Chapter 22
Chapter 22: I Pushed “Wife” Toward the Mutant Tiger’s Mouth, Am I Awesome or What?
Jiang Tea Tea listened, then flipped her hand and gave Chong Ming a big thumbs up: “As expected of the Commander in Chief of the Three Armies and Prince Regent. All for the country and the people, knowing how to use whatever is at hand and squeeze value out of everything. You really are something. I admire you, admire you!”
Chong Ming tilted his head a little. His gaze slipped from Jiang Tea Tea’s eyes and fell on her fair, delicate face: “Schoolmate Jiang Tea Tea, your praise sounds very insincere. Can I know why?”
She really was not afraid of him at all. The oppressive aura he released without thinking, aimed only at her, might as well not exist. She acted like she could not feel it.
Jiang Tea Tea went straight in and opened with a big move right in his face: “You’re overthinking it. I was thinking about this large-scale attack of aberrant beasts and mutated insects on the Imperial Academies, and wondering if you lured them here on purpose to test the reaction of the Royal Military Academies.”
Huang Da Zhuang’s brain exploded: he stared, totally stunned.
From that moment on, he silently announced that besides Chong Ming, he now had a second idol: his Sister Tea.
The way she went right up to His Highness Chong Ming, getting in his face and calling him out, was too handsome, too cool, too aggressive. [Oh no, my heart is racing.]
Lin Feng Feng and Lu Ling’er both stared with round eyes, shocked as they looked at Jiang Tea Tea. They suddenly felt it was not a loss at all that she had slapped them around and lectured them before, if she could even butt heads with His Highness Chong Ming like this.
Chong Ming’s thin lips curved slightly: “No, that’s not it.”
Jiang Tea Tea answered cleanly and fast: “If you didn’t bring them here on purpose, then it means someone wants your life.”
Chong Ming raised an eyebrow: “Thank you for the reminder. I’ll investigate in that direction when I get back and see which bold idiot is not afraid of death and dares to think about my life.”
He was too calm, so calm it felt like everything was in his grasp. That also meant the students fighting those aberrant beasts and mutated insects absolutely would not be in true life-or-death danger.
Jiang Tea Tea grabbed Huang Da Zhuang in one pull: “Big Dog Huang, didn’t you say you wanted to protect your heartthrob idol and go fight aberrant beasts with him? Now is your chance, hurry up and go.”
Huang Da Zhuang looked completely confused: “Sister Tea, didn’t you say if I went I would just drag everyone down and I’m not even enough to fill the gap between an aberrant beast’s teeth?”
Jiang Tea Tea really wanted to crack his skull open and see what kind of mush was inside: “That was then and this is now. Just go.”
Huang Da Zhuang let out a dumb “Ah”: “For real?”
“It’s real.” Chong Ming answered for Jiang Tea Tea: “Big Dog Huang, your Sister Tea is telling you to go bite aberrant beasts and mutated insects now and show me what you can do. Then you’ll have a better chance to get into an elite army corps in the future.”
Huang Da Zhuang’s puppy eyes blinked. Inspiration suddenly struck. His body shook, and he changed form on the spot, turning into a big yellow dog about one meter five when standing up, with solid muscles, a strong body, and short, dense fur.
After turning into a dog, he let out a long “awooo,” shook his naturally drooping tail, bared his teeth, and charged at a mutant tiger that weighed several tons.
Jiang Tea Tea almost could not bear to watch. He was a dog-type beastman, not a wolf. Dogs were supposed to go “woof woof,” not “awooo awoo.”
Never mind the howling. His brain also seemed short a few screws, because he went and picked the biggest mutant tiger to attack.
Mutant foxes, mutant leopards, mutant rats, and even the tea hornets flying in the sky were all smaller than the mutant tiger. He did not attack any of those. He picked the biggest one. Truly, his brain was sick.
“Sister Tea, Sister Tea.” Lu Ling’er reached out and tugged on Jiang Tea Tea’s clothes. She did not dare call her real name and copied Huang Da Zhuang in calling her Sister Tea as she asked: “Lin Feng Feng and I are also ability users, just lower level. Should we go show what we can do too?”
Jiang Tea Tea grinned, showing her teeth: “If you’re not afraid of getting hurt and not afraid of dying, then go show off.”
A shiver ran through Lu Ling’er’s whole body. She weakly glanced at her own heartthrob idol.
Right then, Chong Ming’s gaze happened to sweep over them without meaning to.
