Chapter 039
Chapter 39: Do Everything to Stop Me
Wang Jie gazed at the back of the bald young man. Peak of ten seals? It was the same as it had been years ago. Such a person was far beyond Yun Lai’s reach.
No wonder he dared to face Shu Mu Night alone.
“What should we do? Strike now or wait?” Yun Lai asked.
Wen Star Ru turned to Qi Xue Yin: “What do you think?”
Qi Xue Yin shook her head. “Let’s wait and see. Even if Mo Lord cannot defeat Shu Mu Night, he should be able to force out some of his strength. We can take action when the time is right.”
At this moment, Wang Jie noticed something strange. There was no sound from any mutated creatures.
Nothing at all.
It was summer, and there should be plenty of mutated creatures around.
The drones dared not approach Shu Mu Night, but they did get closer as Mo made his way toward him.
A set of images came through, sending chills down everyone’s spine.
Beneath Shu Mu Night, there was a massive pit, filled with the corpses of mutated creatures. The surrounding land was stained red with blood. Though the depth of the pit was unclear, the massive tail of a mutated creature sticking out from the top made it clear that it was quite deep.
Raising the drone higher, they could see that the entire central area of the mountain city had disappeared. The pit took up the very center, and even the river had run dry.
No wonder there were no mutated creatures around; they had all been buried by Shu Mu Night.
“This is the location for the bridge building,” Wen Star Ru spoke in a low voice.
“No wonder he’s not leaving.”
Wang Jie looked toward the sky. Though they were far apart, an increasingly cold feeling settled over him.
Meanwhile, Mo had arrived beneath Shu Mu Night and slowly looked up.
Shu Mu Night looked down at the earth. “A little bald head from Three Chan Heaven, you’re still not in the meditative insight realm. Coming to challenge me now is too soon.”
Mo gazed up at Shu Mu Night. “You have eight seals, I have ten. It’s not too early.”
Shu Mu Night looked intrigued. “That’s how you calculate it.”
“Otherwise?”
“So, you want to duel with me?”
Mo turned his gaze toward Wen Star Ru and the others. He simply stared without speaking.
Wang Jie and the others exchanged glances, wondering what he meant.
“Is he trying to get us to join in?” Qi Five murmured.
Wen Star Ru sighed. This was awkward. If he didn’t want to duel, why had he come all the way out here?
Mo continued to watch them in silence, without a word or any urging.
Wen Star Ru was about to speak when Bai Yuan’s voice rang out.
“I am Bai Yuan from Blue Star Upper Capital City. May I ask, do you intend to proceed with the bridge-building and sacrifice Blue Star?”
Shu Mu Night glanced over slowly, then spoke calmly. “Correct.”
Bai Yuan narrowed his eyes. “How do you plan to sacrifice it?”
Shu Mu Night smiled faintly. “Use Blue Star itself, stake it, and let it be completely reduced to ashes.”
“And the people of Blue Star?”
Shu Mu Night did not answer. Instead, he pointed toward the pit below.
There was no need for further words; the meaning was clear. Wen Star Ru hadn’t lied to them. Shu Mu Night intended to use all of Blue Star and its people to perform the bridge building.
Wang Jie exhaled and touched his wristguard.
Bai Yuan drew a broad-bladed sword and began walking toward Shu Mu Night.
Shu Mu Night looked at the sword in Bai Yuan’s hand, surprised. “You’ve learned the Armor One Divine Sword?”
Bai Yuan glanced toward the sky. “I seek your guidance, esteemed one.”
Shu Mu Night chuckled. “Interesting. I’ll allow it.” His gaze swept over the surroundings, then he slowly descended, eventually landing atop a blood-soaked mutated creature’s body in the pit. He raised his hand and beckoned at Mo.
Mo glanced at Shu Mu Night, then turned to look at Wen Star Ru and the others. This time, he gave them a meaningful look.
The message was clear—let them go first.
This guy wasn’t as dull as he seemed.
Wen Star Ru’s eyes darkened. “Go.”
With that, she leaped toward Shu Mu Night, several trial takers following her, including two with nine seals and one with ten seals. At the same time, Yun Lai shot out an eight-cloud arrow, its eight arrows merging into one and reaching Shu Mu Night first.
Shu Mu Night raised his hand and flicked his fingers lightly.
Ping.
The arrow shattered.
Wang Jie was stunned. He knew too well the power of Yun Lai’s eight-arrow fusion. Even with eight times the strength, Yun Lai still needed the wristguard to deflect it. But now, with thirty-two times the strength, Yun Lai’s arrow would have landed, yet it wouldn’t have been as easily dismissed by Shu Mu Night.
It seemed like the man hadn’t even exerted any effort.
Yun Lai, however, seemed completely unfazed, as if this outcome were entirely expected.
A vast handprint descended from above, from one of the ten-seal trial takers. The handprint grew larger, engulfing the entire mountain city. It was a strike capable of destroying an entire city.
Shu Mu Night waved his hand casually, the shattered arrow turning to starlight, which struck the handprint into pieces. The two nine-seal trial takers charging toward him were struck in the head, their bodies falling into the pit.
Wen Star Ru passed Mo by, launching a palm strike. The force of her ten seals surged like boiling water, becoming massive peaks that collided horizontally. Each peak was enormous, comparable to Wang Jie’s Heaven and Earth Luo Xuan Finger.
Shattering Peak Palm.
Qi Xue Yin spun her body, releasing endless coldness to dispel the heat. A blizzard of snow began to fall, stretching across the sky, freezing everything in its path.
At this moment, the entire mountain city was blanketed in snow, altering the weather itself.
Shu Mu Night smiled faintly, bent his right arm, and swung it.
