Chapter 103
Chapter 103: Get Down
The Grand Sect Tournament would be held on a high peak on the Northern Slope of the Qinling Range, Mount Shouyang.
With the speed of Sword Flight, nearby sects could reach it in half a day. Farther sects might have to fly for three days and three nights. To be safe, many sects set out early. So as the tournament neared, the towns around Mount Shouyang grew very lively. Young faces filled the streets. Among these crowds, one five-person team drew a lot of attention.
They sat at the door of a small noodle shop and had already put away over one hundred bowls of saozi noodles. And more than seventy free-range chickens. They gulped down a chicken in one bite, so fast it was hard to watch without blinking.
The noodle shop owners were a couple. They stopped taking other customers and cooked only for the five. They even called their relatives to help, but they were still barely keeping up.
“Delicious,” the green-robed girl said half a day later as she set down her bowl with a satisfied sigh.
The white-robed girl smiled and asked: “Senior sister, do you want more?”
The green-robed girl hesitated, then said: “Let’s save some room and try other places.”
“Alright,” the white-robed girl said.
People nearby did the count. Three hundred forty seven bowls of noodles. Two hundred eighteen chickens. There were five people, but more than half went into the green-robed girl’s stomach. The bill was all paid by the white-robed girl. She set down a small chest of gold, enough for that family to live well for a lifetime.
The couple were scared out of their wits: “Miss, this is too much.”
The white-robed girl smiled and said: “It’s not too much. Thank you for your hard work.”
She turned and called: “Senior sister, let’s go.”
The five left, strolling down the street, while the nervous couple stood in the doorway and watched.
Fang He An praised Ye Wan Wan’s planning as they walked: “Junior sister is smart. You brought us to a mortal city first. If we went straight to Zhou Town, we might not be able to eat like this. One Spirit Stone can be exchanged in the Spirit Market for a chest of gold. What a deal.”
These five were none other than Ye Wan Wan’s group, who had set out early. Li Wan Zhi nodded in agreement: “The people here are so honest.”
Shen Nan Zhou let out a short laugh and said: “You just haven’t seen how evil people can be.”
Li Wan Zhi turned his head away. “I don’t want to talk to you. Annoying.”
Ye Wan Wan said gently: “Mortal food is cheap, but don’t be greedy, senior brother and senior sister. Just try a bit for the taste.”
Fang He An rubbed his stomach and said: “That’s true. Spiritual food still has energy we can absorb. Regular food satisfies a craving, but we have to circulate our power to burn it off.”
He sighed and added: “Still, it’s so good.”
Ye Wan Wan had prepared for that. She took out a bottle of pills and said: “These are Digestive Pills. If you want to eat, eat. Take a pill after.”
Before Fang He An could reach for it, Li Wan Zhi grabbed the bottle first. He was moved to tears and said: “Waaah, junior sister is the best. What would we do without you?”
“Give me one,” Fang He An said flatly.
“Beg me,” Li Wan Zhi sing-songed.
“I’m going to hit you,” Fang He An warned.
They chased each other ahead. Ye Wan Wan walked with Bai Jian, studying jewelry at a stall. Shen Nan Zhou said nothing, staying quietly at their side.
A flash of sword light suddenly cut across the sky far above. People around them shouted.
“It’s immortals!”
“So many immortals!”
The cries rolled down the street, making many look up. Even Fang He An and Li Wan Zhi stopped and stared at the lights crossing overhead.
“That’s odd,” Fang He An frowned, “Don’t they know flying is banned inside the city?”
Every disciple of a major sect was taught on day one: do not fight inside a city, and never harm mortals. But this did not look like normal flying. It looked like a chase.
The person in front was fleeing. Three or four people chased behind, yelling: “Stop right there!”
The one in front yelled back: “Come at me if you dare!”
Another voice roared: “You’re courting death!”
Ye Wan Wan and Bai Jian looked up as well. A blast of sword light dropped from the sky and smashed into the two-story teahouse right next to them. An explosion boomed. Screams followed.
Fang He An and Li Wan Zhi both went pale. “They’re insane,” Fang He An hissed. “Fighting in the city!”
Shen Nan Zhou stepped in front of the two girls the moment he saw the attack. The teahouse had already caught fire. Burning planks tumbled down. People jumped from the second floor. The lively street turned into chaos, full of terrified cries.
Ye Wan Wan frowned. [Xuan Tian Sect?]
Bai Jian rushed forward, scooped up guests leaping from the second floor, and started saving people one by one. Ye Wan Wan did not hesitate. She raised a palm and pulled the flames together, gathering the fire into a tight ball in her hand. Stepping into the crowd, she tapped a glow of spirit light onto the foreheads of the injured mortals.
Light flowed. Wounds knit closed in a blink.
Shen Nan Zhou kept pace beside Bai Jian. The three of them quickly stabilized the scene. Seeing this, the fleeing youth glanced over and actually darted their way, shouting: “Fellow daoist, save me!”
Ye Wan Wan lifted her eyes, her gaze turning cold. Bai Jian didn’t waste a breath. She punched and barked: “Get lost!”
Her fist wind slammed into the incoming flying sword. The blade veered, shot backward, and crashed into the street, kicking up dust and leaving a deep pit.
The youth stared, dumbfounded. He hadn’t expected Bai Jian to act the instant she spoke.
The four in pursuit stopped when they saw this. They looked at each other, then turned their eyes to Bai Jian and Ye Wan Wan’s group. One called out: “Which sect are you from?”
Bai Jian frowned, swept her eyes over them, and said unhappily: “Bad people.”
She looked at the youth climbing out of the pit and repeated: “All of you are bad.”
The disciples in gold-trimmed blue uniforms scowled. “Watch your mouth,” one snapped. “We greeted you, and you start by calling us names?”
Ye Wan Wan stepped in front of Bai Jian and gave a thin smile: “Did my senior sister say anything wrong? Disciples of Xuan Tian Sect, since when do you ignore the rules and start fights in a mortal city? If the Alliance elders hear of this, will they say Xuan Tian Sect teaches poorly and cannot control its disciples?”
At her words, Qin Fu An’s face darkened. Seeing his senior brothers’ faces go ugly too, he pointed at Ye Wan Wan and threatened: “I’m warning you, don’t meddle in Xuan Tian Sect business! Hand that man over to us, then get lost!”
“I spit on that,” Li Wan Zhi shouted as he jumped out with hands on hips. “You hurt people, and my senior sister and junior sister are here saving them and cleaning up your mess. You’re ungrateful and you dare threaten us? What trash! Get down here and kowtow to your grandfather!”
“You’re seeking death,” Qin Fu An roared.
He formed a seal with his hands, power gathering. But before the technique could take shape, the figure on the ground was already gone. When the four blinked and looked around, Ye Wan Wan stood behind them.
Their faces changed at once. When did she get there!
