Chapter 27
Chapter 27: South City Villa (5)
When they first turned off their flashlights, they couldn’t adjust to the darkness. After a few minutes, their vision gradually became clearer. The villa’s living room was huge, but with all the furniture covered in white sheets, it didn’t feel empty. Yet because of that, there was a strange, unexplainable eerie feeling.
But the one who was most scared wasn’t them. It was Chen Ze. He hid alone in the kitchen, but he didn’t dare turn on his flashlight. He trembled by himself, and the only comfort he had was clutching the flashlight tighter against his chest.
In his heart, he cursed Han Xi Ping and the others’ ancestors for eighteen generations. Why did they make him play the ghost? Was there still any brotherhood left?
But why still wasn’t Jiang Shi Yue coming out?
Should he go out and take a look himself?
…
Han Xi Ping saw Chen Ze walk out of the kitchen, quiet and silent, not making a single sound. His feet rubbed against the floor, yet his steps were light.
Long black hair hung messily over his face.
Step by step, step by step.
He walked toward them.
Honestly, even though they knew it was Chen Ze, they still felt their skin crawl. That damp, chilly feeling seemed to scrape across their skin, stirring their hearts into wild pounding.
Chen Ze got closer and closer.
Han Xi Ping was just about to speak, wanting to send him back.
But Chen Ze’s mouth suddenly split into a smile. His long hair covered his face, so his features weren’t clear. They only saw that the curve of his smile was strange and stiff, as if something was pulling it into place.
But the eye showing through the gap in his hair was opened wide, not blinking at all.
He was smiling, but there wasn’t even a hint of a smile in his eyes. Instead, they were unnaturally cold and sinister.
Chen Ze spoke. He only said a few words…
“He” said, “I see you.”
But at this exact moment, what came out of “his” throat was actually a woman’s voice!
Hoarse, and carrying a terrifying, vicious resentment.
As he spoke, “he” let out a giggle. That eerie laughter sounded right by their ears. A cold sensation brushed past their ears, like falling into an ice pit.
The air stayed silent for three seconds. Han Xi Ping screamed first. His face turned deathly pale. His legs went weak, and he collapsed onto the floor, both legs trembling as his feet slid on the boards.
Meng Han Chen and Liu Zi Yan tried to pull Han Xi Ping up, but they had no strength at all. Their legs didn’t listen, and they slumped down too. Watching Chen Ze close in step by step, they instinctively scooted backward with their hands – but the next second, their eyes rolled back, and they actually fainted from fright.
As for Lin Cheng Yi, the first thought that popped into his head at that moment was:
[The chance of seeing a ghost is lower than the chance of getting back together, but if I’ve seen a ghost, doesn’t that mean getting back together is possible?]
Then he fainted too.
…
The bathroom door was pushed open right then. Jiang Shi Yue stood in the doorway. She spun the flashlight in her hand, then snapped it off.
She stood quietly, not speaking.
And “Chen Ze,” with his back to her, didn’t move either.
Jiang Zi Chen didn’t know where he got the courage, but he shouted at Jiang Shi Yue, “Are you stupid? Run!”
His legs felt as heavy as lead, but he still forced them to move. He ran toward Jiang Shi Yue like a madman, wanting to pull her and escape together. But he ran too fast and tripped over Lin Cheng Yi, who was passed out on the floor, and his body flew out of control, slamming hard toward the ground.
