Chapter 089
Chapter 89: Is He a Spy?
Bei Bei’s gaze tightened, the chill seeping deep into her bones.
The hammer struck the ice with a thunderous crash, but the surface remained smooth as a mirror, not a crack in sight.
“Full Star Realm?”
With a leap, Bei Bei shot into the sky, racing toward the outskirts of Green Mountain City. Figures appeared around her, one of them unmistakably a berserk clan creature, the same one who had previously spoken with Wang Jie about cooperation.
“I thought only the Ten Seal cultivators had snuck in, but it seems there’s also a Full Star Realm,” one of the figures muttered.
As the words left his mouth, the dark heavens were cleaved apart. A flash of reflected light caught Bei Bei’s eye—a massive axe, its edge gleaming with deadly sharpness, pulsating with overwhelming star force, shaking the Green Square star cluster.
It, too, was from the Full Star Realm.
Bei Bei couldn’t understand when she’d become the target. Even if Puppet Master Lou had noticed her departure, it shouldn’t have been possible for the berserk clan to move this quickly.
But there was no time to ponder. In response to the axe, she crossed her arms, stacking her star force to form a massive ice mountain that collided head-on.
With a deafening boom, the axe struck the ice mountain, shattering Green Mountain City. The shockwave spread, causing the Green Square star to tremble violently beneath her feet, as if it might shatter at any moment. The stars around them visibly shifted.
Puppet Master Lou and Wang Jie watched in awe. So this is what a Full Star Realm battle looks like? Incredible. A single blow can destroy a star.
Jiang You Sheng arrived, concerned. “Master, are you alright?”
Wang Jie reassured him, “I’m fine. Tower Master, who is that person?”
“Bei Feng.”
“Brother Bei Feng? Is he a spy?”
Jiang You Sheng’s voice darkened. “He’s from Frost Radiance Sect. But he doesn’t have the distinct aura of Frost Radiance Sect, which means he was likely trained specifically for the berserk clan. The berserk clan thought they were sending only a Ten Seal cultivator, but they didn’t expect a Full Star Realm expert.”
Wang Jie frowned. “What is he trying to do? Why did he suddenly attack?”
Jiang You Sheng smirked. “Thanks to your warning, Master, this person definitely has ulterior motives. His repeated requests to go out were suspicious, and he offered star artifacts as a price. I think it’s safe to assume he had a purpose all along.”
Wang Jie looked up again.
The sky was split by a vast tear.
Suddenly, the sound of birdsong filled the air. Bei Bei notched an arrow and fired. With each shot, a berserk clan creature fell, but only the Full Star Realm berserk clan creature remained unharmed.
“Won’t Tower Master help?” Wang Jie asked.
“I won’t need to,” Jiang You Sheng replied.
From the starry sky, a figure emerged. Its appearance was unclear, but the oppressive energy it radiated was unmistakable.
Wandering Star Realm.
Bei Bei’s face grew grim. She nocked another arrow, sending a barrage of twisted star force into the air. The arrows combined and transformed into a massive black peacock that shrieked as it shot into the sky, while the Wandering Star Realm creature howled, spraying black liquid from its mouth.
The two streams of black clashed in the sky, neither giving way.
Jiang You Sheng was astonished. “He’s able to fight a Wandering Star Realm cultivator? This person must be a high-ranking member of Frost Radiance Sect.”
Wang Jie gazed upwards, feeling the tension in the air. The black forces covered the Green Square star, swaying in the starry sky. The star force released, even in the slightest trace, threatened to suffocate him.
The berserk clan could not subdue Bei Bei.
The primary reason for this was that most of the powerful experts had been sent to the frontlines; otherwise, the four colossal creatures would have posed a significant threat.
A voice rang through the air, asking for Jiang You Sheng’s help.
With a sigh, Jiang You Sheng replied, “In the end, I must intervene.”
“Could this drag the Seventh Star Chain into trouble?” Wang Jie asked.
Jiang You Sheng reassured him, “As long as he dies here, it’ll be fine. Besides, as Puppet Master Lou from the Ninth Star Chain, it’d be difficult to explain if I didn’t help.”
With those words, he entered his puppet and headed toward Bei Bei.
