Chapter 033
Chapter 33: Will You Make a Move?
Wen Zhao glanced at Wang Jie. In her view, no one on Blue Star could oppose Yun Lai, not even the other trial takers. Even the final batch of ten-seal trial takers might not be able to stop him. Only Wang Jie could possibly challenge Yun Lai because Wang Jie’s Heaven and Earth Luo Xuan Finger was powerful enough.
As long as Wang Jie broke through to the Nine-Seal level, combined with his steadily growing strength, it wasn’t impossible for him to confront Yun Lai. But the outside world still didn’t know Wang Jie’s true power, so few considered him a threat.
Yun Lai could observe the trial process within his sect, but not everything, especially not anything related to the Heaven and Earth Luo Xuan Finger. The sect would definitely keep that hidden. Perhaps Yun Lai didn’t even know about Wang Jie’s situation.
“There’s another issue that’s a bit troublesome.” Wang Jie looked at Bai Yuan and the others. “The arrival of the third batch of trial takers means the mutated creatures will undergo another transformation tonight, and the Nine-Seal level will appear on a large scale.”
Bai Yuan frowned. “Upper Capital City Base is much better off due to the insect tide. The safe zones have expanded a lot, but what about the other bases?”
“Especially Golden Hill Base and Tianfu Base,” Tang Jie interjected. “Hong Jian is still unconscious, Li Xiang is dead, Zuo Tian’s life or death is unknown, and the city walls have been breached. These two bases are in great danger.” She shot a look at Wang Jie, since Li Xiang had died by Wang Jie’s hand and Zuo Tian’s fate was still unclear.
Wang Jie nodded. “We’ll head to Golden Hill Base and take care of some of the mutated creatures.”
Bai Yuan glanced at Wen Zhao, then agreed.
At this point, analyzing Wen Zhao’s strength was pointless. The most important thing was ensuring the safety of the bases. Wen Zhao didn’t mind her strength being analyzed—she was willing to return after defeating Insect Ruo Ruo, which meant that analyzing her power was ineffective.
Besides, Wen Zhao had already shared many things with them, so there was no need to control her.
As for Tianfu Base, Wang Jie wasn’t concerned; Bai Yuan and the others would handle it.
Soon, Wang Jie and the group boarded a Leading Pillar group aircraft and headed towards Golden Hill. In just a few hours, they arrived.
Back at Golden Hill Base, they were greeted by Feng Yu.
Feng Yu looked at Wang Jie with a complex expression.
“How’s Hong Jian?”
“He’s still unconscious. The force of that arrow was too great.”
“And Yan Si?”
Feng Yu hesitated before replying, “He’s being detained.”
Wang Jie nodded without saying anything, heading straight for the southeast corner where the wall had been shattered. He saw the marks left by the arrow, the sharpness of Yun Lai’s arrow was evident.
He then directed Old Five and the others to hunt mutated creatures in the dangerous area outside the city while he went to visit Four-Eyes.
No. 18 Minghe Road
Liu Ying answered the door.
Wang Jie hadn’t expected Liu Ying to be here.
Liu Ying looked a bit awkward in front of Wang Jie. “I… I was pulled in to help when I came looking for you, and then I ended up staying here.”
Wang Jie nodded and stepped inside.
It was so clean. Wang Jie had never seen this place look so tidy before.
“Eh, kid, you’re back? How was it? Did you bring me something nice?”
Wang Jie had come to check if anything unusual had happened at Golden Hill Base recently, since Four-Eyes had been monitoring the area around the base.
Everything seemed normal.
Wang Jie handed Four-Eyes a few cataclysm materials and was about to leave.
“Wait, bring me the tool the trial takers used,” Four-Eyes said eagerly.
Wang Jie replied, “That thing melted down.”
Four-Eyes chuckled. “Some melted, some didn’t.” He stepped aside to reveal something that looked like an eggshell. “This one melted halfway, but the other half is still intact.”
Wang Jie looked at it with curiosity.
“What do you want this for?”
“Research. Who knows, I might figure out how to make a spaceship.”
Wang Jie nodded. “Alright, if I see it, I’ll bring it to you.”
“Great.”
“By the way.” Wang Jie took out a power detector, which Wen Zhao had given him from Qi Five. “Take this.”
“What is it?”
“It detects power levels.”
Four-Eyes’ eyes lit up as he quickly took it. “This is great! Alien technology!”
For Wang Jie, this device didn’t hold much significance. Wen Zhao was much more useful than this. When they were being hunted during the insect tide, the device never stopped making noise.
Rather than keep it, he figured it would be better to give it to Four-Eyes.
Wang Jie left.
Four-Eyes looked at him. “Kid.”
Wang Jie turned back.
Four-Eyes’ expression was serious. “I’ve inherited Hua Xia’s legacy for thousands of years. I can’t be a battle slave to outsiders. Even if my ancestors’ sect was destroyed, I couldn’t close my eyes in peace. If in the end, fate can’t be changed, you can kill me, and that will be a favor.”
Liu Ying bit her lip hard. “I feel the same.”
Wang Jie asked, “Why not just kill yourselves?”
“Afraid of dying.”
“Alright.” Wang Jie walked off towards the exit of Golden Hill Base.
