Chapter 042
Chapter 42: Revealing Divine Might
Cang Yin Yue stood alone among the constables, her dark eyebrows delicate as smoke. Her figure was solitary, face covered by a veil, hiding her true features. Yet, the gaze she directed at the man before her was openly mocking.
“Fu Yu, disbelief is simply disbelief. Have you pretended so long that you can no longer speak an honest word?”
Fu Yu’s gentle expression froze upon hearing this. His eyes narrowed slightly, and he was about to respond when Cang Yin Yue turned her attention past him, directly addressing Ji Fei Yun, who stood behind him.
“You,” she asked, “do you believe I’ve captured the remnant of Great Qi?”
Ji Fei Yun hesitated only briefly before shaking his head.
“Of course, I don’t.”
As soon as he spoke, his palm flipped, striking forward sharply. A powerful gust of wind rushed out, swiftly tearing away the tightly wrapped black cloth on the cart. In an instant, the four bodies lying there were exposed clearly to everyone’s view.
The constables gathered in front of Six Gates stared at the corpses, and soon cries of astonishment rang out.
“Elder Dead Face!”
“Limping Grass Glider!”
“This one must be… Red Rakshasa!”
“And this armored guard missing an arm… could he truly be the Great Qi remnant we’ve been hunting?”
At this moment, Ji Fei Yun himself stood frozen, his pale face shifting between expressions of shock and uncertainty.
Gong Li Shan, who had been standing beside him, quickly stepped forward and carefully examined the four bodies. After a moment, he drew in a deep breath and turned to face Fu Yu, nodding solemnly.
“I’ve confirmed it. This indeed seems to be the Great Qi fugitive. I’ve seen him before, and the injury on his severed arm matches exactly the wound inflicted by the ‘Shadow Cloud Splitting Sword’ used by the expert from the Great Li Imperial Palace.”
His gaze swept over the other three corpses.
“These three are also criminals wanted by Six Gates. You should recognize them; they are closely linked to the case you’ve been investigating. But now, they’re all dead.”
As he spoke, Gong Li Shan’s eyes fell on the thin, darkened lines of blood across each of the corpses’ necks—the real cause of their deaths.
Fu Yu stood silently, revealing no emotion, as if the air around them had begun to harden. Nearby, Cang Yin Yue crossed her arms, calmly observing the constables, whose faces showed shock, disbelief, and admiration.
Right now, this feeling was even more satisfying than when Guan Shan Xue had made his show of power. No wonder Li Mu Sheng once lamented to her, “If someone cultivates great martial skills but never shows them off, then what is the point?”
Now, she truly understood. Having captured criminals that even Six Gates and the Heavenly Brocade Guard could not handle, naturally she should display this divine feat before everyone. How could she waste such a perfect opportunity?
“Constable Cang, how did you manage this?” Gong Li Shan finally broke the silence, turning to her with a question.
At these words, Fu Yu also slowly turned his head toward Cang Yin Yue. All the constables, including Ji Fei Yun, simultaneously fixed their gaze upon her.
Cang Yin Yue shook her head without explanation, simply coldly mocking Fu Yu.
“What you people cannot achieve, naturally someone else can. In any case, I’ve brought you the people you wanted. Credit must be recorded accurately under my name.”
After speaking, she glanced around briefly among the constables. Just then, the constable guarding the gate hurried over with a middle-aged man dressed in white, calling out urgently, “Constable Cang, I’ve brought the Merit Registrar as you requested.”
Cang Yin Yue nodded slightly, turning to leave. However, after a few steps, she suddenly stopped again.
“Oh, right. One more thing.”
Cang Yin Yue turned her head back toward Fu Yu, her voice icy.
“Remember, I, Cang Yin Yue, do not acknowledge any engagement between us. I hope you’ll stop telling people that I am your fiancée.”
With that, she turned away decisively, walking into Six Gates without looking back, swiftly disappearing from sight.
The matter concerning Qing Shan House was of great importance; she must report directly to the Divine Constable herself.
Meanwhile, having heard Cang Yin Yue’s announcement, the constables stood stunned, their mouths agape with surprise. They glanced at her disappearing figure, then cautiously toward Fu Yu, who had remained silent throughout. Fu Yu, usually composed and steady, now wore a visibly displeased expression.
“Brother Fu,” Ji Fei Yun quietly reminded him.
Fu Yu slowly closed his eyes, opening them again calmly a moment later. He shook his head, speaking in a low voice, “It’s nothing. Yin Yue is probably just angry I didn’t trust her earlier. I’ll explain to her later.”
After briefly glancing at the four bodies, he exchanged a meaningful glance with Gong Li Shan, then ignored the surrounding constables, turning to depart.
Not long after, in Fu Yu’s quarters, Gong Li Shan entered from outside.
“What did you find?” Fu Yu’s voice was cold, Ji Fei Yun standing beside him, waiting attentively.
“Elder Dead Face had every bone shattered and internal organs crushed, having suffered an extremely powerful attack. Red Rakshasa’s skull was completely shattered. These two had already lost their ability to fight before Constable Cang killed them,” Gong Li Shan slowly explained, furrowing his brow as he continued.
“But Limping Grass Glider and the Great Qi fugitive didn’t seem to have fatal injuries beforehand. They indeed died by Constable Cang’s hand. Also, before killing the fugitive, she appears to have interrogated him.”
Upon hearing this, Fu Yu pondered deeply.
“She surely had help, someone extremely powerful. Judging from what we know, they must be at least a half-step Great Martial Grandmaster—or possibly a full-fledged one.”
His eyes narrowed slightly, and he turned to Ji Fei Yun.
“Inform Marquis Cang Yuan’s mansion about today’s events. Also, investigate whether any strangers appeared around Cang Yin Yue during her recent outings. I want to know every detail related to this.”
Ji Fei Yun nodded gently, then suddenly remembered something.
“I did see someone unusual around her recently.”
He immediately recounted every detail of seeing Li Mu Sheng at the tavern and Aurora Pavilion.
Fu Yu’s expression remained indifferent, his eyes revealing nothing.
“Interesting. She’s becoming increasingly fascinating, even bringing back someone claiming to be the Seventh Prince?”
Ji Fei Yun shook his head.
“With Cang Yin Yue’s hideous appearance, Brother Fu honoring her with your attention is her lifelong fortune. Yet she dares behave so arrogantly.”
At these words, Fu Yu cast him a sharp, icy glance. Ji Fei Yun quickly lowered his head.
“I spoke rashly.”
Fu Yu withdrew his gaze, waving dismissively.
“Do as I instructed. Investigate that person’s identity thoroughly. I’ll handle the rest myself.”
