Taking advantage of the fact that Boink did not “work” today, the three of them had once again gathered together to discuss the mysterious pendant.
“I have something to discuss with the both of you.” He intends to get their opinion on the pendant. After all, they are a better judge of whether it was good or evil than himself. As to whether they want to sign the Arbiter’s invitation note, that’s their choice and theirs alone. Dawn had no intention of forcing it upon them.
“What’s the matter?”
Both tenants spoke in unison, then glanced at each other like they got a bone to pick with each other for being so timely.
“Actually, here’s the thing….”
Dawn took out the Arbiter’s invitation letter and informed the two of what had happened to him in the past few days, including the mysterious pendant’s ability.
Speaking of which, the whole invitation note was red all over like a red pocket given out during weddings and New Year. Simply said, it’s giving off the whole celebration vibe.
The cat lady didn’t doubt the story. Getting locked inside for a century was enough to tell her it was not an average item. However, Boink the hamster was a bit more skeptical and confused. After flipping the invitation note over and over to analyze the words, he still couldn’t get a proper grasp.
Shadow asked, “Landlord, what you mean is for us to sign this invitation note? This will let us become a team?”
Dawn replied frankly, “No, I’m not asking or demanding you to sign it. This is yours and Boink’s decision because I can’t determine what the intention of this pendant wants. In any case, I can’t be certain if its not a demon’s contract or some sort along those lines. It might end up harming you both so I just want to make things clear.”
The cat lady lightly nods in understanding while not revealing her inner thoughts. Then without a word, she snatched the note from Boink, who was still flipping it around, and tore off a corner while under everyone’s watch.
“Big Cat! This is the Landlord’s property, why are you tearing it up?” Boink grew furious at the rudeness and condemned the lady.
“You idiot, keep your mouth shut if your brain’s capacity is the size of a walnut. Take a closer look.” Shadow doesn’t back down and points at the torn corner.
In that moment after she said that, something magical occurred and the torn fragment re-glued itself together into the invitation note. There’s no seem or anything left. It’s like nothing happened.
This knocked both Dawn and Boink off their feet because they didn’t expect this at all.
Grinning from ear to ear at having one-upped both the male of the house, Shadow went all in this time and ripped the entire invitation to shreds. For the next few seconds, a confetti of red paper floated all over the house like snowflakes in a winter day.
Without surprise, the shreds quickly reattached themselves together like predicted. However, instead of staying quiet, the invitation note suspended itself into the air and released a series of arcing lightning bolts. Then with a “pop,” the catling’s silky long hair suddenly turned into a mushroom head before Dawn’s eye.
“Are you injured?”
Looking at her black smokey face and collapsed body on the sofa, Dawn immediately turned and ran for the medical kit inside his room.
“It’s nothing….” The catling burps out black smoke after saying that and appears all numb and twitchy, “just let me catch my breath.”
