Chapter 514
Chapter 514: I Don’t Want to Study! I Want to Fight!
“Senior Ling Long, are you sure this will really work?”
Yu Zhao tugged uneasily at the bright red frilly dress she was wearing. Even her voice sounded unsure.
Senior Ling Long was full of confidence: “The Beastkin are indeed wary of outsiders, but they are especially gentle with younglings. After they see you, they should lower their guard toward us.”
After she finished, she added: “If it really does not work, I will just take you and leave.”
Yu Zhao nodded and flew on with Senior Ling Long toward the greenest area on the small planet.
Before they even got close to that lush region, several strong auras rose up from the ground and surrounded Senior Ling Long and Yu Zhao.
At the front was a tall figure, a Giant Spirit Bear beastman, his whole body covered in brown fur.
He stared at Senior Ling Long warily and said coldly: “This is Giant Spirit Bear territory. Outsiders are not welcome. Leave at once!”
Senior Ling Long smiled slightly: “I heard that the Giant Spirit Bear beastmen are skilled in forging. I came here especially to ask for guidance in your forging arts. If there is a chance, we are willing to trade some rare materials.”
“Our forging arts will not be passed to outsiders. You had better leave, quickly.”
The beastman’s expression did not soften at all. Instead, it grew even more unfriendly.
The other Beastkin also stepped forward, their heavy and fierce auras rolling out in all directions.
The battle will inside Senior Ling Long stirred restlessly, but when she remembered the purpose of this trip, she forced down the urge to fight and looked over at Yu Zhao.
“Your turn.”
Yu Zhao took a deep breath. She lifted the corners of her lips into a pure, innocent smile and called out in a crisp voice: “Hello, seniors. My name is Little Zhao. I came along with my elder sister on purpose to see more of the world. Elder sister is a good person, and I’m also a good person. Can you please not chase us away?”
After she said that, even she was disgusted by how sweet and sticky her own words sounded. A faint blush spread across her face.
But the Beastkin really did fall for this kind of act.
When they looked at Yu Zhao’s fair little face, tinged with pink, their expressions instantly softened, but they still did not give in.
Senior Ling Long stepped forward at just the right time and again promised that she had no ill will. She also said she was willing to pay a generous price.
The leading beastman hesitated for a long time. In the end, under Yu Zhao’s almost-about-to-cry expression, he finally agreed: “For her sake, I will give you a chance to meet the Chieftain. But if you dare play any tricks, do not blame us for being rude!”
Senior Ling Long and Yu Zhao both let out a sigh of relief. They had finally passed the first test.
Led by the Giant Spirit Bear beastmen, the two of them stepped onto their territory.
Along the way, Yu Zhao obediently followed beside Senior Ling Long. From time to time she looked around with wide, curious eyes, and she even chatted with the Beastkin next to her, asking some questions that sounded silly on purpose.
Her behavior slowly made the Beastkin put down their guard. A few of them even took out some of their special fruits to share with Yu Zhao.
Senior Ling Long thought to herself: [Looks like this move really was the right one.]
Before long, they arrived at the territory of the Giant Spirit Bear Clan.
“You wait here. I will go report to the Chieftain.”
Senior Ling Long nodded in thanks. After watching the Beastkin leave, she lowered her voice and said to Yu Zhao: “Next, it depends on whether our sincerity can move them.”
Yu Zhao blinked: “Senior, do you really plan to ask them for their forging techniques?”
“Of course. But more importantly, we have to use this chance to find out where Senior Bookworm is.”
“I understand.”
Just then, a figure even taller than the others came over, surrounded by a group of Beastkin. He wore a necklace made of beast bones around his thick neck and his upper body was bare.
His gaze swept over Yu Zhao first, then finally landed on Senior Ling Long: “You are the one who wants to trade with us?”
“Yes.”
Senior Ling Long waved her right hand, and a row of rare artifact forging materials appeared in front of everyone.
There was a burst of noise from behind the Chief of the Beastman Clan.
The Chieftain turned around and glared at them in anger. Then he faced Senior Ling Long again and said: “I have seen your sincerity. Sit and talk.”
“Thank you for your trust, Chieftain.”
Senior Ling Long thanked him, then led Yu Zhao as they followed the Chieftain into the stone house behind them.
Yu Zhao took the chance to look around again and noticed that all the Beastkin nearby were adults. There were none of the little Beastkin she had seen earlier in the mirror.
She tilted her head up, pretending to be naive, and asked the nearest Beastkin: “Senior, don’t you have any children here? Why haven’t I seen a single one?”
The Beastkin reached out and rubbed the small bun on her head, then laughed loudly: “Of course we do. Our Giant Spirit Bear Clan has lots of children, but they are all in school right now. It is class time, so you don’t see them. Before, the tribe would be very lively at this hour.”
School?
Yu Zhao’s heart moved.
“Can I go take a look?”
The Beastkin looked troubled and turned his eyes toward the Chieftain.
The Chieftain waved his big hand: “Take her.”
With the Chieftain’s permission, the Beastkin grinned even wider: “Come on, I’ll show you.”
Senior Ling Long gave Yu Zhao a look, telling her to be careful.
Yu Zhao gave a knowing nod, then followed the tall, gentle Beastkin away.
On the way, the Beastkin walked and kindly explained: “Recently our Chieftain invited a very powerful teacher from outside just to give classes to the children. Right now is class time, so you cannot see them. Before this, the tribe used to be very lively at this hour.”
Yu Zhao nodded obediently.
[Looks like we really did come to the right place. That teacher should be Senior Bookworm.]
Not long after, Yu Zhao heard the sound of children reading out loud coming from ahead. Mixed in with it was a heartbreaking sound of crying.
When the Beastkin heard the crying, his face changed and he sped up at once.
After only a few steps, he suddenly remembered that Yu Zhao was still behind him. He quickly scooped her into his arms and ran toward the school in big strides.
When they reached the school, Yu Zhao saw at a glance a man in a green robe crouching outside a tree house, speaking softly as he tried to comfort a little Beastkin with light golden fur.
The little Beastkin had his eyes shut tight and his hands pressed over his ears. He was wailing loudly and was not listening to the man at all.
Yu Zhao’s eyes lit up when she saw the man in green.
She had already seen a portrait of Senior Bookworm beforehand. The man in green looked exactly like the one in the portrait.
The Beastkin who was holding Yu Zhao squatted down in front of the little Beastkin, heart aching, and asked with concern: “Little Stone, what’s wrong? Why are you crying so hard?”
After he spoke, he shot a wary look at Senior Bookworm.
Senior Bookworm looked helpless: “I did not do anything. Halfway through class, he suddenly started crying. So he would not disturb the other children, I brought him out to talk alone.”
“Is that true, Little Stone?”
Little Stone was still bawling. The Beastkin’s patience only lasted a few breaths before it vanished.
He directly slapped the little Beastkin on the head.
Only then did the little Beastkin open his eyes to look at him, and then he cried even louder.
“Waaah! I don’t want to study! I don’t want to learn characters! I want to learn forging! I want to go fight!”
