Chapter 329
Chapter 329: Master makes so much sense!
The words were already out of his mouth. Ji Han Zhou had no intention of taking them back.
He had not expected Yu Zhao and Bu Yan to actually agree, but since they both nodded, he stopped hesitating. He drew his Flying Sword and leaped forward.
His toes had barely left the ground when Bu Yan grabbed his shoulder and shoved him back down.
“Junior Brother Ji, you are too impatient. Yu Zhao and I are not ready yet.”
“Ready for what?”
“Ready to make sure you don’t die too fast, of course.”
Ji Han Zhou fell silent.
So Ji Han Zhou could only stand there while Yu Zhao and Bu Yan fiddled with him for quite a while.
When they both finally drew their hands back, he looked down at himself and asked, “What did you put on me?”
Yu Zhao chuckled, “You will know once you are down there.”
Bu Yan was even more straightforward. He kicked Ji Han Zhou right on the backside and said, “Off you go!”
“Ah! Bu Yan! You damned bald donkey! I am going to kill you!”
Ji Han Zhou’s body shot into the air and then began to plummet.
The scenery on both sides flashed past his eyes. He tried to circulate his spirit power to slow his fall, but as soon as he did, his speed actually increased.
Frowning, Ji Han Zhou lifted his Flying Sword across his chest and stared downward.
He broke through the cloud layer, and the hidden scene below slowly came into view.
A field of blinding white was reflected in his eyes.
White bones, countless and chaotic, were piled layer upon layer. Some had already crumbled into dust and fragments under wind and sun. The harder skulls faced upward, their empty eye sockets filled with a despair so deep it seemed they were waiting for more of their kind to arrive.
Cold and dead.
Ji Han Zhou could not think of any better words than those to describe this Land of White Bones.
As the distance shrank, he could clearly see that the very top of the bone piles bristled with sharpened broken bones, like spears.
If he fell at this speed, even if he did not die, he would be pierced through till he looked like a sieve.
With a thought, he made the Flying Sword in his hands expand at high speed. In the blink of an eye, it was large enough to fully cover his body.
Ji Han Zhou had not even had time to breathe a sigh of relief when a humming sound rose from below.
Looking closely, he saw that the sharpened bones at the top of the piles were tearing free and shooting toward him with unstoppable force.
Whoosh, whoosh.
Sharp sounds of air being torn apart screamed up at him.
Ji Han Zhou gripped the hilt with his right hand and slashed sideways.
Sword Qi arced out like a rainbow.
In the air came the sound of collisions, like Jade Communication Stones smashing together.
Because he had circulated so much spirit power, his falling speed suddenly increased again.
Bang!
He crashed hard into a heap of bones. A rustling noise rose from beneath him as the bones scraped against each other.
“Huh?”
Ji Han Zhou stood up in surprise.
He had fallen from that height, but he did not feel any pain at all.
He quickly realized that it had to be whatever Yu Zhao and Bu Yan had placed on him taking effect.
Suddenly, a layer of shadow covered him from above.
He looked up, annoyed, “Again?”
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.
It was the same familiar sound of things cutting through the air.
This time, with nothing else to worry about, Ji Han Zhou went all out. Any bone spike that came near was smashed away by him.
But the one thing this Land of White Bones did not lack was broken bones.
Soon, Ji Han Zhou was surrounded by wave after wave of bone spikes.
By the time Yu Zhao and Bu Yan jumped down, Ji Han Zhou was almost buried in sharpened bones.
Yu Zhao swept out her divine sense, then flicked a finger and shot out a ray of spiritual light.
The light hit the stone walls on both sides. In an instant, it severed the glowing array patterns etched there. The smooth white bones immediately lost their luster and turned dull and gray.
Bu Yan threw his prayer beads into the air.
They floated above them and spilled down a gentle light.
The bones that had been filled with killing intent suddenly calmed. With a crashing sound, they fell back down, and Ji Han Zhou’s figure was revealed before them.
“Thanks.”
Ji Han Zhou adjusted his breathing as he spoke, his expression complicated as he thanked Bu Yan.
Bu Yan smiled slightly, “As long as Junior Brother Ji does not blame this poor monk for acting on his own.”
At that, Ji Han Zhou remembered how Bu Yan had kicked him off the cliff and his face turned dark.
He looked at Yu Zhao, his eyes full of expectation.
But Yu Zhao’s attention was already on the piles of bones. She did not spare him even a glance.
He let out a sad sigh, cleared his mind, and began examining the surroundings as well.
Yu Zhao picked up a small finger bone from the ground. She pressed her fingers together and lightly rubbed.
The bone instantly turned to powder and trickled from between her fingers.
She then picked up a few bones from different spots and tested them one by one. The result was the same.
She shook her head.
They had still come too late.
The spirit power inside these corpses had been drained completely. They had no more use, so they were thrown here.
The formation array arts laid beneath the cliff were clearly set up to keep this place from being discovered. It was a trapping and killing array on purpose.
If Ji Han Zhou had come here alone to investigate today, he would have stayed here forever, keeping the bones company.
Bu Yan walked over from another direction and shook his head at Yu Zhao.
“The formation array arts here are aimed not only at living cultivators, but also at the ghosts of the dead, so…”
“I understand.”
Yu Zhao’s eyes were deep.
Finding this Land of White Bones was already an unexpected gain.
And she now had a general direction in mind.
The people who had slaughtered everyone in Mystic Hero Hall were definitely tied to that mysterious organization.
Even if they were not members of it, they had at least been raised by that organization as heretic cultivators who specialized in all kinds of twisted and evil techniques.
They had one very obvious trait.
They did not rely on themselves. They always tried to raise their cultivation level through other methods, and their means were extremely bloody and cruel.
Beneath the seemingly peaceful Cultivation World, there was a huge, shadowy organization hiding.
For the first time, Yu Zhao felt a fierce longing to go home.
She could not wait to see Sect Master Ji Yuan and tell him everything she had seen and heard along the way.
“Bu Yan, Ji Han Zhou.”
The two who had been called looked at her at the same time.
“I suspect there is an evil organization moving in the dark, trying to destroy the peace of the Cultivation World. I am planning to return to Five Elements Dao Sect to report this to the Sect Master. What do you two plan to do?”
Ji Han Zhou’s heart sank.
He knew it was time to part again.
When something this big happened, he could not avoid reporting it to his own sect.
The fastest way was to stay at Black Tortoise Hall’s site and wait for the elders to arrive.
That meant he would soon be going his separate way from Senior Sister Yu.
While Ji Han Zhou was still feeling sad, Bu Yan had already answered.
“This poor monk will go with you to Five Elements Dao Sect.”
Ji Han Zhou protested, “Why are you not going back to Clarity Sound Temple?”
[This hateful bald donkey, he has no sense of responsibility at all!]
“This poor monk can send a message back to my temple. There is no need to go in person. Besides, this poor monk also wishes to visit Five Elements Dao Sect and meet Sect Master Ji Yuan. That way, the abbot can learn what others think as well.”
Ji Han Zhou froze.
[The bald donkey… no, Master makes so much sense!]
He suddenly understood.
It felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head, waking him up at once.
“Senior Sister Yu, I will go with you to Five Elements Dao Sect too!”
“Alright.”
Yu Zhao picked a few bones from the pile and stored them separately in her spatial storage. Then she set off for Five Elements Dao Sect with Ji Han Zhou and Bu Yan.
She had been away from her sect for many days.
At last, she was on her way home.
