Chapter 60
Chapter 60: Not a Coincidence. This Restaurant Just Happens to Be My Business Too
The restaurant fell into silence. Old Master Jiang shot Zhou Tong He a glare, as if to say that Second Young Master Fu had already spoken, so he should hurry up and get lost instead of standing there in the way. Zhou Tong He swept Old Master Jiang with a disdainful glance and cursed inwardly, [You old fogey living off someone else’s power. Just wait – once I get the chance, I’ll make you pay.]
Zhou Tong He knew when to bend. He carefully bade Fu Qing Han goodbye with utmost respect. Fu Qing Han’s expression stayed calm and noncommittal, and Zhou Tong He didn’t dare hope for a reply. He backed away a few steps and hurried off.
Old Master Jiang was a bit pleased, but his heart also crawled with fear. He didn’t know how much Fu Qing Han had heard – his attitude toward Jiang Shi Yue, and what he had said.
So he tugged Old Madam Jiang along and put on a loving face as he greeted Jiang Shi Yue and Fu Qing Han. Jiang Shi Yue’s lips curled, and she gave Old Master Jiang a meaningful glance.
Then she looked away as if nothing had happened.
Yet that single glance somehow made the old master feel a chill down his back. He hurried away with the old madam.
With the restaurant cleared out, it became extremely quiet. Fu Qing Han flipped the menu with his fingers, his knuckles like jade. He asked patiently, “Miss Jiang, is there anything you want to eat?”
Jiang Shi Yue didn’t answer and instead asked with a smiling face, “What did Second Young Master Fu mean today? Your timing was too perfect, wasn’t it?”
“Not a coincidence. This restaurant just happens to be one of my businesses.” Fu Qing Han’s fingers moved steadily over several dishes. The attendant had been waiting nearby since Fu Qing Han picked up the menu, and now took it carefully and left with deep respect.
Fu Qing Han leaned lazily against the chair back and smiled faintly. “I heard Miss Jiang ran into a little trouble. It was just a small favor.”
“This wasn’t just a small favor.” Jiang Shi Yue sighed, yet her tone sounded like she was watching a show. “You’ve already become my suitor. This news will spread across all of C City in no time.”
“I need a female companion, someone who can attend certain places with me openly and properly.” Fu Qing Han let out a low laugh, his voice unhurried. “And Miss Jiang is the best choice right now. You and I cooperating is hardly a bad thing for Miss Jiang.”
“That’s true.” Thinking of Zhou Tong He and the look on their faces, Jiang Shi Yue curled her lips in disdain. Then she asked curiously, “Little Fu, why not say I’m your girlfriend? Wouldn’t that be more convenient? Are you afraid it’ll affect your reputation?”
Fu Qing Han’s gaze stayed light. His long fingers idly brushed the cup. “I don’t care that much about reputation. It’s just that if we keep up an act for too long, it might not benefit Miss Jiang. And right now, if you ever want to leave, you can do as you please.”
Fu Qing Han was right. Courting was like an unsigned contract – either side could back out at any time. But being a girlfriend was different. There were many more problems, and breaking up would be a hassle.
It might not matter to Fu Qing Han, but it would probably cause trouble for Jiang Shi Yue.
“Little Fu, you really considered everything.” Jiang Shi Yue gave a thumbs-up, looking completely sincere. Then her tone turned, and she asked suddenly, “You didn’t come today just to save me, right? There should be something else.”
Fu Qing Han waved a hand, signaling the attendant to keep playing the violin. The music was graceful, but their topic was anything but soft.
