Chapter 69
Chapter 69: Sister Lan Can Do Anything
If you couldn’t understand something this simple, why join a physics competition at all?
Xue Yi Wei didn’t want to waste another breath. Her expression turned colder. “Why are you still standing there? Hurry up. Class starts in a few minutes.”
The students of Senior 2 Class 1 had only just heard Ye Wan Lan would be joining the physics competition, and most of them were still stunned.
After all, students who chose history-chemistry-biology usually did so because their physics was weaker.
A physics competition was the battlefield of physics-track geniuses—not for people like them, who got headaches the moment they saw the word physics.
But shock didn’t stop the anger that surged up at Xue Yi Wei’s words.
“Hey,” the vice class monitor snapped, “what do you mean by that? Teacher Ren made the selection. As his students, don’t you know how much he values physics?”
“Of course we know,” Xue Yi Wei said, lips curling.
Her eyes traveled over Ye Wan Lan with faint disgust. “That’s exactly why I want to know how our transfer student bought off the principal and got in through Teacher Ren.”
Ye Wan Lan’s gaze stayed steady, without the slightest ripple. “You think I got in through connections?”
“Otherwise?” Xue Yi Wei’s tone sharpened with mockery. “Are you going to tell me your physics is better than ours?”
Ye Wan Lan hummed as if considering it. “If I’m only compared to you… then yes. You’re far behind.”
Xue Yi Wei’s jaw tightened. Frost gathered in her eyes. “Enough. I don’t have time for this. Come with me to Teacher Ren’s office right now.”
Ye Wan Lan nodded once. “Fine.”
Then she added, calm as ever, “Get lost.”
Silence slammed down.
For a moment, no one moved, as if the hallway itself had stopped breathing.
Xue Yi Wei stared at Ye Wan Lan, unable to believe what she’d heard. “What did you say?”
The Xue Family might not rank in Yun Jing’s top ten, but they were still a wealthy family. Xue Yi Wei had been drilled in etiquette since childhood. She could barely force herself to say a word like “get lost.”
Only someone like Ye Wan Lan—who’d left school early and lived in society—would speak that way.
“A Lan said get lost,” Su Xue Qing cut in, arm still linked with Ye Wan Lan’s. “Can’t you understand? You so-called ‘top students’ came to our Class 1 just to make trouble. Want me to call the teachers and let them see how you act every day?”
Xue Yi Wei sneered. “Su Xue Qing, you were kicked out—”
Ding ding ding!
The class bell rang, swallowing the rest of her sentence.
“Yi Wei, let’s go back,” Su Xu Bai said, gripping Xue Yi Wei’s shoulder.
His voice was cool. “There’s no need to ruin your health over irrelevant people. If something isn’t yours and you force it anyway, you’ll pay a price.”
His gaze brushed over Ye Wan Lan, distant and warning.
He wouldn’t give her a chance to cling to the Su Family.
Xue Yi Wei was still furious, but the bell left her nowhere to stand. She pressed it down and nodded. “Mm. Let’s go.”
As Class 2 withdrew, their voices carried back in mocking bursts.
“This is ridiculous. She stole our classmate’s spot and still told Yi Wei to get lost. Who does she think she is?”
“Keep it down. Who knows what kind of backing she has? She even dared to kick Sheng Song’s desk.”
“If we’re talking backing, who’s stronger than our Su God? Our Su God is from Yun Jing…”
Their laughter faded down the hall.
Su Xue Qing returned to her seat, still fuming. “A Lan, ignore them. They’re used to acting superior, looking down on us like they’re something special. Teacher Ren gave you the spot, so take it. Next month at the summer camp, let them see for themselves.”
Ye Wan Lan didn’t look bothered. “I know.”
“What are you thinking about?” Su Xue Qing demanded. “Don’t get angry. It’s not worth it.”
“I’m thinking about getting more summer training camp spots,” Ye Wan Lan said, gaze drifting out the window. “There are students who genuinely love physics. They really want to go.”
Su Xue Qing froze, then got even angrier—at Class 2, not at Ye Wan Lan. “Exactly! With Xue Yi Wei and Su Xu Bai’s ability, they should be fighting for more spots for the school instead of coming to bother you.”
“You tell me not to get angry,” Ye Wan Lan said, patting her shoulder, “but you’re the one getting angry.”
Then she added lightly, “A healer can’t heal herself. If you get sick from anger, how will you study volume two of Tai Yi Divine Needle?”
Su Xue Qing buried her face in her arms. Her voice came out muffled. “Stop. My only goal today is being able to sleep tonight.”
“If you already can’t sleep now,” Ye Wan Lan said, amused, “what will you do later?”
“As doctors, the first thing we need is a strong mind.”
She was still waiting for Su Xue Qing to master volume two—then she would pass out the later volumes.
Su Xue Qing wanted to protest. It wasn’t that her mental strength was weak. It was that her deskmate kept pulling out things that shattered her limits.
But she didn’t say it. She carefully unfolded the pages and started studying in earnest.
—
That night, Ye Wan Lan returned home and opened the Private Side Chat.
Most days, the group was quiet, but when she needed them, it was absurdly convenient.
[YN]: I have a question.
She was about to type, “Can any of you get summer training camp spots in River City?” when a thought struck and her fingers stopped.
Based on what she knew about these weirdos…
World’s Richest might fund the purchase of River City itself.