Wang Jie, indifferent to Bei Bei’s fate, had little affection for Frost Radiance Sect. But the battle was certainly a spectacle.
Especially when a flickering candlelight appeared beneath the night sky, raising the stakes of the confrontation.
That was Star Method.
Wang Jie was shaken. He had underestimated Bei Feng’s position in Frost Radiance Sect. He even knew Star Method.
The berserk clan creatures and Jiang You Sheng were equally stunned.
When the Star Method appeared, it became clear they could no longer capture Bei Bei. Yet she, too, could not escape. She was not from the Wandering Star Realm. Even if she used certain methods to escape into the starry sky, it would be a death sentence. The only option was to lie low.
Jiang You Sheng returned, “I didn’t expect Bei Feng to know Star Method. The berserk clan will never let him go. Master, we must leave quickly.”
Wang Jie nodded.
Just as Jiang You Sheng had said, that night, the berserk clan submitted their report. The outcome remained unclear, but it was obvious that the creatures of the Green Square star cluster were retreating in large numbers. Many who couldn’t escape were abandoned.
Resources were being transferred.
The next day, a berserk clan creature appeared before Wang Jie, thanking him for the reminder.
“Without Master’s warning, how could Jiang Cai have noticed Bei Feng? Master’s contribution is the greatest,” Jiang You Sheng said with a smile.
Wang Jie humbly replied, “Bei Feng’s repeated requests to leave were already suspicious. Offering star artifacts as a price was an obvious clue. I just mentioned it casually.”
Jiang You Sheng added, “But if it weren’t for Master, Puppet Master Lou would have unlocked the seal much earlier. It wouldn’t have taken this long, and that person would have successfully returned to Frost Radiance Sect. Master’s role in this cannot be understated.”
The berserk clan creature immediately took out a million starstones as a reward.
However, this gesture displeased Jiang You Sheng. “I thought these million starstones were for Jiang Cai. Turns out, they’re for Master. The berserk clan is quite generous.”
His words left no room for courtesy.
The berserk clan creature’s face darkened. It muttered a few words of thanks before walking off.
Jiang You Sheng snorted, then turned to Wang Jie with a smile. “Don’t worry, Master. This matter will be settled.”
Wang Jie waved his hand, indifferent, though he still accepted the million starstones.
“Tower Master, I’d like to ask a favor.”
“Of course, Master. What do you need?”
“Could you help me find a good smith refiner to forge some swords?”
“You need swords? I have some here.”
“I need a lot.”
“How many?”
“As many as possible.”
Jiang You Sheng hesitated. “With the war approaching, all the good smith refiners in the Ninth Star Chain have been taken by the berserk clan to forge weapons. The two hundred weapons the berserk clan gave you were not stockpiled—they were made on the spot. It’s unlikely you’ll find a good smith refiner now. Even if you do, you’ll be put at the back of the line.”
Wang Jie felt disappointed. The battle techniques he had acquired required swords, and the more the better.
Jiang You Sheng comforted him, saying that they would find a good smith refiner when they reached the Seventh Star Chain. That place was the heart of the artifact-forging dao.
The war on the Fourth Defensive Line was fierce. Giant beasts fell one after another, their bodies floating in space. Four of the beasts guarding Green Mountain City had died.
Yan Fu Yu had clashed repeatedly with Mad Thunder, the Fourth Defensive Line commander.
Mad Thunder opened the Five Prisons, displaying immense combat power, but Yan Fu Yu was no slouch either. Their repeated battles had brought the Fourth Defensive Line to the brink of collapse.
In Green Mountain City, the berserk clan creature returned to Wang Jie a day later, offering him a Three Tribulations star artifact.
Though the star artifact itself was of little use, it was still a Three Tribulations item. If sold, it would fetch four million starstones—a reasonable amount for the berserk clan to part with.
This moment helped ease Jiang You Sheng’s earlier dissatisfaction.
Whether the star artifact was useful or not, a Three Tribulations item was still worth something.
The previous day, more berserk clan creatures had sealed off the Green Square star cluster, waiting for other berserk clan reinforcements. Wang Jie had spent the last two days purchasing swords—ordinary swords, just to practice.
