Chapter 271
Chapter 271: You Better Behave
The mountain range stretched on like a swimming dragon. From time to time, the roar of beasts echoed out, startling flocks of birds into the sky.
At the front of the group, Xiao You did not even lift its head. Its nose twitched as it sniffed the air. Every now and then, it stopped to think, its round fox eyes focused and serious.
A little fox behind could not help calling softly: “Xiao You…”
Yu Zhao raised a hand to her lips and whispered: “Shh.”
The little fox who had spoken quickly covered its mouth. Its two small tails swished nervously behind it.
The other little foxes also did not dare to disturb Xiao You. They waited quietly until it found the direction again, then started chattering noisily once more.
They walked and stopped like this for three whole days.
On this day, a heaven-shaking roar suddenly came from far away, like a dragon lifting its head. The whole mountain range trembled.
Yu Zhao looked toward the sound and could faintly see dust rising in the distance.
Xiao You leaped onto Yu Zhao’s shoulder. It stood on tiptoe and stared into the distance, muttering about how strange it was that Demonic Beasts would start fighting here.
There was no strict rule that said you could not fight inside the Dragon Pool Mountains, but very few Demonic Beasts would break this unwritten rule.
Because this was seen as provoking the entire race. No Demonic Beast dared to do that.
The distance was too far. After watching for a moment, Yu Zhao was about to pull back her gaze when she suddenly saw more than ten streaks of light appear in front of her, lined up in a row and flying straight toward her.
Yu Zhao’s face changed. She murmured in her heart: [Not good. Nascent Soul Old Fiends.]
And they were headed right in her direction.
Yu Zhao swept her right hand forward. Her Spirit Power turned into vertical ropes that tied around the waists of all the little foxes.
Then she tapped her toes and pushed her body backward toward the left side.
The little foxes were pulled along by the great force.
Even though Yu Zhao reacted as fast as she could, she still caught the attention of that group of Nascent Soul Old Fiends.
A purple-robed man laughed with delight and shouted: “They are Nine-Tailed Fox Cubs! I will go catch them!”
Another man called out at once: “Old Xie, I will go with you!”
A third added loudly: “Me too!”
The purple-robed man grinned and said: “Great. Let’s go together and catch a few more younglings.”
An old crone in the group reminded them in a harsh voice: “Make it quick. Those Demonic Beasts are already chasing us!”
Old Xie waved his hand and said: “Relax. With Wu Ying Zi and Tou Tuo helping me, we will finish this soon.”
Right after he spoke, three figures shot out from the team and flew straight toward Yu Zhao.
Xiao You dug its claws into Yu Zhao’s robe and cried anxiously: “Yu Zhao, three of them are coming after us!”
It was so tense that its sharp claws almost tore through the cloth and into the flesh of Yu Zhao’s shoulder.
Yu Zhao did not say a word. She pushed her Spirit Power almost to the limit.
But the distance between her and Old Xie’s group kept getting smaller.
Among people of her age, Yu Zhao almost had no match. Yet when she faced cultivators in the Nascent Soul Stage like Old Xie and the other two, she could not help falling into a disadvantage.
It was not because her talent was lacking, but because she had cultivated for too short a time.
Given enough time, things would surely be different.
But right now, Yu Zhao was in huge trouble.
Old Xie stared at her with a lewd gaze and laughed: “They say the Fox Clan grows beauties. It really is true.”
The other two cultivators, both covered in killing intent, nodded again and again. Their eyes boldly roamed over Yu Zhao’s body as they burst into wild laughter.
The little foxes could tell they meant harm. They bared their teeth and yelled in anger.
Yu Zhao’s face stayed calm. She gripped the rope in her right hand and gave it a hard yank, pulling the little foxes behind her. At the same time, she raised her left hand and summoned the Mirror of Fleeting Lives.
The black mirror surface glinted with a faint ghostly light under the sun.
Old Xie and the other two suddenly felt the world go dark. Their steps faltered for a moment.
Wu Ying Zi and Tou Tuo recovered first. They sensed nothing strange and, without thinking, kept charging forward.
