cheap little restaurant?”
“Oh right, look at my memory. The Du Family already found their real daughter by blood. Of course this fake young lady would get kicked out and have to sneak away with her tail between her legs.”
Du Family, real and fake young lady… it was not hard to guess who they were talking about.
Du An Rao had been tired and listless from all the shopping, but now she sat up at once and turned toward the voice.
Before she could think more, she heard Mother Du, who was sitting across from her, call out in shock: “Yu Xi…”
[Confirmed! This is the fourth sister who moved out before I even met her.]
Mother Du: “…”
Not far away, Du Yu Xi, whose face had gone cold from being mocked, frowned a little. “???” What was that sound?
Ye Meng Zhen had grabbed this chance to mock her rival hard and felt so happy about it.
But when she saw that Du Yu Xi still did not react much and kept that cold, untouchable look, like a flower on a high mountain, the anger in her heart flared up again.
“I heard the real Miss of the Du Family was found in some remote temple on a mountain in Y Province. She has never even gone to school, just a rude, brainless country bumpkin. Having someone like that take your place as the Du Family’s eldest young lady, are you not super bitter about it?”
“But so what if you are bitter? She is the real flesh and blood of the Du Family. Even if she is stupid, she still gets all of their protection. And you, so what if you are talented? In the end, you can only be some low-level waiter, serving food and bowing and scraping for a living.”
Inside, the so-called idiot and loser fish could only think: “…” [We have not even met yet, and you are already putting in so much effort on me. I am really so sorry.]
“Ye Meng Zhen, you are going too far!” Before this, Du Yu Xi had only kept a cold face while being mocked. Now, hearing this, she finally could not hold it in anymore.
“If you have a problem, come at me. It has nothing to do with her. She turned out like this because of me and because of my parents. But that does not mean you can mock and laugh at the hardships she went through.”