After two days, he had managed to buy over seventy swords. Green Mountain City was vast, so he continued his search.
On this day, he bought one hundred and thirty swords in one go. Delighted, he now had two hundred swords—enough to start his practice.
But as he returned, an ambush awaited him.
Several Ten-Seal creatures surrounded him, but he easily dispatched them. Puppet Master Lou was displeased, immediately warning Green Mountain City and even killing a few more creatures to restore peace.
Because of this, Jiang You Sheng urged Wang Jie for the third time to return with him to the Seventh Star Chain.
“Those who can escape are fleeing. The Fourth Defensive Line will not hold. Even if we remain here without immediate danger to our lives, things won’t be easy later,” Jiang You Sheng said. “Puppet Master Lou has already finished handling the situation. If we don’t leave now, we can at least retreat to the Third Defensive Line.”
Wang Jie had never refused before, and now there was no reason to delay further. The opportunity to return to the Eighth Star Chain would have to wait. Delaying any longer might raise suspicions in Jiang You Sheng.
Just as they were about to leave, a berserk clan creature appeared. The leader was unfamiliar to Wang Jie, but the other berserk clan creatures around him showed great respect.
“Mad Thunder? What are you doing here?” Jiang You Sheng asked, surprised.
Wang Jie observed the creature. Mad Thunder? Isn’t he the commander of the Fourth Defensive Line? What is he doing here instead of on the battlefield?
Mad Thunder greeted Jiang You Sheng, then turned to Wang Jie. Though its appearance was intimidating, it forced a smile. “So, this is the Celestial Refinement Master?”
Jiang You Sheng frowned. “Yes, this is the Celestial Refinement Master. Mad Thunder, what’s going on with the Fourth Defensive Line?”
Mad Thunder bowed to Wang Jie. “I am Mad Thunder, commander of the Fourth Defensive Line. Master, have you considered coming to the Eight Prison Realms?”
Wang Jie had not yet spoken, but Jiang You Sheng’s expression changed. He immediately stepped in front of Wang Jie, alarmed. “Mad Thunder, what are you trying to do?”
Mad Thunder gazed at Jiang You Sheng. “I wish to invite Master to the Eight Prison Realms.”
“Master is from the Seventh Star Chain.”
“Origin doesn’t dictate destiny. Master, don’t you agree?”
Wang Jie was surprised. Hearing these words from such a monstrous-looking being felt out of place.
“I understand now. You’ve abandoned the Fourth Defensive Line because it can’t be held, and you don’t want to die. But you can’t return to the Eight Prison Realms directly, so you plan to protect Master as an excuse to take him back. Bringing a Celestial Refinement Master would at least offset your death sentence,” Jiang You Sheng said, his voice heavy.
Mad Thunder smiled. “No matter how you think, my invitation to Master is sincere. Master, what do you say?”
Wang Jie shook his head. “I don’t want to go.”
It was a simple and direct answer.
If he went with Jiang You Sheng to the Seventh Star Chain, there might still be a chance to return to Blue Star. But going to the Eight Prison Realms… who knew what would happen there? He, a human, wasn’t about to live surrounded by monsters.
Mad Thunder was indifferent. “Master doesn’t seem to understand the Eight Prison Realms. We have plenty of resources there for Master to cultivate. Tower Master Jiang, please step aside.”
Jiang You Sheng’s anger flared. “Mad Thunder, everyone at Little Round Lake knows Master’s name. They are waiting for me to bring him back. You want to take him? Don’t you fear angering Little Round Lake?”
Mad Thunder hesitated, but for the sake of its life, it persisted in its goal to take Wang Jie.
Without a Celestial Refinement Master, it was as good as dead. It was a gamble it had to take.
“Tower Master Jiang, we’ve known each other for years. Please don’t force me.”
“You’re the one forcing me.”
“Eight Prison Berserk Clan, please take Master back.”
“Puppet Master Lou, protect Master.”
Green Mountain City shattered completely. Mad Thunder clashed with Jiang You Sheng, while the Eight Prison Berserk Clan joined forces with nearly ten thousand cosmic giant beasts to assault Puppet Master Lou.
