Chapter 5: 005 – A Crazy Pursuer

Cloud City.

The senior executive at the agency on the other end of Madam Wang’s call pressed a hand to his temple, headache pulsing behind his eyes.

First, the young actress they’d been pushing erupted in a scandal at the worst possible moment.

Now Qiao Qing Yan had somehow offended the Wang family in the Capital.

The company had been courting the Wang family, hoping to use their influence as a bridge into the Capital.

Instead, they’d gotten a wrecking ball.

The manager barked for someone to fetch Wu Lan from the Artist Department.

When she arrived, he didn’t bother with pleasantries.

“Wu Lan, what kind of work are you doing?” His voice was all teeth. “Now both of the people under you have problems. If you don’t solve this perfectly, then get out of this industry.”

Wu Lan’s stomach tightened. After arranging things with Director Liu last night, she’d rushed back from the Capital to prepare the contract.

The plan was simple.

The person in that room was supposed to be Qiao Qing Yan.

So how had it turned into…?

“Manager, Jing Jing’s side—”

He cut her off with a slap of impatience. “Fly to the Capital right now and solve the issue between the Wang family’s Young Master and Qiao Qing Yan.”

“Go. Get out.”

Qiao Qing Yan.

Wu Lan’s pupils shrank. What did Qiao Qing Yan have to do with the Wang family?

The manager clearly had no intention of explaining.

“I’ll message you later. No matter what method you use, you must make Qiao Qing Yan agree.”

Qiao Qing Yan yawned and sank back into the hotel bed as if the world outside didn’t exist. Sunlight poured through the curtains, warm and loud.

She replied drowsily, “Oh. So what?”

She didn’t live off the Wang family.

Madam Wang was a mistress who’d clawed her way into the main position. She had a son and a daughter, and she’d managed to rise after the previous Madam Wang died because of that son.

That son—Third Young Master Wang—had been a spoiled playboy since childhood. Over the years he’d done plenty of filthy things, and people only pretended not to see because of the Wang family’s shadow.

This time, someone reported him. He was arrested.

Little Tabby Cat’s little body trembled with anxiety.

[Master, when did you look into the Wang family’s situation? How come I didn’t know?]

“It’s all online.” Qiao Qing Yan closed her eyes, voice lazy. “You put the pieces together and you know enough.”

Third Young Master Wang liking the original host wasn’t a secret. He’d even given her ridiculously expensive gifts in front of everyone.

The original host had been vain, but she still had a bottom line. She returned every high-value gift and accepted nothing.

It only made him more obsessed. He’d declared he’d marry her, no matter what.

Qiao Qing Yan didn’t even open her eyes.

“Good child.” She sounded almost gentle. “She only said ‘return to the peak.’ She never set a time limit.”

“Shh.” Qiao Qing Yan lifted a finger, smiling in a way that made the air feel sharp. “Sleep.”

And she closed her eyes.

Little Tabby Cat stared at the bright sky beyond the window.

It had forgotten.

Its host hated being disturbed while sleeping.
