Chapter 2 “First Mission Part 2”

In this moment, whatever scientific and materialistic education Dawn received from childhood to adult had been swept away. There’s nothing but repentance in his churning stomach as he scolded himself for being so stupid and acting so hastily. He could’ve at least brought a knife or something for real! Regardless of the knife being helpful or not, he could at least put up a fight if he had one!
Regret did not help him in this situation though. Calming down a bit as he pants in urgency, he quickly grabbed the nearest stick of wood he saw. It’s already decayed and likely snap at first impact. Nevertheless, something was better than nothing. He had no signal on his cellphone, no reaction from the pendant, and even if he wanted to call for help, who’s going to come?
I’m so screwed….
Tick…
In the incomparably silent darkness, the sound of blood droplets dripping down to the ground was particularly noticeable. This was true as well to the ever-dimming flashlight illuminating the only solace of safety in this pitch-black hole. He couldn’t understand why, but Dawn felt like he was being watched by countless ghosts from all directions right now. They want to swallow him and eat him….
“Calm! Don’t panic!” He kept reminding himself this so he doesn’t succumb to fear before things hit the fan: “If it was a ghost that wanted to kill me, they would’ve done so already. There’s no reason that it’s only scaring me… there must be a reason!”
Gulping to gather his courage, Dawn did not retreat and slowly inched forward at the cabinet. The speed of the blood dripping down seems to increase with his movement; nevertheless, he couldn’t back down now. Raising the rotted wooden stick in his hand, he steels his nerve and swings it down after popping the door open.
Preemptive strike! Aren’t you scaring me? I like to see who’s going to come out of this alive!
However, under the extreme nervous tension of the moment, Dawn ended up screwing up…. Reason? Instead of hitting whatever was inside, he actually smashed the cabinet door when he tried to pop it open, which directly snapped his wooden stick in half. Horrified and beyond help, the guy did what any frightened animal would do – point the flashlight inside to find what’s there.
That was a mistake – a huge and stupid mistake on his part. Sitting in a fetal position was a human-shaped creature. Bloodied and skinless, the thing was staring right back at him with eyes of death that showed there’s hell to be paid for the transgression. Worst of all, the disgusting and grotesque features didn’t end there. Aside from the viscous goop dripping down the bleeding flesh, there’s also white tiny worms crawling around those pumping veins.
“HOLY SHIT!!”
No matter how prepared Dawn was to begin with, there’s nothing that could save his soul from the terror pouring out of his heart. He nearly peed himself while screaming at the highest pitch he’s ever mustered in the confusion.
“Meow!”
Just as the poor guy was about to collapse and faint, a sudden and out-of-place sound resonated from behind him. Though the cat sound wasn’t loud by any stretch, but the voice carried some kind of magic and instantly calmed Dawn down.
Twitching in the mouth now at the emotional rollercoaster he had just experienced, Dawn found his ass constipated and hurting in the physical and unphysical form.
Then as the surrounding area quieted down again and he could take a second to gather his wits, Dawn noticed something. Instead of the bloodied human creature sitting inside the cabinet, there’s something else—specifically, a white hamster standing on two feet staring right back at him with a confused face.