Ye Wan Lan had no doubt that sister would actually do it.
So she decided not to ask.
[Ghost Bro]: What is it, what is it? It’s my honor to do things for Sister YN!
[World’s Richest]: Not enough money? It’s fine. I still have a lot.
Hundreds more exclusive red packets flooded Ye Wan Lan’s screen.
[Ghost Bro]: Damn it, why do I never get any again?! I’m going to rob you!
[Scholar]: Sitting here, waiting for tomorrow’s Global Center news broadcast to report a man in beggar clothes found dead on the street—the scene too gruesome to describe.
[Crazy Scientist]: I’ll handle the assassination. Rich Sis, can you send me a few tens of millions?
Here we go again.
Ye Wan Lan closed the chat.
After thinking for a moment, she remembered someone on her contact list who could get her what she wanted—and would be reliable.
She tapped the black-hole avatar.
[YN]: Teacher, are you busy?
At the same time, across the ocean, an old man attending a physics seminar at the Global Center suddenly shot to his feet.
The assistant beside him jolted. “Professor?”
“Not busy. Free. I’m very free!” The old man ignored him, grabbed his phone, and rushed out of the conference room.
He sent a voice message back: “You little brat, you disappeared for so long. You’re finally alive!”
The assistants stared after him, exchanging stunned looks.
Their professor…
Had he lost his mind?
It was one thing to ditch everyone at Yun Jing University. How could he keep doing it on a business trip to the Global Center?
“River City summer training camp?” The old man frowned, phone pressed to his ear. “Why are you asking about that? Don’t tell me you’re in high school.”
[YN]: Mm.
The old man: “…”
He’d met her on a quantum mechanics forum and had marveled at her understanding.
With her level, she should have been a graduate student at minimum.
And yet… high school?
After a long pause, he asked, “Are you disappearing again this time?”
Ye Wan Lan fell silent.
Then she answered softly, “I won’t disappear anymore.”
“Good.” The old man’s voice softened, too. “If you’re not disappearing, I’ll get you the spots.”
He nodded to himself. “I’m at the Global Center right now for a trip. I’ll be back next month. I’ll come find you then.”
Ye Wan Lan replied, “Then prepare yourself.”
The old man blinked. “Prepare for what?”
Ye Wan Lan said, “Honestly, I’m afraid your heart won’t be able to take it.”
“…?”
His heart was perfectly fine. What was there to fear?
Still, he didn’t argue. “All right. Leave it to me.”
After settling the issue of summer training camp spots, Ye Wan Lan finally put her phone down.
Warm wind drifted through the night in gentle waves.
—
Early the next morning, the principal of No. 7 High School had barely arrived at work when a call came in from Yun Jing.
“What? Yes, yes, yes—thank you so much!”
His voice pitched with excitement. “Twenty spots? Isn’t that too many? N-no, I’m not saying I don’t want them! We want all of them!”
After the call, he let out a long breath and collapsed into his chair.
Ridiculous good fortune kept crashing into No. 7 High School one wave after another. He felt thrilled and anxious at the same time.
Could it be that his big patron was showing off again?
The principal jumped up and sprinted for Teacher Ren’s office to share the news.
He was a little evil. He wanted to see Teacher Ren dancing in place.
—
“Jun Ning!”
A voice shouted outside the classroom of Senior 2 Class 2. “Teacher Ren wants you in the office!”
Ye Jun Ning looked up, startled. After it was repeated, she hurriedly stood. “Coming!”
She ran to Teacher Ren’s office, heart pounding. “Teacher, you called for me?”
Teacher Ren smiled like he’d been waiting all morning for this moment. “Jun Ning, come here. Want to hear some good news?”
“Please tell me, Teacher,” Ye Jun Ning said obediently.
“You can go to the summer training camp after all!” Teacher Ren clapped his hands. “Surprised? Didn’t expect that, did you?”
Ye Jun Ning froze. “Huh?! No, Teacher… you already gave the spot to someone else. I don’t need her to give it back. You chose her for a reason.”
“What do you mean, give it back?” Teacher Ren waved his hand. “Wan Lan got us more spots. Twenty. You’re fourth in single-subject ranking. Why wouldn’t you go?”
“Twenty?!” Ye Jun Ning’s eyes went wide.
Even River City No. 1 High School only had forty spots.
And No. 7 High School suddenly had twenty?
Her head spun.
“But, Jun Ning,” Teacher Ren added, patting her shoulder, “you’re weak in optics. When you get to the summer camp, talk to Classmate Ye more. She has no weak points in physics. Ask her everything you can.”
Ye Jun Ning nodded, still dazed.
Yesterday, she’d learned she couldn’t go—and cried for an entire day.
Now, in the span of a single morning, despair turned into joy. Hell became heaven.
She floated back to Senior 2 Class 2 as if her feet weren’t touching the ground.
“Jun Ning, don’t worry.” Xue Yi Wei had already leaned in, voice sharp with righteous anger. “I’ll get your spot back. As for Ye Wan Lan, ignore her. She stole someone else’s thing and still has no manners!”
Ye Jun Ning stared at her blankly. “Yi Wei… Classmate Ye didn’t steal anything.”
Her voice wavered with disbelief. “Classmate Ye helped me get the spot—no, she helped twenty students get spots!”
