Chapter 42
Chapter 42: Li Na, Did You Have a Nightmare?
Song Li Na slept very uneasily tonight. Her mind almost couldn’t stop replaying what happened more than twenty years ago. It was like a knife carving into her heart, cut after cut.
That kind of tearing pain was frighteningly real.
It was all Shen Mo’s fault, forcing her!
Song Li Na instantly clenched her fingers hard, and the hatred in her eyes surged like a tidal wave, tangling together with the night.
Why would Mu Yan like her? Why?
She had grown up with him since childhood, yet he liked that Shen Mo whose parents had both died.
He even pretended to be a poor student working part-time delivering milk for her sake.
He was the young master of the Mu Family. How could he do something so humiliating and ridiculous?
She liked him so much, but he wouldn’t even look at her properly.
Why!
That sentence Jiang Shi Yue said during the day suddenly surfaced in her mind again: “It’s not that retribution won’t come. It’s that the time hasn’t arrived.”
What did Jiang Shi Yue mean?
She was clearly just a young girl. How could she possibly know about what happened more than twenty years ago?
Had she been overthinking it?
The bedroom was very quiet. Song Li Na’s husband Zhao Wen De had probably gone to the bathroom. The bedroom only had her in it now, and because of that, her fear was endlessly amplified. She covered her face with her hands, trying her best to suppress the fear swelling without limit inside her.
Just then, Zhao Wen De finally returned to the bedroom. Only then did Song Li Na let out a breath of relief. She touched her forehead. At some point, it was covered in fine cold sweat.
Tonight’s darkness was especially heavy. She could only vaguely make out her husband’s figure as he walked toward the bed.
“Old Zhao.” Song Li Na called out in a low voice, like she had grabbed onto her anchor.
But Zhao Wen De didn’t respond. He lifted the blanket and lay down on the bed as if nothing concerned him.
Song Li Na felt a bit annoyed. She spoke unhappily, “Old Zhao, why aren’t you saying anything?”
Zhao Wen De lay beside her, but he still didn’t speak, as if he didn’t want to pay her any attention at all.
Song Li Na’s nerves were already on the verge of collapse, and her husband’s pointless, inexplicable ignoring pushed her completely over the edge. She suddenly flipped over and sat up, turned on the bedside night lamp, and cursed, “What the hell are you-”
Her voice cut off abruptly, because she saw that the side of the bed was actually empty.
There was no Zhao Wen De at all…
The air was very still. The dim yellow light lit up one corner of the bedroom, but the corner still seemed swallowed by night, as if something were quietly watching her.
Song Li Na’s face turned deathly pale. In that instant, she completely broke down. A shriek burst uncontrollably from her throat.
At that moment, the bedroom door was shoved open, and Zhao Wen De stood in the doorway, confused. “What’s wrong with you?”
Song Li Na screamed hysterically, “There’s a ghost! There really is a ghost!”
Zhao Wen De hurried over. “Li Na, did you have a nightmare?”
“She’s back, she’s back, she’s coming to take revenge on me!” Song Li Na babbled incoherently. She curled up tightly in a corner, clutching her head, her body shaking violently.
“Sigh.” Zhao Wen De let out a breath. “The person you’re talking about… is that me?”
Song Li Na froze. Stiffly, slowly, and yet uncontrollably, she lifted her head.
Time stretched long, as if it had been locked in place at this very moment.