For the next two days, they hunted mutated creatures fiercely outside the base. Both the moon plant and mutated eagle were killed. Although many mutated creatures underwent transformations upon reaching Golden Hill Base that night, they were no match for Wang Jie.
He also gathered plenty of cataclysm materials, which he stored in Wen Zhao’s storage ring.
The insect tide pursuit turned Wang Jie and Wen Zhao from partners to comrades-in-arms.
Three days later, news came from Upper Capital City: Yun Lai was on his way.
Wang Jie and the others immediately set off for Upper Capital City Base.
Meanwhile, a man walked through the sky, his feet above the endless earth. Despite countless mutated creatures roaming everywhere, none made a move as he ascended. This strange phenomenon caught the attention of the Armor One Sect, who began investigating him.
Normally, the trial takers of Armor One Sect had transparent files, but this person’s records didn’t match up with his abilities. He was marked as an Eight-Seal, yet his powers were beyond that.
As the aircraft landed at Upper Capital City Base, many cultivators watched warily, but no one acted.
Yun Lai stepped off the aircraft, and Bai Yuan was there to meet him, followed by Lian Qin.
Bai Yuan looked at Yun Lai, his usual lazy demeanor replaced by a calm, determined expression. As his gaze swept over, Upper Capital City seemed to meld into one, steady as a mountain.
Yun Lai smiled slightly. “I like their spirit. It’ll be fun to crush them.” His words seemed directed at Lian Qin.
Lian Qin smiled, casting a playful glance at him.
Bai Yuan stepped forward, but Yun Lai interrupted him. “I’ve seen the trial process. Your sword is fast. It should be the Fast Shadow technique from Armor One Sect’s eighteen ultimate techniques.” He glanced at Bai Yuan’s right hand. “Honestly, I didn’t expect a native to comprehend the Eighteen Ultimate Techniques. But it doesn’t matter. If I win, does that mean the base will belong to me?”
Bai Yuan replied, “Your goal is to obtain an A-class trial rating. All the Blue Star cultivators, including all trial takers, are your targets, right?”
Yun Lai nodded. “Wen Zhao told you, huh? Well, that saves me the trouble of talking. But do you know? With my abilities, the combined forces of all the cultivators in this base are meaningless.” His tone was cold. “I could erase all of you, though it might take some time.”
Bai Yuan agreed. “That’s true. Actually, from the Seven-Seal level onward, numbers don’t matter. Because the Seven-Seal level can break through the cultivators’ barriers and escape. Reaching Nine-Seal, you can come and go freely. Not to mention someone like you, a heaven’s chosen prodigy, who can even counterattack.”
“But if you want to get an A-class trial result, wiping us all out doesn’t seem enough. That won’t be enough to push you to A-class.”
Yun Lai didn’t argue. If that were the case, he would have attacked already, without talking.
A-class ratings couldn’t be obtained by just killing natives. If it were that simple, previous A-class trial takers would have been everywhere.
For someone like him, a heaven’s chosen prodigy, the number of natives didn’t matter. To achieve an A-class trial rating, he needed to accomplish something that would shake Armor One Sect. He had been thinking about it for a long time but still couldn’t come up with a solution.
“I’ll give you a path,” Bai Yuan said.
Yun Lai was curious. “What path?”
Bai Yuan looked solemn. “Let me break through to Nine-Seal and then fight you.”
Yun Lai was taken aback for a moment before laughing, his laughter filled with sarcasm and disdain.
The cultivators at Upper Capital City Base were furious, feeling disregarded. The condescending attitude was too obvious.
Lian Qin smiled, but her smile grew increasingly forced.
Yun Lai smiled at Bai Yuan. “Hasn’t Wen Zhao explained it to you? Don’t talk about Nine-Seal. Even if your natives reach Ten-Seal, so what? You still aren’t qualified to make me aim for the A-class.” He stepped forward, his figure a blur, and appeared next to Bai Yuan, his face cold. “I’ll give you one day. Hand over the base. If it’s not done by this time tomorrow, I’ll breach the city walls and let the mutated creatures in. At that point, how many of you natives die won’t be up to me.”
Bai Yuan turned to look at him, his eyes colder than ever, like the frozen depths of an ancient glacier.
Yun Lai didn’t care. He waved toward the distance.
Lian Qin obediently walked over to him, and he wrapped his arm around her waist, smiling as they entered the base.
The cultivators on both sides didn’t dare to stop them.
Tang Jie clenched her fists, staring at Yun Lai as he passed by.
Farther away, Lian Fei gritted her teeth, glaring at Yun Lai. Her mother was famous for her charm, but she always took the initiative. This time, she could tell that it wasn’t by choice.
When Wang Jie and the others arrived back at Upper Capital City Base, they learned that Bai Yuan had shut himself in and refused visitors. They also witnessed Yun Lai entering the base.
“No wonder his sword is so fast. So it’s Fast Shadow,” Wen Zhao said, suddenly understanding.
Wang Jie asked, “Does Bai Yuan have a chance? I mean, if he breaks through to Nine-Seal.”
“Absolutely not,” Wen Zhao replied firmly.
Wang Jie’s expression grew heavy.
Wen Zhao looked at him. “Will you make a move?”
Wang Jie gazed out into the dark night without answering.