After they chased for dozens of miles, they finally noticed that Old Xie was still standing in the same place with his head down. They stopped and shouted: “Old Xie! What are you standing there for? Hurry up and chase them!”
Old Xie slowly raised his head. Under their confused stares, he gave them a twisted grin. Then he reached behind his back and pulled out a huge crescent-shaped scythe.
Old Xie let out a roar: “All of you can die!”
The silver blade sliced through the air, shining with a blinding white light.
The sharp blade light howled toward them with an ear-piercing sound.
Clang!
Boom!
Two different impact sounds rang out together.
Wu Ying Zi and Tou Tuo were blasted back hundreds of miles. Their blood and qi were in chaos.
They were furious and shocked. If they had not reacted so fast, they would either be dead or seriously crippled.
And where were they?
The Dragon Pool Mountains.
The gathering place of the Demon Race.
If they were wounded here, they would basically be as good as dead.
They forced down the clotted blood in their chests and cursed: “Old Xie! Are you insane?”
What greeted them was only another wave of blade light, falling like a raging storm.
Wu Ying Zi roared: “Old Xie! I will skin you alive!”
Tou Tuo shouted: “Wu Ying Zi, let’s take him together!”
“Fine!”
The clash of three Nascent Soul Cultivators stirred up sand and rocks. The sky seemed to darken as their battle raged.
Yu Zhao had already fled thousands of miles away, but she could still feel the restless energy waves in the air.
She let out a small breath of relief. Just as she was glad she had led the little foxes out of danger, her expression suddenly hardened.
At the end of one of the ropes, there was nothing.
Yu Zhao clearly remembered that a little fox named Ah Chun had been tied there.
She spun around at once.
Her gaze seemed to pierce mountains and rivers and landed on the hand of a white-haired old crone.
In that withered hand was a chubby two-tailed fox, crying and struggling. It kept calling out Yu Zhao’s and Xiao You’s names.
“Damn it,” Yu Zhao cursed under her breath. She was just about to turn back and rescue Ah Chun when she saw the group of frightened little foxes still clumped together behind her. She did not feel safe leaving them alone.
A voice said loudly: “You all stay here and do not move. Yu Zhao and I will go save Ah Chun.”
Yu Zhao looked in surprise at Xiao You, who was standing on her shoulder.
At a moment like this, Xiao You was even more decisive than she was.
Although it was clear that all the little foxes were very tense, they still quickly voiced their support after hearing Xiao You.
One little fox said anxiously: “Ah Chun is the most timid. Xiao You, you must bring it back.”
Another pleaded: “Yu Zhao, we are counting on you to save Ah Chun.”
A third added: “We will be fine. You two hurry and go!”
Xiao You’s face was serious as it said: “Yu Zhao, Ah Chun is our partner. We cannot abandon it.”
Yu Zhao nodded and answered: “I know.”
She reached up to rub Xiao You’s head, then suddenly pinched the back of its neck and tossed it forward.
Yu Zhao said calmly: “You watch them. I am going to save Ah Chun.”
Xiao You had thought she was talking to it just now. It stared dumbly at Yu Zhao’s back as she flew away.
At that moment, a hot breath blew onto the top of its head.
The fur on the back of its neck was yanked again.
Xiao You craned its small head up and saw who it was. Its beast eyes went wide as it shouted: “Hua Tu? It is you! Let go of me!”
Hua Tu set Xiao You down on the ground, then raised a paw and rubbed hard on its head.
Hua Tu snorted and said: “You think I wanted to catch you? That fox girl threw you at me and made me take care of you all. You better behave.”
On the way here, Hua Tu had heard the noise and rushed over. From the mouths of other Demonic Beasts, it had learned what had happened.
Some Human Race cultivators had somehow found out that they were moving inside the Dragon Pool Mountains. When all the Demonic Beasts were scattered and looking for something, those cultivators suddenly attacked and grabbed dozens of Demon Beast Cubs in one go. Now they were trying to escape.
Hua Tu was furious and had chased them all the way here. Just as it arrived, Yu Zhao spotted it, and it was forced to take on the job of looking after the little foxes.
