Chapter 100
Chapter 100: Letter to My Wife (8)
Jiang Shi Yue held a silk umbrella. It was as if she were strolling at leisure while admiring the scenery, walking along at an unhurried pace.
The rain fell in a fine, endless thread. Even with the umbrella shielding her, Jiang Shi Yue’s shoulders still got wet, and a faint chill seeped through her damp clothes into her skin, growing colder and colder.
But Jiang Shi Yue seemed not to notice at all. She did not shift the umbrella even a little, and she even let the fine, dense rain soak her clothes.
Because she saw Young Master Cheng taking shelter from the rain in a nearby pavilion, and he seemed to be holding a stack of photos, studying them carefully.
Jiang Shi Yue’s eyes curved slightly. She swayed her silk umbrella and walked straight toward Young Master Cheng, her gaze naturally falling on what he held.
“Young Master Cheng, are those photographs? Can I take a look? I’ve never seen photographs before.” Jiang Shi Yue asked shyly, her voice a little nervous.
Young Master Cheng did not commit either way. He simply smiled gently and handed the photos to Jiang Shi Yue. “I don’t take photos often in daily life either. It’s just that this time, Zi Yu and I agreed to exchange photographs, so I wanted to pick one from among them. If Miss Xiu Xiu has time, you can help me give some advice as well.”
Jiang Shi Yue smiled bashfully and looked down at the stack of photos in her hands.
They were black-and-white photos, and the faces did not seem that clear.
Seeing them, that old, timeworn feeling finally rushed at her head-on.
Jiang Shi Yue pulled a single photo out from the stack.
It was a group photo, probably taken many years ago. The edges were even a little worn.
Beside the tall, slender Young Master Cheng stood the graceful Miss Cheng.
In a fitted little jacket, the young lady lowered her head in shy modesty.
In a long robe of blue cloth, the young man’s brows and eyes looked gentle and soft.
And on the back of the photo, there was even a line of foreign words written in fountain pen.
Jiang Shi Yue stared wide-eyed in curiosity, looking like she wanted to ask but did not dare to. She struggled with it for a moment, then asked softly, “Young Master Cheng, what does this mean?”
Young Master Cheng slowly took the photo back, lowering his eyes as he looked at it. He smiled faintly and explained with great patience, “This was taken on little sister’s birthday last year. It’s nothing more than words wishing her a happy birthday.”
Jiang Shi Yue nodded as if she half understood. She gave a small, embarrassed laugh. “Young Master Cheng, you’re really amazing. You can even read foreign writing. To me, it just looks like ghost scribbles.”
Young Master Cheng seemed amused, looking a bit helpless. But just then, a servant suddenly came running in a hurry and whispered something in his ear. He stood up and gave Jiang Shi Yue an apologetic smile. “Miss Xiu Xiu, if you feel bored, you can have the servants in the residence accompany you around for a stroll. I still have matters to handle, so I won’t be able to keep you company.”
“Please go ahead. I won’t disturb you,” Jiang Shi Yue said.
Watching his back as he left, Jiang Shi Yue let out a long sigh.
Studying really was an investment that never lost money.
Happy birthday, my foot. That was just playing games with idiots.
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Could I compare you to the brilliance of a summer day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
You were sweeter and more tender than the blazing summer.
Taste it. Really taste it. How was this Miss Cheng’s one-sided wishful thinking? It was probably mutual love.
Then what was Miss Zi Yu supposed to be?
Was this nothing more than the story of a heartless man?
Holding her umbrella, Jiang Shi Yue left the pavilion at an unhurried pace.
Soon, she stopped again. She paused at a corner and completely hid her figure.
She heard a young girl sobbing softly.
