Chapter 35
Chapter 35: Came Knocking (Bonus Chapter)
Jiang Zi Chen had been causing trouble at South City Villa all night. He did not get up until noon the next day, but when he finally did, he saw there was a visitor at home.
It was the person he hated most – Zhao Lan Lan’s mother, Song Li Na.
Zhao Lan Lan was Jiang Mei Ling’s close friend, so Song Li Na often came to the Jiang Family as a guest because of that.
But every time they met, she would look at him with that hopeless, contemptuous stare.
As if he were some rotten flower of the motherland.
Thinking of that, Jiang Zi Chen rolled his eyes and turned back to his bedroom.
Even a female ghost was friendlier than Song Li Na.
Song Li Na came from a scholarly family and was now a university professor. She looked far more cultured than Chen Xue Ru, and her whole manner carried an indescribable, refined grace.
So studying really was an investment that never lost money.
She usually did not like being called “Mrs. Zhao.” Instead, she preferred hearing people call her “Professor Song.”
“Professor Song, what brings you here today?” Chen Xue Ru smiled gently and warmly. She lifted a hand and had the servant come over to pour tea.
To be honest, Song Li Na looked down on Chen Xue Ru from the bottom of her heart. Without a pretty face, she would be nothing. She served men with her looks, stepped in dog crap luck, and shot straight to the top, which was how she managed to marry Jiang Meng Qing.
But even if she looked down on her in her heart, she still had to keep up appearances. She smiled slightly and spoke with restrained grace. “Madam Jiang, I heard that your Shi Yue and Mei Ling attended a gathering with my daughter yesterday, but since Lan Lan came home last night, something has been off with her. Do you know what happened?”
Her tone was calm, yet it was clearly a questioning, interrogating tone.
Chen Xue Ru felt a little annoyed. This Song Li Na relied on having some education, and she always acted fake and high-minded, putting on airs.
Her fingers lightly traced the bracelet on her wrist. It was fine jade, making her skin look even fairer and more translucent. She smiled and said, “Listen to you. Kids sometimes have little spats, and there’s nothing we can do about that. But Mei Ling and Lan Lan are as close as biological sisters. If Lan Lan is in a bad mood, Mei Ling practically wants to feel it with her. And Shi Yue is kind by nature – how could she possibly provoke Lan Lan?”
Zhao Lan Lan was arrogant and overbearing, and Shi Yue was not only useless and timid, but also the one who was always bullied.
Chen Xue Ru knew it perfectly well.
“Mrs. Jiang, you really don’t know what happened? Our Lan Lan has been crying ever since she got home. She was with your two kids the whole time yesterday.” Seeing the way Chen Xue Ru was showing off on purpose, Song Li Na’s expression darkened slightly, and her voice gained a bit of impatience.
“Don’t make things hard for Aunt Ru. I know what happened.” A girl’s calm yet clear voice suddenly rang out from the stairway.
Jiang Shi Yue strolled over slowly. Sunlight fell on her skin, giving it a porcelain-like smoothness. She lifted her brows, her voice crisp and pleasant to the ear. “I did her a huge favor yesterday, and she even said she would come to thank me in person. So what is it – she didn’t come?”
“A favor? What did you help with?” Song Li Na frowned slightly. She sized up Jiang Shi Yue without leaving a trace. To be honest, even though she often visited the Jiang Family, she could count on one hand the times she had seen Jiang Shi Yue. In her eyes, Jiang Shi Yue had no presence in the Jiang Family, just a weak, sickly coward.
