Chapter 26: Targeted
Seeing who had arrived, Cang Yin Yue calmly clasped her hands together and greeted politely, “Greetings, Constable Ji. I’ve just returned from handling a case and happened to meet with a friend here.”
Upon hearing her words, Ji Fei Yun glanced at Li Mu Sheng, eyes slightly narrowed. “I’ve gotten used to coming through the window. I hope I didn’t disturb you?”
Cang Yin Yue slowly shook her head and pointed toward the wooden wall beside her. “I presume Constable Ji came looking for Guan Shan Xue. She’s right next door.”
Ji Fei Yun sighed softly and lowered his voice, “That Eldest Young Lady always stirs up trouble whenever she comes to Shang Yang City. And she particularly loves picking fights with me. Honestly, if not for the Divine Constable shielding her, I wouldn’t even spare her a glance.”
Cang Yin Yue smiled faintly, “Constable Ji, you don’t understand a woman’s heart. Her constant targeting might just mean she has taken a liking to you.”
Ji Fei Yun chuckled lightly and shook his head, “It’s not me she’s interested in. Someone else has caught her eye.”
Just then, a blade-sharp stream of icy Qi tore horizontally through the wooden wall, rushing fiercely toward the three in the room. Guan Shan Xue’s frosty voice echoed from next door, “Ji Fei Yun, since you’re already here, hurry up and get yourself over here.”
“Careful!” Ji Fei Yun swiftly stepped forward, thrusting his palms out. Powerful Qi surged into a gale-like wind, shielding Cang Yin Yue. The icy strike collided with the raging wind, both energies dissipating. The shockwave flung nearby tables and chairs upward, shattering them mid-air.
“Guan Shan Xue, you’ve truly gone too far this time,” Ji Fei Yun’s voice deepened as he retracted his Qi, slowly drawing back his jade-like glowing palms.
But as his peripheral gaze landed on Li Mu Sheng behind him, Ji Fei Yun’s eyes narrowed subtly. Li Mu Sheng now stood in a clearly different spot from before. [When exactly did he move? I didn’t even notice.]
At that moment, Guan Shan Xue, dressed in snow-white robes, tapped her foot lightly and gracefully leaped through the broken wall, entering Ji Fei Yun’s room. Her beautiful, icy face revealed a scornful expression as she coldly remarked, “When did your Six Gates become lapdogs for the Fifth Prince?”
Ji Fei Yun quietly withdrew his glance from Li Mu Sheng and frowned. “Shan Xue, what do you mean by that?”
With a cold snort, Guan Shan Xue shifted her gaze toward the next room, where three figures from Province Chuan lay frozen by her icy Qi. “These three belong to your Six Gates, right?”
“Indeed.” Ji Fei Yun nodded, briefly glancing at the trio. “But why attack them? If they disturbed you, I can apologize on their behalf.”
A cold sneer crossed Guan Shan Xue’s lips. “They’ve secretly followed this spoiled brat all along, aiming to find evidence against him. They plan to use that as leverage to pressure the Vice Minister of Revenue, forcing him to abandon the Seventh Prince and support the Fifth Prince. I personally overheard their conversation, and they were clearly doing just that. What excuses will you give this time?”
Ji Fei Yun’s expression changed, scanning the surroundings cautiously before whispering, “Guan Shan Xue, watch your words carefully in such a place. Even the Divine Constable might not be able to protect you otherwise.”
“Ji Fei Yun, do you think I’m lying?” Anger flashed through Guan Shan Xue’s eyes. As she prepared to strike again, Ji Fei Yun swiftly pressed her wrist down with his scabbard, whispering urgently, “No matter what you heard, this isn’t the place to speak openly. I know you’ve always admired that false prince, but times have changed. If you don’t wish the Divine Constable imprisoned, I advise you to stop right now!”
Ji Fei Yun withdrew his scabbard slowly. Guan Shan Xue opened her mouth slightly, but her delicate brows soon knitted together. Frustration and helplessness marred her lovely face, and she remained silent.
Seeing her quiet down, Ji Fei Yun visibly relaxed. Turning to Cang Yin Yue, he spoke gently, “Constable Cang, please keep today’s events secret.”
Cang Yin Yue’s gaze darkened slightly as she nodded. “Constable Ji, have you forgotten who I am? As part of Six Gates, I naturally understand discretion.”
Ji Fei Yun inclined his head briefly, then shifted his gaze toward Li Mu Sheng. Cang Yin Yue quickly reassured him, “Rest assured, Constable Ji. This matter involves the Fifth Prince and Six Gates. My friend understands the importance and will keep today’s events strictly to himself.”
Ji Fei Yun paused thoughtfully, looking over Li Mu Sheng before advising, “Your Excellency doesn’t seem to be from the Imperial Capital. Listening to Constable Cang would be wise.”
Having said that, Ji Fei Yun moved to the adjacent room, channeling his Qi through his palm. With a gentle push, spring-like warmth dispelled the icy Qi from Province Chuan’s three men, swiftly returning them to normal.
The trio sighed in relief, moving stiff limbs toward Ji Fei Yun. Before they could speak, he held up a hand to silence them.
Just then, another constable hurriedly approached, urgently reporting, “Vice Minister Gao Chang Rui from the Ministry of Revenue is heading this way with his entourage, arriving downstairs at any moment.”
Ji Fei Yun glanced back at Zhang He cowering in the corner and waved, signaling Province Chuan and the others to leave. He then returned to the room with Li Mu Sheng and the others.
“Will you return with me to the Six Gates General Yamen?” Ji Fei Yun asked Guan Shan Xue. Seeing her remain coldly silent, he shook his head, cautioning once more, “Stop causing trouble, or even the Divine Constable won’t shield you.”
He turned toward the window but paused, looking back meaningfully at Cang Yin Yue. “During your absence, Constable Fu has worried about you greatly. Return early to ease his heart.”
With that, Ji Fei Yun disappeared out the window.
…
At that moment, Li Mu Sheng turned curiously to Cang Yin Yue, asking, “Who is Constable Fu? Your father or your mother?”
Cang Yin Yue shot him a cold glance, replying calmly, “My fiancé.”
Li Mu Sheng raised an eyebrow. Nearby, Guan Shan Xue’s gaze lingered mockingly on Li Mu Sheng’s handsome face. She suddenly laughed coldly, “You already have a fiancé yet still flirt with handsome pretty boys. Cang Yin Yue, you truly have no shame.”
Hearing this, murderous intent flashed through Cang Yin Yue’s eyes as her hand reached swiftly toward her waist. Midway, however, she paused, coldly remarking, “I won’t lower myself to your level.”
She then gestured to Li Mu Sheng, “Let’s go.”
Yet just at this moment, icy Qi formed at Guan Shan Xue’s fingertips as she swiftly struck toward Cang Yin Yue. However, Guan Shan Xue was startled to find her body suddenly restrained, Qi sealed, completely immobilized.
[What…? Since when did Cang Yin Yue become this powerful?]
