That brought a grin to Dawn’s face. How could he not be happy? Back when he bought the home theatre system during a sale, the guy had intended to make a big deal out of it with his tenants to get them to socialize in the public area. Sadly, technology always moved fast. Before he could get the idea into action, things had already moved to the point of outdating the setup with streaming services and OLED screens.
Meanwhile back in the living room, the cat lady was currently holding a carton of milk and watching the trailer to Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils on TV.
“What kind of spell is that? Are humans so powerful too?” She sensed Dawn’s arrival and immediately asked after witnessing the fictional Kungfu’s in the clips.
Human beings were already known for their large numbers. Then before I fell asleep, they had lethal weapons such as musket cannons, and now they are equipped with these powerful skills? What room is there left for us monsters?
During her moment of shock, the trailer had been replaced by the science fiction film Resident Evil. This part showcased the dramatic effect of a nuclear warhead exploding, which scared the daylights out of the cat lady who dropped her carton of milk without realizing it. She’s just too gobsmacked by the massive damage produced on-screen and was genuinely stunned.
“Humans nowadays are so ferocious….” She mutters to herself while leaning in against the couch like a scared kitty cat.
“Wait! That’s fake! Don’t believe it!” Dawn quickly rushed up to explain due to how awry the situation was spiraling. He’s honestly afraid the lady would twist her world view beyond help at this rate.
“But I’ve seen it all already….”
“Oh shit!” Dawn felt a headache coming after that remark, “This is a movie and tv series. Those things you saw were all done with special effects to retell imaginary stories. Take that previous picture you saw earlier. It’s a drama about kungfu, nothing about it is real. Think of it as entertainment like how they used to do operas in the old days!”
Ruffling up his hair in a frantic manner, “In short, human beings are not so terrible. The main thing you need to look out for is distinguishing what’s fake and what’s real, okay?”
“Then tell me, that person from the previous trailer capable of emitting a dragon-shaped shadow is real or fake?” Shadow asks with skeptical eyes.
“Fake! It was made into a TV show based on a novel!”
The cat lady’s expression eased up so slightly but continued to draw up her own conclusions: “Then what about that big explosion? The one that’s innumerable times more powerful than the artillery cannons I’ve seen before….. The one making the mushroom clouds.”
“Fake! Fa… Ehhh~” Dawn blurted out the first word in his head but quickly realized the nuclear explosion wasn’t exactly fake. Hydrogen bombs of that scale do exist so saying otherwise would be wrong on his part. “Real, nuclear explosions are real.”
“So is it real or fake?” Shadow presses the issue anxiously.
Frantically working his pea brain to patch up the mess, Dawn continues to flail his arms around like a lost child: “Nuclear explosions do exist, but it’s not as exaggerated as the stuff on TV. Also, that stuff is considered a restricted-grade weapon. Unless it’s to the point of extinction-level crisis, no country would ever try to use it on one another.”
“… Humans are still terrible.” Shadow couldn’t help but recall back to a hundred years ago where humans weren’t as powerful as today. They could hardly pose a threat to monster kind and even worshipped their species as gods further back in time. But now….
For the first time ever, the catling was worried about the future of her brethren.
