Chapter 67
Chapter 67: His fingers brushed over the pattern on the invitation
“Little Fu, you’re really kind-hearted,” Jiang Shi Yue sighed dramatically before Song Jun Hao could even speak. “A living saint. Seriously, a living saint come down to earth!”
Song Jun Hao: Shut up, woman! That kind of emotionless flattery isn’t going to make Second Young Master happy.
Fu Qing Han’s gaze stayed calm. He slowly and neatly adjusted his cuff. “Miss Jiang flatters me. Fu is not some philanthropist.”
As he spoke, he reached out his hand.
Song Jun Hao understood at once and immediately presented a pearl-white invitation with both hands, respectful to the point of reverence.
His fingers brushed over the pattern on the invitation, and he spoke with a half-smile. “Miss Jiang, our invitation has arrived.”
“Then we can lie in wait,” Jiang Shi Yue said, her eyes sweeping over the words on the invitation. She drew out her tone. “Looks like if it weren’t for Second Young Master Fu’s help, I wouldn’t have had the chance to attend Miss Zhou’s birthday banquet.”
Fu Qing Han smiled faintly. His voice was still cold, like snow that never melted. His gaze lowered slightly, and no extra emotion showed. “Since the Zhou Family is so eager for us to come, then we shouldn’t disappoint their good intentions.”
—
The day after tomorrow was the birthday banquet for the Zhou Family’s Third Miss, Zhou Ling. Jiang Shi Yue lay on the bed in her room, bored out of her mind as she wound that faint wisp of mental power around her finger.
In less than ten days since crossing into this Parallel Time-Space, so many things had happened. Jiang Shi Yue curled her lips and made that wisp of mental power vanish into the air.
Suddenly, someone knocked at her door. The knock was respectful, but hurried. Jiang Shi Yue opened it to find a servant from the house.
The servant spoke in a low voice. “Second Young Master Fu sent people over. He’s asking you to come downstairs, Miss.”
It was as if she had never seen such a scene before. Her face even carried a kind of uncertain shock.
Jiang Shi Yue looked down from the second floor. Six men in black suits and white gloves stood in the living room. Their faces were blank, but you could already feel a presence that could not be ignored.
At the front stood an elderly man with graying hair. His bearing was even steadier and more imposing. You could tell he was the one in charge among them. Beside him stood a tall young woman who looked sharp and capable.
Other than them, there were Jiang Mei Ling and Chen Xue Ru. Jiang Meng Qing only took one look before his face turned iron-blue, and he went to his study.
Chen Xue Ru sat on the sofa, her expression as calm and gentle as always. She waved at Jiang Shi Yue, signaling her to come down. “Shi Yue, they rushed over all the way from the Imperial Capital just for this.”
Jiang Mei Ling clenched her fingers hard. She was unwilling, but there was nothing she could do, so she could only turn her gaze away in a sulky huff.
Still, she secretly glanced at her mother. Her mother was smiling so gently, and her tone was affectionate, as if she felt honored by association.
Jiang Mei Ling felt deeply uncomfortable. But she suddenly remembered that slap, and the words and expression her mother had worn back then. Panic rose in her, and she lowered her head, making sure no one-especially her mother-could see anything strange.
Her mother’s contrast was too extreme. Jiang Mei Ling could not accept it. And afterward, her mother had never explained anything to her, which made Jiang Mei Ling unable to tell which face was real.
Jiang Mei Ling’s thoughts were a mess, mixed with an irritating, jealous hatred.