An indescribable gust of wind tore through the entire world, the air rippling as it expanded. Both the mountains and the snow were swept back, as if they were nothing before this tremendous force.
Against such overwhelming power, everything seemed insignificant, like insects attempting to shake a tree.
At that moment, Mo shot out from the mountain peak, his sword slashing at an angle like a tree branch.
Shu Mu Night’s gaze followed the sword’s arc, his expression unchanged. His index and middle fingers moved faster than the eye could follow, catching the tip of the sword, bending it slowly. The sword, now out of control, twisted as Mo’s body followed the twisting blade, charging out with a flash of cold light that cut past Shu Mu Night, striking the earth.
To the south of the mountain city, the earth was split in two, the crack stretching far beyond sight.
This strike, severing the land, also split the air, dividing the wind and snow, and breaking the clouds above.
Everyone looked toward Shu Mu Night.
Shu Mu Night opened his hand, the broken sword tip resting in his palm. The sword had snapped. Behind him, Mo coughed up blood, his broken sword embedded in the earth. He knelt, seemingly burdened by an unimaginable weight.
No one could see clearly.
It was impossible to understand.
Wang Jie stared at Shu Mu Night, holding the battle power detector in his hand. He wanted to gauge Shu Mu Night’s strength, but the detector kept blaring, its readings jumping too wildly—too wildly, in fact, to capture the moment’s power.
The gap was too immense.
A ten-seal expert already possessed the power to devastate entire lands.
The aftershock from Mo’s strike was so exaggerated that, had he gone all out, he would have been capable of splitting the entire Hua Xia nation and even the seas.
Yet still, it didn’t hurt Shu Mu Night in the slightest.
Wen Zhao’s White Fang Strike descended, yet even this massive strike was wiped out with a single gesture from Shu Mu Night.
This was no longer a gap that numbers could bridge.
Wen Zhao’s face turned pale. Eight seals—how could he be so strong?
Armor One Divine Sword.
The massive broad-bladed sword swept down, from above, crashing toward Shu Mu Night. Shu Mu Night looked at it without any intention of resisting. He allowed the Armor One Divine Sword to fall, slamming into him. He stood unmoving, and the surrounding pit remained unchanged. The sword, however, shattered.
Bai Yuan’s pupils shook. He didn’t even need to block?
Bai Yuan had reached nine seals, and this strike could have threatened Yun Lai, yet it had no effect on Shu Mu Night whatsoever.
Shu Mu Night sighed. “As expected of the Armor One Divine Sword. Any attack can be swallowed and absorbed. If you reached ten seals, perhaps I’d find you interesting. What a pity.”
With that, he waved his hand again, the gale sweeping through the entire world. Everyone who had been surrounding him was swept away.
It was as if a raging wind had torn apart ants—effortlessly.
“This is the location for the bridge building. Try to stop me, Armor One Sect, Blue Star people. No matter what your goal is, I’ll stand in your way.”
“Do everything you can to stop me before the platform reaches a thousand meters in height. Otherwise—”
Shu Mu Night took step after step toward the sky, as though climbing invisible steps. “It will be too late.”
Wang Jie didn’t move. There was no point.
The strength of those chosen from Heaven, like Mo, was about the same as his, and against Shu Mu Night, they were no match. There was no use in him stepping in.
As he watched Shu Mu Night slowly ascend, he realized that the man didn’t even regard anyone else. Throughout the assault, his position had never changed.
The flying vessel soared toward Tianfu Base, the closest location.
Now, the strongest cultivators of Blue Star and the most powerful trial takers were all here, discussing how to deal with Shu Mu Night.
“The only way is for us to reach the limits of star force. But it’s too slow here; it’s not feasible. We can only rely on imprint power.”
“That requires a massive amount of cataclysm materials.”
“Mo Senior Brother, what do you think?”
Mo didn’t answer. He just stared at the broken sword in a daze.
“Insect Xuan hasn’t arrived yet?”
“Should be soon. They’ve found traces of the insect tide.”
“It could be Insect Ruo Ruo.”
“Let’s gather everyone and attack once more.”
Bai Yuan spoke slowly: “Everyone, shouldn’t you tell us who this Shu Mu Night really is? How can someone with eight seals possess such strength? It’s too unreasonable.”
The trial takers exchanged glances, and there was a brief silence.
Wen Star Ru spoke. “Knowing doesn’t matter. Right now, Blue Star is being staked. If we fail, you will all die. No matter who this person is, you must fight.”
Yun Lai suddenly pointed at Wang Jie. “Let him go out. He doesn’t even dare to strike. He’s not worthy to sit with us.”
Everyone turned to look at Wang Jie.
Wang Jie spoke calmly. “I am observing.”
Yun Lai sneered. “Just a coward.”
Wen Star Ru sighed in annoyance. “Forget it, don’t mind him.” She turned to Bai Yuan. “You don’t have much time. The task is simple. Use all your cultivators’ power to gather as many cataclysm materials as possible in the shortest time. Increase the lock force, the imprint power, and give us a chance to surround him at our peak.”
“Insect Xuan will work with us using the insect tide, depleting his strength.”
“Though he’s powerful, his star force is limited. This is our only chance to win.”
Star force is the power absorbed by the cultivators from outside Blue Star. Meanwhile, Blue Star people absorb imprint power—lock force, the power of battle slaves.
Seeing Bai Yuan and the others from Blue Star remain silent, Wen Star Ru looked at Wen Zhao and then said, “Of course, in return, we can remove Blue Star people from the interstellar battle list within the sect.”
Bai Yuan, Wang Jie, and the others looked toward Wen Star Ru.
Wen Star Ru spoke seriously. “I swear in the name of the Wen family that we will remove Blue Star people from the list. As for Blue Star itself, it will still need bridge building. I’m not lying to you.”
