Chapter 10: I Suspect She’s Mocking Me, but I Can’t Find Proof

Jiang Mei Ling was also a pretty girl, clear and innocent. Her brows and eyes inherited a bit of Chen Xue Ru’s softness, like a lily slowly blooming.

Jiang Shi Yue almost wanted to laugh. Her memories told her that no matter what Jiang Mei Ling said, she would never argue back. She would only take it and endure.

When she lifted her eyes again, she already looked like she was on the verge of tears. Her eyes shimmered with water, and she clutched her fingers tightly as she looked at Jiang Shi Yue with a mix of pleading and apology.

Jiang Zi Chen, who had been silent the whole time, gave a scornful snort and turned to go upstairs.

Chen Xue Ru hurried to smooth things over when she saw Jiang Meng Qing getting angry. Her voice was gentle as she said, “Meng Qing, don’t yell at the child. Love is free now. There’s nothing wrong with knowing a few boys. It just means our Shi Yue is pretty and cute, with lots of suitors.”

As she spoke, she patted Jiang Meng Qing’s chest to calm him down, her soft hand neither too light nor too heavy.

But it did not calm him at all. It only made him blow up even more. “The Zhou Family’s eldest young master has taken a liking to her and wants to become in-laws with us, but she’s still messing around with other men, all unclear and dirty. She even makes herself cheap. How am I supposed to face the Zhou Family later!”

“Mei Ling, in this whole month, today was the only day I went out. I just wanted to go see my brother. How could I go play with a bunch of boys?” Jiang Shi Yue finally spoke, her voice still clear and soft. No matter how harsh her words were, she sounded harmless, like there was nothing to pick at. “Honestly, I envy you. You have so many guy friends, and they all like you so much. Unlike me. I’m too withdrawn, and nobody wants to spend time with me.”

Jiang Mei Ling froze. Tears spun in her eyes, but they did not fall. She was caught off guard. She had not expected Jiang Shi Yue to stop taking it lying down like she always did.

Instead, she answered lightly, and you couldn’t find a flaw because her tone was too gentle, too sincere.

Her face tightened, but for a moment she did not know how to argue back. A flicker of hatred flashed through her eyes, yet she could only say timidly, “Sister, I got worried and panicked. Don’t be mad.”

Then she looked at Jiang Meng Qing, whose face was dark, and spoke with a bright smile. “Dad, I know you’re doing this for my own good. She seemed to put a little extra weight on the words “upright and faithful.”
