Chapter 006
Chapter 6: Elder Sister is the Original Heroine
Madam Yun called gently: “Ye’er, Yao’er, come quickly and look at your little sister.”
Though she still did not know where the little milk bun had come from, she was certain of one thing, the child knew more than she let on. She seemed to understand the fate of everyone in the family. That made her invaluable.
The twins approached at once. Yun Wan Yao scooped up Yun Wan Ning without hesitation, eyes sparkling as she kissed her soft cheeks and cooed: “Oh my goodness, she is too adorable. Like a little jade doll, her skin so soft and creamy, she even smells sweet. Just like a freshly steamed dumpling. I could gobble her up.”
Yun Wan Ning froze as a barrage of kisses left her stunned.
“Look at that little face,” Yun Wan Yao giggled as she kissed her twice more: “It is hilarious. I have never seen a newborn with such vivid expressions.”
Madam Yun watched her daughters with tender affection. Her smile was gentle, the scene warming her heart like spring light on snow.
“That is enough, Yun Wan Yao,” Yun Wan Ye grumbled with crossed arms: “You are getting spit all over Little Fourth’s face.”
His tone was sharp, but his heart was sour with envy. She had stolen all the kisses, and he had not even gotten to hug their baby sister.
[Exactly. Elder Sister ambushed me. That is not fair.]
[But she did call me cute, and praised my soft skin. Fine, fine. It is just a few kisses. I am the one benefitting anyway.]
[Elder Sister was the original heroine after all, beautiful, gentle, and fragrant. I definitely like her.]
Yun Wan Yao’s brow arched as her lips curled with a soft smile. She had heard it. She could hear her little sister’s thoughts. She even heard the praise. What a lovable baby.
But why could she hear. That puzzled her. At the same time, Yun Wan Ye frowned. He could hear the thoughts too. And she had only said she liked Yun Wan Yao. What about him. Was he not worthy of her affection.
[Seriously, what was this trash author thinking. Elder Sister is beautiful, noble-born, and kind-hearted. She should have been the true protagonist. Why force her into the villainess role just to elevate the transmigrated heroine.]
[I have to grow up faster. Once I can speak, I will remind Elder Sister not to fight the heroine. The heroine has plot armor from the heavens, she is the author’s precious daughter. No one can beat her.]
[All who go against her die miserably. But none suffer more than Elder Sister, the number-one villainess.]
[It is tragic. A girl born of glory, betrayed by a heroine’s admirer, sold off to a remote village, forced to give birth to one child after another, tortured until she goes mad, and in the end, beaten to death.]
[No, no. I have to save her. I cannot let her follow that path.]
[Fighting off kidnappers starts with me. Right. From today on, I am drinking more milk.]
[Oh no. I think I just pooped.]
[I am finished. Elder Sister is holding me and I did something so shameful. What if she is disgusted with me now.]
Everyone had fallen into the grim future the baby described. As her thoughts painted a fate too cruel to imagine, their faces turned pale. No one noticed her sudden swing to embarrassment except Madam Yun.
Ever since Yang Xin’er’s treachery was exposed, Madam Yun trusted every word from her daughter’s heart. It was not guessing any longer. It was prophecy.
Would her Yao’er really be dragged into such horror. No. That future must be stopped.
Had the plot not already changed. Little Fourth had wondered aloud, why did the plot collapse. Yang Xin’er’s downfall proved the narrative was not set in stone. It could be broken.
So Yao’er’s fate could also be rewritten. It must be. It had all started because she, Madam Yun, had taken her own life. That act had set her husband on the path to ruin. But now, no matter what happened, she would never again choose death. As long as she lived, she would protect her husband and children from such tragedy.
“Waaaah.”
Yun Wan Ning finally burst into tears. The mournful atmosphere shattered. “What is that awful smell,” Yun Wan Ye fanned his nose first, though worry still churned in his chest. Could Elder Sister’s fate really turn so cruel. No. He would not allow it. So long as he drew breath, no one would harm her, not even a heroine sent from the heavens.
[Boo-hoo, Second Brother, can you not say it out loud. I am already mortified.]
[I am still small, okay. I cannot control my eating, or pooping, or anything. But once I grow up, I will handle it.]
Yun Wan Ning burned with embarrassment. If she could, she would bury herself in the blanket.
“What smell,” Yun Wan Yao huffed with a roll of her eyes: “Maybe your nose is broken.”
She turned away, choosing to forget her sister’s adorable panic and glare at Yun Wan Ye instead. He was clearly making it worse.
“Give Little Fourth to me. She must be hungry or needs changing. Let me look,” Madam Yun said as she came with a soft smile and reached for the child.
Realizing her shame would be revealed, Yun Wan Ning squeezed her eyes shut and prayed to vanish.
[I want to die. Elder Sister, Second Brother, please stop staring. Especially you, Second Brother. Do you not understand the difference between boys and girls. Close your eyes. Close them now.]
Madam Yun’s hands paused, but she kept her expression calm and moved naturally as she undid the swaddle. Then she lifted her head and spoke with perfect ease: “Oh, that reminds me, Ye’er, Yao’er, you just returned and have not eaten. Go to the kitchen and find Uncle Zhou. Tell him what you would like.”
She looked at her husband with a nod: “Husband, Little Fourth needs feeding. Please call the wet nurse.”
