Chapter 25: South City Villa (3)

But what they could see from the window was limited. If they wanted to clearly understand the room layout, they still had to go inside the villa.

The temperature at night was a few degrees colder than in the daytime, and on top of that, the wind blew in, making the weeds give off a sound like something rubbing.

Chen Ze was timid. In a low voice, he said to Jiang Zi Chen, “Your sister’s got guts. I don’t think pretending to be a ghost will scare her. Let’s go home.”

Jiang Zi Chen also felt that Jiang Shi Yue was pretty brave, but if she was brave, then he had to be even braver. He rolled his eyes at Chen Ze. “If you’re scared, then leave. If you’re a man, stay.”

“It’s fine. There are no ghosts in this world. People just scare themselves.” Han Xi Ping had always wanted to steal Jiang Zi Chen’s spot and become the boss of their six-person crew. When he saw Jiang Zi Chen snap at Chen Ze, he immediately felt like this was a chance to win people over. Like a good brother, he threw an arm around Chen Ze. “Later, do it according to the plan. We’re counting on you.”

After he said that, Chen Ze suddenly felt like he was carrying a huge responsibility. He struggled for a moment, but didn’t say anything and silently accepted that the plan would go on.

The others felt uneasy too, but they didn’t want to leave either. At a moment like this, whoever backed down would truly have no face left to show in their circles.

But Lin Cheng Yi, among the six-person crew, was even more Zen than the rest of them.

The Zen-type young man Lin Cheng Yi was the first to push open the door. In his heart, a bold question popped up.

The door wasn’t locked. The moment it opened, they heard a rotten creak, long and drawn out in the quiet air.

Seven flashlight beams shone neatly into the hall together. In a room that had been empty for years, dust swirled in the light, bringing a sharp, stinging smell.

Jiang Zi Chen covered his nose and instinctively edged closer to Jiang Shi Yue.

They walked in. The villa’s layout was pretty standard. The first floor was probably the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a sitting room. The second floor was likely bedrooms, a study, and rooms like that.

All seven of them stood in the living room now. Not far away were the stairs, and going up them would take you to the second floor.

Han Xi Ping said, “Sister Shi Yue, Chen Ze and I will clear the way for you and take a look upstairs.”

Jiang Shi Yue twirled the flashlight in her hand and said with a sweet smile, “Thank you. I really don’t dare go up to the second floor.”

Everyone fell silent.

When you say you don’t dare, at least put some effort into it.

Han Xi Ping and Chen Ze grinned and, in a flash, scampered up the stairs like monkeys.

Meng Han Chen suggested, “Sister Shi Yue, let’s check the other rooms first. We’ll meet up with Xi Ping and the others in a bit.”

Jiang Shi Yue nodded. She scanned the surroundings and said slowly, “There are exactly five rooms on the first floor. Let’s split up to save time.”

Actually, Jiang Zi Chen and the others had wanted Jiang Shi Yue to act alone in the first place, but when she said it out loud, it suddenly felt like there was some kind of conspiracy to it.