The moment Lu Ling’er’s eyes met his, her heart pounded like thunder. She quickly looked away, then acted like she had been inspired: “I’m not afraid of getting hurt. I’m not afraid of dying. I’m going to fight the aberrant beasts too.”
Jiang Tea Tea made a small sound: “Oh,” then stepped aside to open a path for her: “Be my guest…”
Lu Ling’er was a female beastman. Her beast form was a sika deer, and she had a C-level Jump Conduit ability. After she turned into her beast form, she landed on four hooves and stood less than one meter tall.
She rushed out. Using her jumping ability, she hopped and stomped, jumping up and down on purpose to land on level seven mutant rats.
Her aim was very good. Every time she jumped and landed, a level seven mutant rat got stomped flat, blood and guts splattering all over the ground.
Lin Feng Feng, a C-level wind ability user, could not hold back anymore. She flashed forward, stopping just outside His Highness Chong Ming’s protective circle. She stirred up her wind ability and blasted the incoming tea hornets with gusts of wind.
The tea hornets were blocked. Their wings beat furiously as they tried to break through the wind blowing straight at them, but they could not. The wind restrained their wings so they could not move forward to attack.
With Huang Da Zhuang, who had no abilities, and the two girls with low-level abilities charging at the front, and with the Empire’s idol and heartthrob idol watching from the side, the other students below A-level also rushed out.
For a while, all kinds of supernatural abilities flashed through the air. Sticks and weapons rose and fell. Killing shouts rang out. Angry roars spread everywhere. Mutant tigers, mutant foxes, level seven mutant rats, they all became targets for the students’ attacks.
“Schoolmate Jiang Tea Tea, aren’t you going up? Aren’t you going to hunt some aberrant beasts?” Besides the bodyguards around him, the only one left at Chong Ming’s side was Jiang Tea Tea, who was watching other people fight aberrant beasts with bright excitement.
“I am a delicate, pure human girl with no awakened abilities. Why would I go? I’m not stupid enough to go deliver my head so the aberrant beasts can tear it off.”
Jiang Tea Tea stared at the aberrant beasts that had been knocked down, their bellies split open and blood all over the place. She kept swallowing, drooling like crazy.
[Heaven Above, Mother Earth, look at all this meat, all this organic fertilizer.] She could not believe it. Burying all these aberrant beast corpses under her tree roots would be such a wonderful thing.
Chong Ming nodded: “You make sense. People without abilities should find a safe place to hide when aberrant beasts attack.”
Her throat moved as she swallowed. She was clearly drooling. What normal person would drool while watching other people beat up aberrant beasts?
Jiang Tea Tea agreed with Chong Ming’s words: “You’re right. I’m hiding in the safest place right now.”
She was using him as her safe hiding place.
Pretty good eye.
Chong Ming was amused by her: “Thank you for thinking so highly of me.”
Jiang Tea Tea waved her hand like it was only natural: “You’re welcome. If I get hurt or die right next to you, it’s your face as Commander in Chief of the Three Armies and Prince Regent that gets thrown away. It has nothing to do with me.”
Chong Ming’s tone turned playful: “Is that so?”
Jiang Tea Tea nodded hard: “Yes.”
She had decided that once this fight with the aberrant beasts was over, she would tag along when everyone went to clear the battlefield. She would secretly eat all these aberrant beasts without anyone knowing.
Chong Ming saw the way Jiang Tea Tea looked at the aberrant beasts, her eyes shining with a hungry, wolf-like light. There was no way he believed she had not awakened any abilities.
To test her, Chong Ming made a small hand gesture to his nearby bodyguards where she could not see.
The bodyguards caught his signal and shifted their standing positions, changing their defensive formation so that the protective circle opened up a gap.
A roar shook the air as a mutant tiger let out an ear-splitting scream.
“Careful, Schoolmate Jiang Tea Tea, don’t let the mutant tiger pounce on you.” Chong Ming stretched out a hand and pushed Jiang Tea Tea, reminding her kindly as he shoved her toward the opening.
Jiang Tea Tea was pushed right into the gap in the protective circle. Before she could react, she saw a mutant tiger baring its fangs and leaping up, springing straight at her.
Jiang Tea Tea’s eyes narrowed. Her hand moved like lightning. She grabbed Chong Ming in one pull and shoved him in front of her, hiding behind his back: “You be careful too, Your Highness Chong Ming. The mutant tiger actually likes you more!”
