Chapter 83
Chapter 83: Her Own Weaknesses
After seeing their movements, Yun Xi pretended to be scared and took a step back. “Fellow Daoists, why are you following this young woman?”
The other one spoke up. “Do you really need to ask? If you know what’s good for you, hand over your storage bag. We can spare your life. Otherwise, don’t blame us for being rude.”
This was an open threat.
Yun Xi pretended to be frightened and retreated another step, entering the area covered by her array plate. She kept up a bluffing front and said, “I’m a disciple of the Hao Ran Sect. Don’t be too arrogant!”
“Hmph! We’re robbing you sect disciples!” the other man shouted. He formed hand seals and launched a water spike at Yun Xi.
Yun Xi tilted her head to dodge, then turned and ran. The two chased without hesitation, but the moment they stepped into the array’s area, Yun Xi vanished from their sight. They realized something was wrong and stopped at once.
“She actually dared to set us up!”
“As expected, she’s a fat lamb. We have to take her down!”
“Of course. Brother Xia, hurry and release your Trail-Seeking Rat. See where she’s hiding!”
“Fine!”
The cultivator called Brother Xia pulled a white mouse with a pair of black ears from his clothes without hesitation. It was exactly the Trail-Seeking Rat the other man mentioned. That was also the reason Yun Xi had been unable to shake them.
Yun Xi, who was controlling the array plate, understood immediately. She used the array to split the two apart. Then she raised her sword and faced the one who had chased her first, leaving the Xia-surnamed cultivator behind.
“Little girl, you’re not tall, but you’ve got plenty of tricks. You actually dared to set us up!” A greedy, ruthless look flashed in the rogue cultivator’s eyes.
With the Trail-Seeking Rat, the two of them had secretly killed many lone disciples from major sects who were training outside, taking a large amount of resources. Both of them were at peak Qi Refining Stage, and they planned to return to Bao Hua City in two days to attempt Foundation Establishment.
But on the way back, they noticed Wei Yun Xi traveling alone, so they decided to do one more job. Her value was tempting enough to make their hearts move, which led to this scene.
Yun Xi did not waste words. She attacked with her sword. She admitted it. She wanted to use these two as sparring partners.
Other than the time she killed that ill-intentioned Chen Feng, this was only her second time fighting a human cultivator. Over the past three years, most of her opponents had been demon beasts in the back mountain, so she lacked experience fighting people.
This opponent was clearly far more seasoned. Even though Yun Xi’s actual cultivation was higher, her attacks were not as ruthless or tricky as his. At first, Yun Xi’s rhythm was thrown off. Luckily, the Thousand Shadow Wind-Supporting Technique was strong, always helping her slip out of danger.
Yun Xi also realized her own weakness in the middle of the fight. Aside from attack spells, she did not have other offensive methods. Her spirit sword could deal damage when she poured spiritual power into it, but she had no real form or structure to her swordplay.
Still, Yun Xi discovered that as long as she was fast enough, she could dodge the other man’s attacks. Of course, that relied on her having more spiritual power in reserve than he did. If they were at the same level, facing this kind of assault, she would be badly injured even if she did not die.
After understanding that, Yun Xi lost the desire to keep fighting. She flashed behind him and stabbed straight through his heart.
Even as the man fell, his eyes were still full of unwillingness. He never expected that someone who hunted geese every day would end up pecked in the eye by a goose, dying without a sound.
Yun Xi took his storage bag, then went to the space where the Xia-surnamed cultivator was trapped.
Xia Yang was hacking at the array with an axe, trying to escape. The moment he and his partner were separated, he realized they had kicked a steel plate this time. Now he only wanted to get away.
The moment Yun Xi appeared, Xia Yang swung his axe quickly, trying to strike first.
Unfortunately, Yun Xi came prepared. There was no way she would fall for it. With a light step, she vanished and reappeared behind Xia Yang. She swung her sword sideways. He crouched fast, but his hair was still cut off.
Cold sweat poured down Xia Yang’s face. He immediately softened his tone. “Fellow Daoist, I’m willing to offer my storage bag. Please spare my life!”
Yun Xi paused, as if considering.
Seeing hope, Xia Yang hurried on. “Life is hard for rogue cultivators. We were forced into robbery just to scrape up some resources. We only take storage bags and never kill people. Please let me go-”
His remaining words were cut off by an ice spike. Yun Xi said coldly, “Do you think you’re qualified to bargain with me? While I’m still in a good mood, you’d better do as I say. Otherwise I don’t mind sending you to reunite with your partner.”
A dark glint flashed in Xia Yang’s eyes. He pulled the Trail-Seeking Rat from his clothes, formed hand seals, and released the master-servant contract between them. Then he pushed the Trail-Seeking Rat toward Yun Xi.
The Trail-Seeking Rat stared at Yun Xi with its little black eyes, as if judging its new master’s ability.
Yun Xi swept it with her spiritual sense and confirmed there was no trick. Then she picked up the palm-sized little creature, rubbed it twice, and confirmed it felt nice in her hand. Only then did she say to Xia Yang, “Since you know what’s good for you, I’ll spare you. Get lost!”
The array opened a gap. Xia Yang finally relaxed. If he could avoid a fight to the death, that was best. He stepped out without hesitation, but in the next second, a sudden change happened.
The gap in the array snapped shut. Before Xia Yang could react, he was cut in half.
“You-”
He did not even get the chance to finish. Xia Yang died on the spot.
“Hmph! Don’t think I’m easy to fool just because I’m young. You think I don’t know how many times you two have murdered and robbed people? If I weren’t afraid that killing you would affect that little rat, I would’ve split you with one sword long ago,” Yun Xi muttered as she took his storage bag.
Sure enough, she found all kinds of messy things inside. There were seven or eight women’s undergarments alone, which showed he had never been a good person.
She also saw a third-grade Explosive Talisman in the corpse’s hand. That was likely his trump card. If she had not given him a way out, he might have thrown it to protect himself.
“Tsk. That was close!” Yun Xi sighed again, then put that third-grade Explosive Talisman into her own storage bag. Now it was her spoils.
After meditating for a quarter hour, Yun Xi put away the array plate. Then she revealed her cultivation at early Foundation Establishment. This was a decision she had thought through carefully. She would use this chance to enter the inner sect openly and properly.
There were plenty of treasures in the Bao Hua Mountain range. It depended on whether you could seize the opportunity. She decided she would be the one who seized it.
As Yun Xi left, she glanced toward a tree trunk, then gave a smile she thought looked eerie. Only then did she flash away.
A male cultivator hiding behind the tree twitched the corner of his mouth, relieved he had not rashly tried to break the array. That little female cultivator’s smile had been way too frightening.
